Those Gato 222's you have there, world class. Definite highlight of the recent Warsaw Audio Show for me. ;)
This is your best speaker review yet. Nicely done!
Love TAD speakers, years ago met Andrew Jones at an Australian Hi-Fi show. I know he no longer works for TAD but his designs and engineering shines through!
The TADs are the best speakers I have heard, period. When you visit audio shows as I have over the years, there are certain components that stand out while all the other gear just dissipates into the ether. You won’t forget the TADs anytime soon. I found myself repeatedly going back to the room where the TADs were, hooked up to Krell FPB-300s. Heaven
I had an eerily similar experience when I got my TAD E1-TX, couples well to the room and nice soundstage even if the placement is quite bad and just so much details. I'm really really happy with them! :D

My CSS Criton 1TD-X are just getting some time on them. I'm completely happy and they do sound great. I can't see spending any more in a room with a big TV, non-symmetrical room setup, no treatment other than a king-sized bed and carpeting.
Although I haven't heard this particular TAD, I have no doubt everything you said is true. TAD may not have the physical bling like a Wilson or Magico but believe me when I say they are in another sonic league all together. I have never heard a TAD sound anything other than world class. The ET703 horn tweeter they have now sadly discontinued is simply the most amazing tweeter I have ever heard. As they did start as a pro driver company they have offered high end home gear for many years now Jay.
Bass on the TAD ME1 is the best I have heard on bookshelf speakers
BAM ! - Facts .. 2:11 .. Experience and skill set is required to appreciate the resolving nature of higher-end gear.
Excellent review! Thanks for sharing Jay 👍
Hey Jay, I am using the Joseph Audio Pulsar 2 bookies....about the same pricing of the TADs. I ditched the conventional stands and purchased some cool table top stands that are a bit lower to the floor and perfect. Also I am rounding it out with a pair of REL T7s. I agree with you in this category these speakers are a serious competitor with some name brand high end floorstanders. Doesn't hurt to use some decent amplification as well.....the Hegel H590 rules. Thanks Jay, excellent presentation.
Difficult to find dealers that have TAD, and not showcased at audio shows often. Did get to hear the TAD Evolution 2 floorstander at this year's Axpona. Very smooth and refined sound.
A really fine stand mount speaker indeed. 👌
Andrew Jones designs go from very affordable to very expensive and they all provide exceptional value!

According to Stereophile's 2018 review of these, this was the first new TAD speaker that wasn't designed by Andrew, as it was developed after he left to work for Elac, although they say it retains some of his influence. Their chief engineer is Toru Nagatani, who is based at their Japanese headquarters
Suggested about this on your 10K Sonus Faber review. Glad that you bought them! I'd say steps above in terms of resolution retrieval without losing the midrange smoothness. Next one you shall try, Genelec 8631 pair. This is the end game bookshelf for me right now.
Thank you I have Saved this Video to my Best Tech I love ❤️ & Want
I have a pair of Magico A1’s driven by a Krell K300i. Stream via nucleus with chord mscaler and TT2. Separation is outstanding, the speakers disappear. 3d like depth. Bass is outstanding. No port allows me to place them very close to the back wall. Listening space is 12’ wide x 20’ depth.
Very good video Jay with detailed explanation about sound, technical perspective and amplifier combinations. I have never heard these speakers but they should be amazing. The review of TheAlphaAudio (Dutch channel/website) about the TAD Evolution 2 floorstanding loudspeakers also noticed the quality of TAD speakers as their new reference. I am not sure if these will fit into your space (maybe too big?) but over here they cost a 1000 euro more then these ME1's so maybe it's something to look into as a review. But as you mentioned earlier, it's all about personal taste, making compromises, and finding out what works best for you. I am big fan of Dynaudio speakers (you should try Confidence 20) but I recently heard SF Maxima Amator and they sounded great also. Keep up the good work! Greetings from The Netherlands.
Just keep coming back to the TAD ME1 , impossible to ignore and dismiss at your peril if purchasing up to $15k on a pair of bookshelf speakers. I would love to hear a comparison of this TAD with Marten Parker Duo , Yamaha NS3000 & Sonus Faber Guarneri
Now I love ur Channel I'm going to go bk & watch more of ur Videos
Great review. I would love to see you review one of the Vivid Audio speakers. I may be biased, coming from South Africa as I do, but I would still really enjoy hearing your take on one of the units in the Vivid Kaya range (like the Kaya 25 or Kaya 45), or, if at all possible, maybe the Giya 4 (the smallest in the Giya range).
Hi Jay, have just seen you video here and am thankful for your review. I am almost ready to commit on a new pair of this ME1 n woulf be pairing it with my current Accuphase E800 Class A integrated amplifier n my recently acquired Esoteric N05XD streamer together with the same Esoteric G02X clock...hope everything comes together well. Excellent review. Can agree that these speakers ar fantastic. Am very interested, in getting a pair.
Hi Jay, would be great if you would review the Dutch & Dutch 8c speakers. Active bookshelves, cardiod design, DSP with room correction and built in SW. They are really great.
10:20 Man !! 👍🏼 I have their mother TAD Pioneer S-2ex and S-1ex at home. Also a Technics RS1500 shown when u pick Aerosmith LP record. ❤❤
Great review. I actually appreciate a lot your reviews because of a few reasons: You have a treated room so definitely you listen to the gear in the proper way and the room allows you to hear the differences. You also say the negatives when it's the case. etc... It would be great if you could help me with the following question: How does the ME1 compares with the CE1 (the bigger bookshelf in the lineup)? Thank you
Great intro.
I bought a pair of Pioneer RM-05 active monitors on a whim. These are coaxial monitors designed by TAD with a Pioneer logo on them. They sound absolutely incredible. It sounds as if the audio is coming from the center of my listening space without there being an actual speaker there. They're also heavy at nearly 10kg each, built out of diecast aluminium. I was at a clearout sale and these were floor models that had been used for some years, but the first thing I did with all the speakers they had was knock on the cabinet to see how "solid" they are and these hurt my knuckles and hardly made a sound. Hardly anyone bought these Pioneer models when they got released and it's a real shame since they're so good. Also, apparently the guy at TAD worked at KEF where he invented those type of drivers.
Good show 👍
REcently upgraded to cornwall IV from proac d20r. Loving the cornwalls, but I'd say the proacs had the 3d/surround sound you imply (within suggested price range)

