Appreciate the work you do for us
Many thanks you for this tutorial.

Thanks for making this video 👍
Best review and instructions. Thank you
After watching your video I added this app to my Apple Watch Ultra and could not be more pleased with its performance! Thanks
Awesome video. Thank you. Very helpful.
Great video. Many thanks.
Thax for very good and informative videos
Wow !! I researched to display the remaining distance since 3 months and thanks to you now it’s finally working ! Thank you !
I was having trouble with the gpx file import so thank you for this! This really is the only app I’ll ever need for hiking. And I love that’s it’s not subscription based!
Supposedly, the developer for Workoutdoors is currently working on re-writing the Navigation system to include things like turn by turn, distance remaining, and elevation profile (climbpro). So perhaps in the next year or so, work outdoors could replace footpath.

very much enjoyed all your videos - thanks you! Does workoutdoors have a screen that shows one's status vs. a route's elevation profile? this is very helpful in a real-time situation.
it’s a really great app, i can save money on a Garmin device for my biking
That’s a really great review thanks a lot for the work, it’s super useful I was looking for more informations to find a good watch between Apple Watch and Garmin, looks like an Apple Watch with that app is a prefect combo (too bad that the battery is not great with Apple otherwise it would have been perfect)
What band are you using? It looks very nice on the watch. Thanks!

WHOA Big Big BIG Thank you!!!
Thx. Would you happen to know if this also work with the iPhone 7?
Thanks... this is great for hike, but how to use to trail running?
WorkOutDoors can auto-pause and resume with independent adjustable settings for each of duration and speed
Awesome
Thanks! Very good vid indeed. One question. Would it be possible to lock watch buttons also when using Work OutDoors? (like put the watch fully lock basically). Because you can lock the screen (4x) but when your sleeve hits the button then its only one step away to pause / stop your workout (in the middle of the actual work out). It has happened to me once and i lost ca half of the very long training. I did not check the watch before the finish as i was confident that all would be saved but unfortunately it was not... :( Thanks a lot!
Hi Hiking Guy! Really enjoy all the videos; well done. Question: if you had to chose one watch to wear for everything what would it be? Thanks

this video might be helpful: kzread.info/dash/bejne/oI2l2tpqodi8pLA.html - if you want the best tool for everyday life in the Apple ecosystem + hiking, the AW is great. If you want the best tool for the outdoors, the Epix is my move. Some people switch them out based on what they're doing, but obviously it's $$$ and a small hassle
Thank you for all your videos about inReach and ACR devices. I decided to get the 67i and an ACR and I was curious when you would be putting up your video about the 67i. I've tried to set it up from watching your 66i video but noticed there are some differences. Thanks again.

This really is a great app. I’m a long distance runner and I’m using it for five years now. It even integrates with my sturdy foot pod. The only thing lacking is an integration with TrainingPeaks - but I think this will come one day…

Like giving birth to get a map/route onto the watch. Take my money Garmin :)
How was the battery life when using the workoutdoors hiking???
First off, thanks for a very thorough video. I really appreciate all the effort you put into this. After watching this, I’ve learned it’s so much easier to use a Garmin for hiking. Last year I used my AW7 when hiking Elbert in CO and it died before my hike was completed which led me to Garmin. I used the Fenix 7 pro this summer while heading West for a week. I summited 3 peaks, did numerous hikes and didn’t have to charge it once. I’d really like to have an AW but this process just seems annoying. Maybe after setting it up, hikes are easy to add to watch? I miss Apple Music, strength training apps and podcast on AW. I’m afraid even the AWU can’t handle my 2 day hiking adventures though. What are your thoughts? I’d like to take 2 days to hike Blanca, Ellingwood and Little bear but not sure the AWU can last. Is it only 12hrs gps tracking? Is that with low power mode? I suppose if I bring a portable charger for AWU I can charge it when I wake up before I hike the next day 🤷♂️.

Yea, I struggle with which one to wear a lot, but overall I've settled on the Garmin. It's just less hoops to jump through for a hike or workout. If you have both watches already, you can do what a lot of others do, and just wear the Garmin for hikes and the AW for everything else. I do this sometimes. I track the workout in Garmin, and then sync to Health. When not hiking, AW for sleep, etc.
@Mdogbrown

@@Hikingguy Thanks a LOT for the reply! I think I will do what you mentioned. I forgot that I can sync Garmin to Apple health. You saved me some money. I will hold onto the Garmin until Apple gives a good enough reason to let it go. A family member also said I could use their Spotify premium account to add podcast and music to my Garmin! We shall see how good that works. I look forward to your future videos!
The gps function of the watch consumes a lot of power. Workoutdoors has a feature that it powers on the gps chip only when you look at the map. This prolongs battery life greatly. Of course, when using this feature you should not track your hike, so there are no statistics. But you do have the map, the route, and your location when looking at the watch. For casual all day hiking, this works great.

Thank you very much for this excellent review and tutorial! It truly does a service to the app. Is amazing how much you get for that one time payment. Although all the options and features it has are its strongest selling point, it is also to a degree a double edge sword. It is a very intimidating app to get into when compared to something like Footpath which gets you going right away. You mentioned you use both Workoutdoors and Footpath, may I ask by what factors of a hike or activity do you chose one over the other? I am quite curious. Thank you!

Seems WorkOutDoors has overlooked use of waypoints besides just display one on a preplanned route. Are their any mapping apps that allow for creating and navigating to waypoints besides the native compass app that doesn’t allow for map usage?
Do you prefer workoutdoors or footpath more? Thank you for these walkthroughs. I used footpath for the first time yesterday and am training up for a few weeks in Switzerland.

I am curious why outdoors have little to no support ?
It's nice that apple is trying. But there 2 to 4 years behind on Garmin on any factor.
Ive hiked over 100 mountains in the past couple of years and I do not go anywhere without workoutdoors, im not sure that enough outdoor enthusiasts and hikers are aware of just how amazing it is. i find it smoother and cleaner than the high end fenix watches with dedicated breadcrumb trail gps etc. Currently using Apple watch series 7 and the battery life is already noticeably worse, Im lucky to get through my entire 7-8 hr hike without plugging it in to a portable charger. How is your battery life with the ultra?
Anyone has the issue where the digital time dims the screen when the wrist is down?
Can you save a waypoint on the watch directly? As in if you came across a good camping spot for example, then save the location?

Not on this app but you can use the Apple Compass app to save waypoints. You just can't get them out of the watch I think.

I usually just use AllTrails, which was pretty cool as it just sips power (I can hike 30+km and still have 80% power vs. "Hiking" which drains battery in 6-7 hours of active use); however, it has stopped connecting with Apple Watch recently so I need to troubleshoot the issue.
So to define the path you want, that has to be done with a different app than workoutdoors? I have to make a gpx file and import it?

Thanks Chris. Awesome review and guide. I am currently a happy Epix2 owner but I’m considering the AWU. I bought the AWU to test and I tried the footpath app without being totally pleased. A big issue for me is the possibility to take me back to start during a hike without a preplanned route? What is the shortest route back to start? Trackback and direction is ok but will not suffice here. Can the Workoutdoors app do this? If not, is there an app for the AW that can do this that you know about?
@Hikingguy
Жыл бұрын
You can reverse a course on Workoutdoors but there's really nothing standalone for the AW that offers the nav functionality that a Garmin does. Everything needs a phone, sync, etc. - I'd say for straight ahead navigation, the Garmins do a much better job
