19 REAL LIFE Ways I Use My Apple Watch Ultra
Ғылым және технология
The Apple Watch Ultra is a very hyped product and it can be hard to know how useful it might be in real life. The usefulness of the Apple Watch (not just the Ultra) is really a product of lots of small conveniences that add up through the day.
In this video I detail 19 real life daily uses I've found for the Apple Watch.
Interestingly this applies to all Apple Watches - for me the ruggedness and battery life are why I went for the ultra - not least so the battery can survive when using its cellular connection without my phone.
Like smart phones and mobile phones before them I think there is an element of until you’ve had one you don’t really know what you’re missing.
Of course it’s possible to live a wonderful and fulfilled life without an Apple Watch. But the same could be said about a huge number of modern gadgets and gizmos.
It’s just that good technology offers us an incredible boost to daily convenience and if we’re intentional enough about it we can use that to get more out of the time we have in our days.

I scoffed at the idea of an Apple Watch for years. To be honest, I felt I didn't need another screen calling for my attention all the time. I decided to get the SE2 a couple months ago. Didn't realize what I was missing. The idea that it actually REDUCES screen time on other devices is 100% true. Many tasks can be accomplished without being sucked into an addictive, time wasting phone session. I also knew the health features would help me focus more on that part of my life. The tech I have mostly tells me what I need to do on a daily basis, and closing the health rings has become a passion of mine. I feel years being added to my life instead of being taken away with terrible health habits. The tip about raising to talk to Siri without pressing any buttons was one I wasn't aware of. That's awesome! Great video and thanks for the info.

@@darma8159 nice mindset, kid. SE does everything like all Apple Watches except the always on display and maybe some minor things. Why it’s lame to spend less on a device which fulfills all your needs? You will grow up and understand the value of money.
I bought a series 2 and loved it. Now I have upgraded to the Ultra and it is absolutely fantastic. Obviously there are all the Ultra benefits but the upgrades that have come over the last 5 years are fantastic as well.
Respect to any guy that says he doesn’t train much, but absolutely kills those muscle ups! Great video!
I absolutely LOVE my Apple Watch Ultra!!!! I went with the Trail loop black and gray because the metal ones can scratch the edge of the watch. Unlocking my Mac and passwords are amazing. The size and ease of use is in a class of its own!! Great video!
This video is really helpful by showing real benefits of the watch in our daily life. So many reviewers who just neard around digging into every possibility that doesn’t make your life easier. I want real daily use tips like this video offers. I will get the watch because of the battery life, I’m no athlete although I do exercise to keep myself in okey condition. Best wishes from Finland!
Been waiting for the ultra since Apple Watch series one, it’s tough, waterproof and has great battery life you don’t notice the size if you have used other smart watches . The ultra has replaced my suunto 9 baro and I haven’t missed it
I tried it on in the Apple Store because I wanted to see how big it is. I really liked it! Getting one next year.
I love it for the fitness stuff, it’s great to be running and see what cardio zone you are in, and measuring other health stuff. Using it to find my phone is great, it also tells me if I left something behind (like my keys with an AirTag or my iPad). I’m really happy I got it. I would recommend it to anyone who can comfortably afford it. The longer you have it the more useful it becomes as you discover it’s features and get used to using them
Thank you for this video. I have had an Apple Watch since series 2 and I learned a new thing or two from your video. I currently have an Ultra and love the larger screen. BTW, my favorite ways of using my watch are the timer, the weather, reading text messages, and finding my phone! Oh, and of course to tell time.
This is one of the best reviews I’ve seen on the Apple Watch Ultra. Seeing actual day to day uses, rather than just the fixation on the fitness side to it. I’ve actually just ordered mine, and I can’t wait to get into it.
almost all the things that you mentioned are common for all apple watches and I use them on the SE as well. The only reason I would upgrade to the Apple watch ultra is to use it as a Dive computer!
Came from series 2 42mm, and jumped to the Ultra 🙏🏼😊 Huge change
Hi Ben! I finally switched over to have my iPhone 12 be my main driver, and that made me look at the Apple Watch Ultra to replace my Samsung Galaxy watch (which I loved with my Samsung Ultra phone). I found your video and all the tips helped me decide on switching over along with choosing the Ultra. My wife has used Apple watch for years and I knew of its benefits, but this video you made was not only informative, but provided the practical examples that helped make switching over easier! Great video, and I'm combing through your other content as a subscriber now. Keep up the good work! :)

I use the reminders app the most! So nice to be to tell Siri to remind me to do something and timers are nice too.

If you hold down the “phone locator”, it will not only sound an alert on your phone, but will also make your flash on the phone blink with the alarm. You don’t have to change any settings, just hold it down instead of just clicking it!

