I do enjoy SLM's look at museum ships, because it's not just another historian, it's an ordinary enthusiast like the rest of us (That IS a compliment, I promise!). Between the fresh paint, new decking, the weather and the Mobile Bay location, Alabama looks absolutely stunning. She's definitely a ship that gets a lot of passionate TLC from the curators. The USS Drum might be a good ship to do a video on; sometimes the smaller, less headline exhibits can get forgotten when there's a big headline piece, and yet Drum seems to have had a pretty eventful career.

I went to see her in the mid to late 90's. She seems to be much better cared for now. The USS Drum was nearby, but closed for some reason. What struck me about the Alabama was that it is so huge on the outside and so cramped inside.

That was the challenge of the South Dakota class, they could finally slap the armor and armament they wanted onto the class but congress still wanted to stay around 36,000 tons

Sea Lord, I live in Slidell, Louisiana! Hey fellow LA native! But, I've been on the Mighty 'A' twice. Once, back in 2014, as a Cub Scout, where I slept on her triple bunks just like the sailors that once served on her did! The second time was actually December 4, 2021 and I knew infinitely more knowledge of all her components because I play the console version of WoWs. Both times were very fun and I highly recommend any and all naval history buffs go down to Mobile and see her. She's absolutely worth it and worth scrutinizing every last rivet of her glorious steel hide! Also, that tunnel to get there is fun! Edit: The last time I went nearly two years ago, we went when they were performing a live-fire test (with prop planes too, no less) of the 20mm Oerlikon autocannons. They were much louder than I anticipated!

Thanks for the tour video. Someday if I can manage to land my feet in the US, I will definitely visit one of those battleship museums. I really love real-steel ships on WoWs, no matter how bad they are in the game. Visiting one of them in the real world will be very exciting, like a dream come true 😊.

went down to Battleship Cove in Massachusetts, and saw the USS Josephy P Kennedy (Gearing class), USS Lion Fish (Balao class sub) and USS Massachusetts (same as Alabama) and man after playing World of Warships....Gearings are sooo much bigger then the game makes you think. which makes the Battleships absolute monsters. i saw Missouri @ Pearl many yrs ago, but forgot how big they really are. now to get Mass in game =\

Battle ships are freaking impressive. I mean you really have to be up close or on one to really know what they are like. I'm lucky enough to have been up close and on several. USS Missouri, USS Massachusetts, USS North Carolina and USS New Jersey. It has been years since being on any of them though. Most of those ships had a rough go of it around 30 years ago but luckily they all survived. If you ever find yourself in MA or RI then try and take a day and go to Battleship Cove in Fall River MA

The US has done a much better job preserving these ships than we have here in the UK. There are no KGV/Nelson/Dreadnought etc ships preserved, which is a real shame. Warspite is one of the most decorated ships in the history of the Royal Navy, but she was still scrapped, along with the last battleship ever built, the Vanguard. The big reason is how desperately their steel was needed after the war, I suspect. The US came out of WWII in much better shape than Europe, for obvious reasons, so it could afford to keep these ships around. I'd love to see one some day.

Great Britain was broke at the time selling steel and land was it's biggest ways to make a quick buck plus GB needed to almost revise most of their military other than their airforce. It is a shame that GB strike all of those BBs but decisions had to be made and (I may be wrong) I believe Great Britain still owes the US funds from WWll.

@@sealordmountbatten At the end of the war, England was on the edge of bankruptcy. They were still rationing afterward, London and other city's had to be rebuilt. It took at least 10 years, to even 15 years to recover. And of course, like the French, Germans, Dutch, Japanese, they also lost their overseas colonies. They had no time or resources for history.
