This is a point of view from a former dog(s) owner. I was out at Linda Mar beach to photograph the surfing contest. I ended up standing in the water in order to get decent shots of the dogs. After one hour of shooting, I started to have shivers, so I had to quit. The water was very cold. Those dogs were cold and miserable. Since I was in close proximity to the dog surfers, I did not observe any shivering from the dogs. Most of the dogs learned to keep a low center of gravity(crouching) in order to stay on boards. The dogs were experienced surfers. It was safe to say that more than half of spectators were dog owners as they brought their pets. Everybody cheered on. I did not observe any protesters. I left a comment to the surf organizers suggesting they move the venue to warmer waters.