This video further confirms it to me that I don’t need a smartwatch. I’ve tried it in the past, it was very distracting, now I’m perfectly fine with regular watches. I’m glad the tech is there and it helps others, but I don’t want another screen and another device I forget to charge.
incredibly well documented. thinking of upgrading to the ultra. APPLE HIRE THIS MAN!
Im not sure if it’s because of your accent or the background music but this video seemed like a documentary style, it was awesome. Thanks.
This is easily one of the best tips video about watch ultra. Thank you ❤
This is a very helpful video for someone like me, deciding on whether to get my first Apple Watch. Excellent summary, much appreciated.
Great job on the video. I have to say this is the most useful real life use case of apple watch i've watched on KZread
An underrated feature is “unlock with apple watch” if you have a Mac. If you do a lot of work where it requires you to use your laptop in a way that keeps it idle constantly, having your watch on automatically unlocks the laptop vs having to bring your finger up to touchID or type your password in every time.
Do most folks wear the watch the way you do - i.e., with the crown on the left side of the watch? I instinctively put mine the other way since I've always worn watches that way... pros.cons?
All these features are exclusive to watch ultra or to series 9 too? Planning to switch to iOS
I'd like to know why you put the dial on the left of the watch as you look at it. Can't imagine why you would prefer that. I'm assuming you're aware that the software lets you turn the watch 180 degrees.
When you add a family member to the family setup system, how much extra do you have to pay?
Thanks your video really shows how game changing these devices are. So much more than a time piece and an accessory to the iPhone.
Good day! Is there any way to get at least whatsup notifications to watch (cellular) while using Samsung?
Excellent advice. Walkie-talkie could be a game changer for distant family. Thank you for this. Now subscribed.
Good review although the price comparison was unfair. You need to compare the stainless steel 8 series vs the ultra for a true price comparison.
does it have a simple round timer?
All of these are intuitively obvious to the average watch-user and can be done on most smartwatches (so do not require having the Ultra). I recommend that you spend more time with Shortcuts and the many third party apps which truly make this the greatest watch of all time.
Brilliant video. I am trying to go more and more without my phone but also own a Model Y. You mentioned being able to lock and unlock but do you still need your phone in order to drive the car? I don’t want to get out the keycard if I don’t have to. Thanks for any input.

I'll do a video on this in more detail but basically nope, you unlock with watch, then use remote start from the watch and off you go. It bypasses the pin too so almost less effort than with the phone!
I’ve watched a few of these videos and this is by far the best one. Well done Ben.
Great review. Really enjoyed listening to your experience and thinking behind this watch
I mainly use it for time; oddly enough .. I have the 15 minute and 30 minute timers on the dash ..
The wife and I share a shopping list on the reminders app, which we both can add too via the phone / iPad or watch, (typing or using Siri), when waking round the shops with just a glance at the watch we can check items off to help each other.
TY. Your review has pushed me to take the plunge and purchase the Ultra2!
Does the Ultra watch have a penknife included ?
Agree so munch on keeping notifications off. It's so much better to get on with life and check those when you want to. 👍🏻

@@BenVallack If it fits in the video, I'd like to hear your thoughts on the ergonomics of the trackpad as well! Also, I'm wondering if such a large monitor was chosen due to the presence of the treadmill, or if you just find that a large and far away monitor reduces eye-strain in general.
OMG I had now idea you could simply talk to your watch without triggering Siri! Game changer thank you 😃

@@BenVallack New to me too, motion detection/gesture recognition. Small cam that should be able to identify which finger is doing what. ESP32 cam module could be a start. One option - with the cam placed correctly, it should recognize movement and act as a track pad without lifting all your fingers from the home row. Like a trackball but in the air (airball?). (slider, swipe etc. many options of actions)

I’ve always wanted to try the Apple Watch. I do feel it would be so useful but I almost have to put on my reader glasses just to use my 14 pro max and I have big fingers. Lol. Old age sucks
Thats why I love my Ultra❤
Hey so this is a Keyboard Question and I thought that commenting on a newer video would be faster response time. I have an IPad but I don’t know how you use your own custom layouts on your keyboards. And is there anyway I can change the layout on my current regular Bluetooth keyboard to Colemak dh?
@BenVallack
Жыл бұрын
Always best to comment on the most related video. All comments always surface in my feed. The keyboards are all totally custom so you just set whatever layout you want on the keyboard itself. Doesn’t matter if it’s connected to an iPad or computer etc. non-custom Bluetooth keyboards (I.e off the shelf things) are probably not going to have any custom options.
*Outside of calling without a linked iPhone, which of these functions are actually unique to the Ultra itself?* 🤔
I notice you wear the watch 180 degrees opposite to me. I wear the dial on the right. Is there any reason why you do this?
@BenVallack

It was getting set off when I do things like press ups - but it actually still sets the torch off this way around as well. I think it needs a quick button and screen lock toggle somehow really.

Absolutely - the value proposition with most Apple Watches is fairly similar. Battery life and toughness are really the only justifications for the Ultra. Which is not insignificant of course.
Great video! Thank you! I would be very interested in knowing which app you are using for your Tesla? Also, it is odd to me that you have yours "turned around".....I believe Apple made the watch for the crown to face your hand and not your wrist....wondering if you find particular utility in having it the other way?

I think the risk with getting a longer strap is is might be too long to actually close then. Mine routinely hits the case when I fully loosen it - no marks on the case from that at all yet but I'm also not too worried about a bit of texture developing on this - I think it would look rugged.
