That must had been a hard pill to swallow for Jun. Imagine taking a 3-0 lead against an Olympic champion but lost the match in the end. Nevertheless he's one of the greatest Japan ever produced. Zhang Jike showed calmness throughout the match. Missing this beast of TT a lot. What a match!
ZJK was born with champion's nerve. I have seen Ma Long hesitating in WTTC semifinal, Wang Hao panicking in Olympic final, Timo Boll sighing in the finals. But ZJK always stays cool, even when he loses.

That's important if you want to be the best of all time. Since after 2013 Ma Long has had nerves of steel and that's why he won 3 consecutive WTTCs. Trust me, Ma Long will be remembered as the best of all time and i knew that since 2012.

i got emotional watching this especially when zjk gets those net/edge balls back and u can imagine the amount of concentration and metal toughness i miss that young fearless zjk

+type991 zjk lost all his fight in 2015. he lost to so many foreigners, idk what happened to his mental state, he looks like he doesnt try anymore.

Mental toughness my ass!Japanese team was nowhere near the Chinese in terms of technical skills or athletic ability. Zhang was a two wing looper,he had a massive advantage over Mizu.One should keep perspective of the situation. Zhang has always been a very slow starter but he got away considering the level of competition he faced for the short period of his physical prime.And he lost to Boll in the Olympics team events in 2012 whilst Boll has always been irrelevant in the big events folding like a cheap tent. Ηis narrow matches against Samsonov were quite telling. Samsonov against the Chinese had been irrelevant since the early 00's,last time he beat Ma Lin was in 2000 and his h2h against Wang Hao was truly horrible Ι think he beat him only once out of 17 attempts.Zhang's generation wasn't even that remarkable.

My favorite video of my favorite player, ZJK! After 10 years, I watched it so many times just to enjoy his power and gracefulness. Before playing, I also make sure to watch this for inspiration and to remind myself of footwork.

My favorite match of all time. What mental fortitude ZJk has? Nerves of steel. I watch this video sometimes before my matches just to get inspired.
When ZJK gets excited, shouting and jumping around, he's a beast and nobody can beat him..

@Daniel Coto :This guy used to own ma long from 2008 Olympics till he lost to long in 2012.At his best, he had no competition. The only difference is, Ma long has a better game management strategy than him. Ma long plays so safe in order to win, Zheng just plays without safety.
I DON'T CARE IF IT'S 2020 and this is 10 years old. This Match had me at the edge of my seat, and I knew who was gonna comeback!
Both players displayed exceptional ability, Mizutani's tenacity far away from the table and ZJK's continuous FH and BH loops were so consistent and high quality. The psychological aspect of coming back from 0-3 down for ZJK...what a beast
Final set was just ZJK playing close to perfect table tennis. These guys, ZJK, Ma Long, Fan Zhendong and these crazy chinese men, what word can describe their abilities? It's just for us to enjoy I guess, no way that it's possible for any human to become that good in anything, these men are like ninja warriors.

What? The final set was his worst, and that speaks. That's why the score was ratcheted to 10 serving 2. Match point was practically automatic. Irony, and finally Mizutani tried to use the same crazy style, which should never work. U can see his face at the end started off leading 3-0, at the end ...

Its Posible that Zhang Jike was the most natural talent table tennis player, and Ma long the stronger yours matchs are legendarys and It will be remembered as the best in the history of this sport
It’s sad he got injured so soon and never came back the same Zheng again. What a legend.
His head of coach Liu Guo Liang ever admitted once said that watching ZJK match has much more fun comparing to Ma Long’s. He alway plays incredible ball which is unexpectedly

jike doesn't move a lot is always my observation. It makes him look flat footed but i think it's because he's reading where the ball is going better than other players.

The serve was illegal not because he threw it outside the table or anything, but the umpire on the side facing Mizutani's back, couldn't see the ball at any chance, which he has to, for the serve to be legal. Both umpires have to see it tho

That's not necessarily true. If your back is facing one of the umpires they just will not be able to see the serve. The umpire facing the player will have to make the call.

I think because of this rule: The ball must not be hidden from the receiver at any time during the service.
