I think most people who play WoWS know that you usually get 3 guns in a turret and one of them is accurate, the other 2 seem to fire wherever they want. What the germans did here was remove the accurate gun and leave us with the other 2 in each turret.

Actually at D-day, Warspite did only have 6 guns, a hit from a Fritz-X bomb earlier in the year knocked out X turret (I think, could’ve been Y turret) and a Boiler Room and the Brit’s just went “screw it not enough time or parts to repair”

Can we just take the time to appreciate the Hyūga captain, Aston1973, for actually apologising for “stealing” a kill from Nerf_Gascogne? When Aston finished off the Colorado, he said sorry, to which Nerf shrugged off the notion, saying he doesn’t care about the kill, just about winning. Wow, Aston1973, prime example of an impeccable gentleman, even though he didn’t do anything wrong, he just secured the kill and backed up his teammate, he still apologised in case his teammate was furious at a kill being stolen from them. Remarkable.

@@armorhide406 oh trust me, there are more sarcastic ways to voice displeasure at a kill being stolen than the generic quick command. Something like gee thanks for killing that ship that was gonna die anyway would be more appropriate to voice sarcasm. Either way, both players had outstanding moral fibre that you just don’t see in most players in MMO games anymore, the fact they need to be commended on their upstanding behaviour is both heartwarming and disheartening at the same time.

My GneiseaNO experience: enemy BB 4 km away: total miss Enemy cruiser 11km away: only had the back turret to fire, and gave it too much lead. The accuracy was so bad one of the shells actually hit the target, for a citadel and a kill

Way back when I was trying to grind up the japanese BB tree, I was in the T3 Kawachi, which the website says only has 162m dispersion but I swear that's either a lie or they buffed it because I remember at one point at a distance of maybe 5km, firing a full broadside at a ship, and killing its neighbor with a couple of the strays. It was just a videogame shotgun.

i want this commander. the "ding ding ding fire alarm" and the "dakka dakka dakka" just make me laugh

Thats why shes my Schlieffen commander. The "dakka dakka dakka" is so good with W-Schlieffen when you start killing people in quick succession with secondaries.

I refer to those kind of guns as Boat Washing. You don't hit, but the resulting spray cleans the opposing ship.

Jingles... the dispersion circles are calculated at max range. Dispersion ellipse of Gneissenau gun: 180⨉94 m at 12 km. Dispersion ellipse of Bismarck gun: 180⨉94 m at 12 km. Both have the same sigma. *flies away*

My best moment in the Gneisenau was when I completely missed a full salvo on a broadsiding Köningsberg at around 6 kilometers. Which of course lead to my death at the end.

The destroyer you're thinking about in the beginning is the Harekaze from Haifuri (its the Kagero with three guns to choose from).

I enjoyed this ship a lot actually, if you can island hop to close range it’s an absolute blast. The Colorado, however, I had to use free xp twice to get past it. I feel like my accuracy was worse with Colorado, on top of being worse in every other way.

Colorado's shell grouping is actually pretty good, not PERFECT mind you, but it will hit what your aiming at more often then not. 8 guns is decent, its certainly better then 6, plus ya got 4 guns on both ends of the ship. If all else fails try aiming about Center mass (accounting for Lead obviously) or slightly above the water line. Not gonna lie though the North Carolina is a pretty hard ship to Beat in terms of Fun and Effective. About the only "downside" is because she has the HEAVY AP shells but still only has 45 Caliber guns just like the Colorado, her AP shells are SLOW! like at 10KMs i think its like a 20-30 second flight time. So the Colorado does have a better time shooting something from a distance, since her AP shells are faster then the NC. BUT the NCs shells it like a BATTLESHIP CRASHING INTO A HARBOR when they hit. (like 5k per PEN hit) Colorado also Technically has "better" armor then the NC, its Thicker and you have like 3 or 4 layers of plating including the Torpedo Bulge (Torp Bulge>Main Belt>Casemate>Citadel) vs the NC which just has its Citadel sticking out of the ship or its behind very little armor.

I haven't played WoWs for quite some time but I remember the New Mexico being an absolutely terrible ship to play. Its guns were phenomenally inaccurate. As too were the Colorado's. I got to the Colorado and tapped out of grinding that line. I just got incredibly annoyed, the guns just didn't hit anything. The Warspite was my favorite ship, It actually hit were you aimed!