Great review. Sound signature description reminds me of Raidho's bookshelf speakers. Neutral yet super engaging. Except these produce good bass. My Raidho's need REL subs to feel complete... Silver makes it look cheap imho. Piano black is definitely the way to go I think...

Looking forward to your review of the Vincent amplifier.
Maybe review a few Proac speakers? Just a suggestion. Good channel man.
would you try Townshend Audio podiums in place of Isoacoustics for comparison of imaging and bass control?
You need to compare them to the Focal Sopra 1, the best bookshelf speaker I've ever heard. It was Alpha Audio's reference speaker for a long time, until they replaced it with some TAD floorstanders

I own the Tad evolution one speakers and other than the Tad Referance one, I haven't found another speaker that I want more than it.
The TAD bookshelves are my end game.
I loved (modest budget) Ae1's from acoustic energy of the UK. Jay, is it at all possible you could review this company's flagship speaker, the reference one tx as a comparison? I would love to know the bang-for-the-buck factor.
Thx. New refference speakers? this or Sonus if you need to choose?
Which speaker cables are those in white? Do the TAD’s pair nicely with that Luxman amp you picked up? cheers
I wonder how these compare to a high end headphone like susvara. Obviously different but still would be a cool comparison
This afternoon i was doing the same thing as your friend. But it was in my own room. With a denon x4100 and elac 247 combo.
My Martin Logan motion 60xt with m Cambridge CXA81 integrated amp sometimes produce instruments from behind me.
I think I recognised an Atoll amp sitting on your lowboard in the background. Am I right and did you ever review it? I love it for its subtle power, smoothness and minimal design. But I keep wondering which DAC would be a fitting upgrade - Qutest, Pontus, RME...

iIdo not like the design of the slot port design but i bet they sound great
will these pair well with benchmark amplification?
3:46 What does that mean? It means the vowels and consonants are coming from the same point instead of over 6" apart. What does that mean? It means that the stereo image is stronger and it tends to stay with you as you walk around the room, much like a rainbow in a sprinkler shower in the sunlight. You get more engagement and more 3D effect.
Nice! Jay, do you think the Audio Note Tonmeister you reviewed could drive them? If so, wonder how that combo would sound. Potential synergy there?
I saw vincent audio on your cabinet haha. Review it pls
Will these speakers sound good w my lyngdorf 3400 amp?
Vimberg Amea, Borresen Z01s, Stenheims- All World Class. Not heard TADs but will. Love to see the inside of a pair. Better tone than the Amator 3s? What would Danny say?? haha
@Jayiyagi
Жыл бұрын
Amator 3 has such a captivating and mesmerizing tone to it that I can’t say I like the TAD’s tone better but as I have said before, I find the TAD and Totem more accurate. Danny said in a comment that tone isn’t his priority because ppl can eq it… (which I don’t fully agree) but then he also said eq destroys soundstage (which I had similar experiences when using eq in the analog domain)… 🤷♂️ Now that you mention it, I do need to ask him further on that
I was wondering what Jay's room dimensions are?
I'd like to see a blind A/B comparison between these, and budget oriented crowd favorites.

