World of Warships - Learn to Play: Tier VI British Cruiser HMS Leander

Ойындар

I think it's time we covered one of the most controversial and unique lines in all of World of Warships: the British light cruiser branch. Let's kick things off here with Tier VI's HMS Leander.
00:00 - Intro
00:08 - Meet Leander
02:21 - British Light Cruiser AP Shells
11:11 - Survivability
12:32 - Armor
14:16- Maneuverability & Concealment
16:01 - Main Battery
19:01 - Torpedoes
20:58 - Depth Charges
21:36 - AA Defenses
22:41 - Consumables
26:45 - Upgrades
29:10 - Signals
29:55 - Commander Skills
31:43 - Sample Gameplay
Leander is obviously NOT the first cruiser in the British line that inflicts players with the AP-only playstyle. But she IS the first ship in the line where the ships have the complete package: turrets fore and aft plus smoke and heal, all packed into a nice, stealthy little hull. From here on out the line gets really, really good, and so it's a natural place to stop and explain how these AP shells work, what you want to be firing them at, and how you might want to consider positioning these ships. In this video I'll talk about how I build my Leander, why I fit her out that way, how I recommend playing her, and follow all of that up with a game demonstrating the ship in action.
Enjoy!

I tend to play Leander - on any map with decent cover - like it is a large DD, surprising enemy DD early game and using smoke to scoot as necessary. AP vs Cruisers is great too; and the rate of fire suited to farming enemy BB (again, from cover). The Leander feels quite OP tbh.

Even though I mostly play DDs, Danae is easily my favorite T4 ship in the game, so I'm really glad you did 'learn to play' videos on this line.

You love to see it. I appreciate the other learn to play series but this line feels like it has a way higher skill ceiling and expression which is exciting

I think it has both a higher skill floor and ceiling than what I have covered previously. For cruisers, anyway.

Great vid as always, but when talking about commander skills I think you could consider builds for people that move a single commander up the ships as they unlock them down the line. Like for example not taking grease the gears because minotaur has fast turrets anyway... or something like that

@SeaRaptor - great video. Was trying to understand how to make these British CLs work without HE. One question I had though, can you further explain the benefit of being able to fire the torpedoes one tube at a time?

Basically you can conga line them one after the other.... useful for slim targets such as ships bow into you. A standard torp Salvo might hit one but the standard spread would mean that the other torps in the Salvo would miss

I don’t like the all AP British light cruisers you get lots off ricochets and overpants and now and then you might get the odd citadel and you’re mostly have to rely on your torpedoes and smoke and they are very dull. Line to play now the British heavies are much better but the lines go down on the British cruises.

The British heavies aren't bad, but they aren't really unique in the way the British lights were for a long time.

Sir can you please do other classes as well such as battleships and CVs? I really enjoy these video and always learn something new each videos. I am (kinda) new and my highest tier is 8 and still learning.

I tend to avoid BBs as I feel like there are far better battleship players out there than I am. With that said, there are probably some battleship lines I could do and it would be useful. Carriers you likely don't want to learn from me. I am a thoroughly mediocre carrier player. I would look up Ahskance and see what he has available if you are looking for help there.

Well im going to get back to play after 1 year, i am still novice but back tyen i was playing 3 lines: -German -USA and British. They are in my opinion hardest to play and learn. I didnt quite like the leander, it feels like upgraded Emerald for 6 tier. Looking at this battle, maybe i am wrong but it is pretty average and dependant on your teammates spotting targets for you. And then you just sit in smoke plopping APs wishing somebody will turn side to you. Looks pretty boring and average considering going to 8 tier batttle looks like you are pretty useless and only free target. In comparision to Dallas its another story, you get great HE with great reload. But I see starting from Fiji, guns are getting better in this line along with Edinburgh having great concealment and radar looks way more competitive than poor weak Leander. But this is only my novice opinion there 😅

You're not wholly wrong. Leander has been nerfed repeatedly over the years to the point where she is just kind of OK. She isn't bad, but she isn't great. She's better than Emerald at least.
