    You could also just... not use a mod? Not like trying to be a dick about it or nothing. I've never ever used a mod for questing help in any iteration of WoW. Quest text, and if I get stuck then WoWHead. I find that I still find quests that I have never done, and then I tend to level across the ones I enjoy most. So I'm saying more here that people might enjoy it more if they didn't defer part of the fun to an automated system that sucks all the fun out of it. My hardcore journey was amazing to be honest on official release. I dunno how, but I ended up on this whole thing chasing quests around Salt Flats, Tanaris and Feralas as Horde, and there were a bunch of them I'd never seen before. The Salt Flats ones send you EVERYWHERE if you take the time to see the all chains through. Felt like an amazing Classic journey I got to experience all over again. Genuinely, if you consider yourself a person of some intelligence then part of the fun in gaming is the problem solving, and figuring out where to go and how to approach _your_ problems is a part of that fun. SoD is the peak of all this soul-sucking garbage. Everything is automated now. Players don't play the game anymore. They read guides that actually good players make and sim some things and then cry that there's no content while locking other players out of the game for not treating this game like a series of statistics.

    On contrary, I think that it's understandable, that someone who hasn't played MMORPG's doesn't grasp everything players know, because at some point someone found stuff out. It's not like the game teaches you to do an AOE combo with frost mage, so most players will not figure this out on their own. To me it's interesting to hear such points, because while I might disagree at times, sometimes he has the same exact complaints as I do, as with questing giving you little options in terms of progression, the game having way too many quests and they may be confusing and messy at times, which is not solved by putting a GPS pointer on it etc. I think those are very valid points and I think it's also a valid point to consider the perspective of any potential new player, who does not have any game knowledge at all. I remember when I started playing way back and how I found myself constantly confused about something. And I sometimes still do, because the game has a massive amoutn of content to unpack for my tiny, smooth brain.

  • @earth2saka

    @earth2saka

    @@spongiplays Umm, yes it does. The game absolutely teaches you all this very clearly through spell tooltips, quests and all kinds of popup messages. It tells you how many targets it hits, for how much damage, at what mana cost. So you can put two and two together. A lower damage spell that hits 4 targets at higher mana cost is probably not as efficient on single targets as a higher damage spell that hits only one target at lower mana cost. It even gives you the spells sequentially so as not to overwhelm you, allowing you to try them one at a time. Retail even puts you on rails to make sure you're not doing anything else until you repeat your basic moves a few times. I absolutely consider the perspective of a new player. You're not considering any other opinion than your own. :)

    As much as backseat gaming sucks, there are some nice QoL / basic understanding of spells and when the ideal time to use them would take you from enjoying this, to really loving it. i.e. understanding a basic AOE rotation would let you pull like 10 things and once and push tons of damage. A basic understanding of frostbolt / ice lance / flurry would make it more enjoyable to pull off combos.

    Just a comment about the people saying that WoW is "just about the endgame". This is a completely false statement that people use to deflect criticisms about the games poor leveling experience and casual-player offerings. A very, very small portion of the playerbase actually interacts with the endgame and Blizzard has shared the stats in interviews that a majority of the players actually just do questing to collect transmog items. The WoW players that are often active on Twitch or other platforms are the more dedicated audience who do high-end raiding and Mythic+ level dungeons, but that is not at all how the other millions of players interact with the game. As someone who does high-end Mythic content, it really irks me when people say that because it discourages new players from even trying the game and devalues their experiences. I love this game and want it to continue to grow, but those of us who do interact with the end-game and min-max the game need to stop deflecting any criticism of the game with "Well it's about the end-game". It's not, nor should it be.

    honestly I kind of enjoy the WoW leveling experience, barring the occasional moments where all your progress is just completely thrown out the window or the random PvP zones. I kinda used to not like it, but, hearing the leveling experience was considered bad got me thinking about my time with FF14. Where.. frankly, I disliked the leveling experience so much that I only leveled one class through the MSQ, and never committed to leveling even one other job. It's like, I'd get to the second consecutive run of the same dungeon, and just.. give up on it. It was so tedious, and that was the only way to do it, running the same dungeon over and over. I'd much rather explore a world that just has some cool set pieces. Granted, plenty of games have done better than WoW, but man, I'm so happy to NOT be imprisoned in the same dungeon for 2 levels at a time, that's so boring.

    Ill agree with some parts about people doing their own thing in the game but when they say its about the Endgame they mean that the journey to 1-70 isnt meaningful at all.Just take in Classic for example it has many poor sides which have been upgraded through the years but just leveling from 1-60,doing some of the cooler/harder quests/Leveling a proffession while you level aswell,upgrading items from quests or doing a dung for a certain item thats what they mean that the game only offers you something to do at the Endgame. Yes you could probably enjoy retail leveling aswell in some aspects but for me as someone whos played for some years(i dont do Mythic and i barely try out M+ and Heroic raiding the last time i did this was in BFA i mainly PvP for abit then take a break or keep playing if the PvP doesnt get boring). As Someone who used to delete and relevel many characters ive never done it so i can enjoy doing something while leveling and i thank that i found Harldan's speedrunning guides so i can save the most time i can and i usually can hit 70 in 6 hours if sweat alot or i take from 8-10 hours if i want to get fully Honor geared at 70. Other than that yes you can Collect Mounts,Transmog,Make gold,PvE,PvP,RP there are many facets you can enjoy but the journey from 1-70 is not even close to 1-60 in Vanilla even if the game had many flaws back then and some of the specs are way too clunky and unusable. Im not sure if they can in anyway make Retail's leveling emit the same feeling people feel when theyre leveling in Classic but i dont think theyre even willing to.

    @0:11:30 oh wow that's actually a unique Take regarding AI-Art that I've not heard before. I am normally someone who is a million percent in favor of fully free AI, but I'm also an extreme Socialist in the technical definition and idealize a world where everyone is automatically secure enough to pursue Art or whatever they feel like. But I totally get the short-term worry that once making your own AI-model becomes as simple as downloading a user-friendly-App, that it becomes trivially easy to copycat specific artists. Personally, I still don't particularly care if anything I create is Pirated/Stolen. If my basic needs are met and I have a comfortable lifestyle I couldn't care less if you steal my stuff. But I get that most don't feel that way. The one exception I would have is for Corporations. If a Corp was free to use AI, or any means, to fully copy a small Artist's work, then that would be a load of crap, but Amazon literally already does this constantly and no one is doing a thing about it. Why does AI stealing Artist's work matter, but Amazon or other Corps stealing small-business's designs not matter? I call Hypocrisy, caused by Artists hyper-focusing on the things that affect them personally.

    Without it he wouldn't be able to visit these zones as he would be too high level. They didn't put scaling in there for no reason. It was straight up a terrible experience before. You could never finish a zone before you were to high level so you had to leave and go somewhere else perhaps even to a completely different expansion to find something at an appropriate level and then after you just got there the same problem would happen again.