Jay. Do you still plan to visit GR Research & review? I believe you had planned on a October visit. Thx.
I love the Wilson Audio Tune Tots, they are priced similarly, how do they compare?
@Jayiyagi
Жыл бұрын
good question. Tune Tots are very dynamic speakers and also made for practical placements (and not necessarily limited for only treated rooms). I'd say they are fairly close and comes down to application. TAD I'd put in a more medium to large rooms but the Wilson, maybe in a smaller or desktop environment. The TADs are more refined, balanced, image and does bass more effortlessly + a more full sized 3 way speaker while the tune tots are a 2 way and relatively much smaller
Jay, I really enjoyed this review. The TAD stand mount is now on my short list to audition. Btw, may I ask you to name the speaker wire lifters seen in your YT vid? Cheers.

Custom made for cheap. I have a video on it
If these come with the stands, shouldn't the stands be prewired on the inside so you don't have to have speaker wire trailing down the support pole? Do these need a subwoofer also and does TAD offer one that pairs with these? According to a Stereophile review and testing, these drop off significantly below 60 Hz.
Thank you for the review! Sounds like these are the best in their class but still I would name few other models that may compete with the TADs . I'm thinking of Marten Parker duo, Vimberg Amea, QLN Prestige. If you ever had a chance to demo any of the models I would like to hear your thoughts. Also, I would like to know if these TADs completely wiped the floor with the sonus fabers or they just do better in terms of imaging and soundstaging? I do own SF Olympica speakers and I think they are unmatched in timbral accuracy
Are you ever going to review those Gato amplifiers!!
So Jay are you going to trade these TADs for your Sonus Fabers? The hifi game can cruel for us enthusiasts 😂. Personally, I’ve tried the Vivid Audios Kayas and they’re good … so fast but balanced.
I was hoping you would play Aerosmith, because most high end speakers reviewers only play classical or acoustic jazz music thru them.
Can you review the Yamaha NS-5000?
Согласование акустической системы зависит ещё и от акустического оформления. Фазоинвертор плохо согласуется. Закрытый ящик, Открытая система и лабиринт согласуются лучше.
My emotiva t1 towers plays sounds behind me and its very freaky lol
Hey Jay! If you want an even poorer recording, ex Aerosmith, you should get a Columbia House copy. 😄

Hi Jay, do you think KEF REFERENCE 1 META speakers are direct competitors of these ones?
@Jayiyagi
Жыл бұрын
Not sure as Ive not heard the “meta” version but I found previous higher end 3way kef speakers to be not as coherent and seamless at the crossover point - seems more disjointed than the TAD’s 3 way designs
@juliangst
Жыл бұрын
The Reference 1 is the first speaker that came to my mind as a possible option for a comparison as well. The Kef measure absolutely flat and have extremely low distortion for a bookshelf speaker. Would really love to see a blind comparison between the Kef and Tad given that they both use a coaxial with a woofer below
Think I’d do the Dynaudio Heritage and save money. Sure these are great but it’s not intended for others than like hey see me. 15 k is getting seriously expensive
How does the CSS audio 1TDX compare? Only asking because you said the 1TDX bested your $10k Sonus Faber.
@Jayiyagi
Жыл бұрын
it didn't best the sonus fabers, it was on par (talking about performance only). TAD bests my sonus fabers in terms of performance on paper and listening tests. It is also physically bigger than both the css and sonus faber + TAD speakers are 3 way speakers (has that natural advantage of having an extra driver to do the work etc)
The only issue is the TAD speakers are extremely picky about AMPs. You will get a very good sound when matching with TAD's own AMP. Another brand called Analog Domain also matches very well maybe even better than TAD's own AMP. But they are damn expensive as the TAD speaker itself...
you said same about the other coffee...I mean Totem element metal speakers😂
How does any company justify the price of those high end speakers when they are not at top notch level per Danny gr. I would expect ll speakers o have it best frequency at the time I purchase them
For $15K They better be all that and a bag of chips.My Watkins Gen 4 will have to do for now maybe someday
Hey Jay, more TEKTON’s please!!!!

Were these designed by Andrew Jones? I realize that this is hardly a realistic, but nonetheless, how would you compare them to the Elac UniFi Reference 3 way?
@Jayiyagi
Жыл бұрын
These were not designed by Andrew jones but definitely shadows many of his work at TAD and Pioneer. Elac unifi reference is a great speaker especially for the money but is physically a much smaller speaker - definitely does not go full range and side by side… there is just no comparison in every way (for me) in both material/physical appearance and sound quality
@garykarlin1777