Colorado and Nagato both are absolute shit when only firing a couple of turrets. It's still tied to the idea of throw the brick around a corner, pop off a full broadside and fling the brick back round the corner the other way. Broadside salvos? Colorado and Nagato are both the absolute kiss of death. Firing 2 turrets at a time? Well, you might have grounds to send over an invoice for the exterior wash down, but metal on metal is most likely not going to happen.

@@jaywerner8415 Colorado only has 26mm armor all around which can get overmatched by almost every single bb she can face (with the exception of Lyon and King George V) compared to NC's 32mm which can only get overmatched by Yamato and tier 11 ships. The armor might as well not be there for colorado and she is so fat that the shell will most likely get full penetration damage rather than overpen. Other than that I agree with everything else you said. Also, it doesn't help that all 3 USN BB lines split at Colorado and you have to grind 3 ships worth to get pass that thing.

I never try to use the Bow/Stern armor cus as noted alot of shells can cut right though it and into the citadel or Casemate armor bulkhead. Yeah having to grind 3 times SUCKS! Like Colorado is not "bad" but she is NOT worth grinding 3 different likes over less you REALLY like playing her.

Ive played Gneisenau only a handful of times and i rember being in a fail division at T10 and my first salvo across the map at 25+ km was a triple citadel on a Monty. Forever placed this ship as one of the best T7 ships in my book

Also, I would argue that the Gneisenau is fine, and fun to play. She's fast enough, and has the armour to let you close to brawling range, where the accuracy of her guns is less of an issue, and her fantastic secondaries and torpedoes come into play. She's not supposed to fight at range.

Gneisenau's fun factor relies almost entirely on the quality of the enemy team's destroyers. If, like in this replay, they suicide in the first few minutes then it's great, because you can steam in and get some brawling done. If they survive to be a menace, then you either have to stay at range and be useless or get in close and eat torpedoes. Of course, if carriers are in play, then nobody has fun regardless.

I agree and feel the same. Jingles comments the guns are in accurate, they are very inaccurate, at range. Gneisenau is a true brawling battleship, and does exceptionally well at close range. One of my theories on why the guns are inaccurate is due to how hard they hit. One of the main thing I noticed while playing the Gneisenau is the damage number with only a few shells hitting. With a ship that hits hard and accurately at range, I think most people would call that broken.

I recognized the thumbnail and almost thought it was a reuploaded video. Glad I still watched it.

This is a man that made a whole video extolling the virtues of the Warspite but still doesn't know anything about the Warspite.

The success this Gneisenau player is obviously the result of the commander he chose! Her high pitched voice dramatically improved the main gun dispersion as the shells flew.

That squeaky voice of that commander is exactly why I pulled the Harikaze's commander and started training my Fubuki commander immediately.

I quite enjoyed the Gneisenau when I played through it. Mind you, this was years ago when the line first came out. I just played it with reckless abandon. I remember shooting down 40 something planes from a Hiryu that wouldn't leave me alone one game

Never forget that this is the third time Jingles has used this video title for Gneisenau replay.

The battle progressing, Nerf_Gas unloading a 15 inch salvo into the King George. meanwhile, in the background in a high pitch anime voice: *DING DING DING*

The most surprising thing about the Colorado fight is not the Gneisenau's guns behaving themselves. Nor is it the Colorado giving broadside the whole time. No, the most surprising thing about the Colorado fight was the Hyuga apologising to Nerf_Gascogne for stealing the kill. Huge points to both of them for that interaction.

The last time i played the Gneisenau, i missed a stationary broadside North Carolina at 3 km with three consecutive salvos. Not one single shell hit him. Gneisenau has been sitting in port ever since

Not its fault. BBs actually have two shell patterns. One out to about 7km or so, and then the longer, more accurate pattern, takes over.

I think Gneisenau was the point where I switched away from grinding the German tech tree. For reasons you have more than adequately expressed here.

10:20 - The Gneisenau and Bismarck have the exact same dispersion. The Bismarck is listed as 272m at 21.2km whereas the Gneisenau is 255m at 19.7km. The further the shells travel, the greater the dispersion (outside the shotgun pattern BBs get at close range). Since the Bismarck fires further, it gets a larger dispersion at max range. But the formula is the same for both guns so a Bismarck at 19.5km has 255m of dispersion. Which means, if the Gneisenau could fire to 21.2km it would have 272m of dispersion! And yes, this also means when you slap a spotting plane on a ship and fire further, guess what, your dispersion increases!

