    Supposedly, the developer for Workoutdoors is currently working on re-writing the Navigation system to include things like turn by turn, distance remaining, and elevation profile (climbpro). So perhaps in the next year or so, work outdoors could replace footpath.

Because you can lock the screen (4x) but when your sleeve hits the button then its only one step away to pause / stop your workout (in the middle of the actual work out). It has happened to me once and i lost ca half of the very long training. I did not check the watch before the finish as i was confident that all would be saved but unfortunately it was not... :( Thanks a lot!

    First off, thanks for a very thorough video. I really appreciate all the effort you put into this. After watching this, I’ve learned it’s so much easier to use a Garmin for hiking. Last year I used my AW7 when hiking Elbert in CO and it died before my hike was completed which led me to Garmin. I used the Fenix 7 pro this summer while heading West for a week. I summited 3 peaks, did numerous hikes and didn’t have to charge it once. I’d really like to have an AW but this process just seems annoying. Maybe after setting it up, hikes are easy to add to watch? I miss Apple Music, strength training apps and podcast on AW. I’m afraid even the AWU can’t handle my 2 day hiking adventures though. What are your thoughts? I’d like to take 2 days to hike Blanca, Ellingwood and Little bear but not sure the AWU can last. Is it only 12hrs gps tracking? Is that with low power mode? I suppose if I bring a portable charger for AWU I can charge it when I wake up before I hike the next day 🤷‍♂️.

  • @Hikingguy

    @Hikingguy

    8 ай бұрын

    Yea, I struggle with which one to wear a lot, but overall I've settled on the Garmin. It's just less hoops to jump through for a hike or workout. If you have both watches already, you can do what a lot of others do, and just wear the Garmin for hikes and the AW for everything else. I do this sometimes. I track the workout in Garmin, and then sync to Health. When not hiking, AW for sleep, etc.

    @@Hikingguy Thanks a LOT for the reply! I think I will do what you mentioned. I forgot that I can sync Garmin to Apple health. You saved me some money. I will hold onto the Garmin until Apple gives a good enough reason to let it go. A family member also said I could use their Spotify premium account to add podcast and music to my Garmin! We shall see how good that works. I look forward to your future videos!

    The gps function of the watch consumes a lot of power. Workoutdoors has a feature that it powers on the gps chip only when you look at the map. This prolongs battery life greatly. Of course, when using this feature you should not track your hike, so there are no statistics. But you do have the map, the route, and your location when looking at the watch. For casual all day hiking, this works great.

    Thank you very much for this excellent review and tutorial! It truly does a service to the app. Is amazing how much you get for that one time payment. Although all the options and features it has are its strongest selling point, it is also to a degree a double edge sword. It is a very intimidating app to get into when compared to something like Footpath which gets you going right away. You mentioned you use both Workoutdoors and Footpath, may I ask by what factors of a hike or activity do you chose one over the other? I am quite curious. Thank you!

A big issue for me is the possibility to take me back to start during a hike without a preplanned route? What is the shortest route back to start? Trackback and direction is ok but will not suffice here. Can the Workoutdoors app do this? If not, is there an app for the AW that can do this that you know about?

    You can reverse a course on Workoutdoors but there's really nothing standalone for the AW that offers the nav functionality that a Garmin does. Everything needs a phone, sync, etc. - I'd say for straight ahead navigation, the Garmins do a much better job

    I sold my Epix. For my use cases Workoutdoors together with the speed (zooming/panning the map is a joy on the AW) and versatility (with the AW I can control my house and my car) of the AW beat the Epix. The only thing I miss is an elevation profile but that will come in a future update of WOD.

    Garmin enables you to “see” all your activities on your Garmin site via phone and computer (mac/PC) with large monitor. Why Apple does not allow you to see all your activities / health metrics even on the mac is a mystery.