I've never had the misfortune to play the Gneisenau. A few years back when the Black Cat event was going on around Halloween, in the free crates you could earn I got the Graf Z and the Bismarck. I was just really getting into the game at that point and managed to jump past all the grindy low tier German BB's. The Bismarck was the first good BB I'd gotten and I played quite a bit in her. If it weren't for that lucky crate, I probably would have gotten frustrated with line and the grind.

Gneisenau gun simulator: Get 6 smooth bore muskets and 6 volunteers. Keep them awake for 3 days straight, give them welding masks to wear, get them incredibly drunk and have them spin around as fast as they can for 5 mins. Tell them to fire at a target 1000m away.

Gneisenau is pretty fun IMO, already said this in a past comment still in a video with this ship in it. Yes, the guns can be very dodgy at times, but I still love this ship in my line of tier 7 ships. Players that underestimate this ship usually pay for it in lost hp (given the main guns behave).

beautiful to see the return of this fine, poetic video title. Also, while it is true that small number of guns with bad accuracy are bad, the fact that the aiming system is full of bugs, is arguably the main reason for them feeling as bad as they do. if you switch target and get a failure to lockon every third time, or there is an island in the vicinity of the target and the shells decide to go towards the moon instead of the target 16 guns will still hit something, 6 will most likely not. So, I'm not sure if it's really that much the ship, but the fact that WG doesn't care about the core mechanics of their game...

Yeah, one time, and one time only I had a chef's kiss of a salvo with the Gneisenau. Start of a battle, spotting a New Mexico intermittently at 13km behind an island using my spotter plane. Dropped spot twice, but kept adjusting aim when spottedb(all I could see was the mast over the island). Third time spotting it, let her rip with a full salvo. All 6rds hit and penned, 5 citadels and one deleted, full health NM. Couldn't hit a damn thing the rest of that battle. And normal Gneisenau will derp all 6rds into the water when aiming at the broadside of an Iowa at 4km.

I must need to take a remedial math course. I could have sworn Warspite had eight guns. 😂

"If you only put six shots in the air EVERY 30 SECONDS..." -- Jingles keeps missing some important upsides of the Gneisenau. First off, it doesn't fire every 30 seconds, it fires every 26 seconds (without any perks). Second, the godawful dispersion is *at maximum range* -- and with a fast ship that has decent armor, good secondaries, and torpedoes, if you aren't taking the fight to the enemy, you're doing it wrong. The worst thing about the Gneisenau is therefore nothing about the ship itself. It's usually your teammates hanging back and trying to snipe their way through the battle, leaving you hanging. If you happen to get a team capable of playing aggressively, the Gneisenau is a thing of beauty. I very much like this captain's build, with the Brisk skill (or whatever it's called today). 37 knots in a straight line is quite a feature in the overall Gneisenau package, and I am running that build myself.

There need to be a gun accuracy dial in consumable, where gun sights and gun barrels get aligned. So that every barrel automatically gets adjusted - UP DOWN RIGHT LEFT - during the battle. Your guns get more accurate and precise within your ships length and width after 5 salvos. If you get hit in the turrets then its back to square one. Hit alignment again. Oh. BTW. The rear gun turret is always the most accurate.

They need to have a Chappelle voice so when you destroy a ship it says, "gotchya B****"!!!!

Jingles, you don't understand. This is the Kriegsmarine, if your salvos aren't hitting, you just aren't close enough yet. If close enough means ramming the gun barrel up the enemy's stern, well that's just what you have to do.

The annoying thing is that the Gneisenau had 9 280mm guns in triple turrets for the entirety of its career. After a British bombing run landed a AP bomb in its forward magazine while it was in dry dock for repairs they decided to retro fit it with the 380mm guns it has in the game, but that retrofit was never completed. Also its debated weather the Gneisenau was a BB or a BC.

IRL, it was in the process of being upgunned after losing one of it’s turrets was damaged. I think Hitler ordered Raeder to have the ship scrapped in a hissyfit. I forget the final reason for her demise.

My Gneisenau was a secondary battery build, because the guns are terrible. It was an unfortunate grind until I unlocked Bismarck and I stopped there.
