Working With Soil Blocks Again!

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Hi Folks! In this video we are beginning to plant our first veggies of 2023 season and wanted to revisit the idea of using soil blocks for most of our veggies. Join us in this video as we show a quick and easy blocking mix plus using a standup blocker to make our blocks quickly.

I can’t believe that you posted this today!!! I was just thinking last night that I wish that I had found you both a couple of years ago. What I would give to have you as mentors…to go out and work for you a couple of weeks at a time to absorb as much as I can. Summer camp for wannabe flower farmers🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️. I want to thank you for your generosity. There is no way that you are compensated for what it takes to produce these videos. Thank you!🌸💗🌸💗

Yet another excellent video. Just wondering about a comment in the video about you now being retired! Does that mean the flower production has now finished? I hope the videos don't stop. They are inspirational and therapeutic. The knowledge that Tony has with jadam is invaluable. THANK you for your contributions.

I’ve really been enjoying the soil blocking journey. It’s been fun and not too tricky. Definitely creates a super product. The 1.5 inch is so darn handy for all of my spring veg, calendula and other flowers. What I haven’t invested in, besides greensand, is the azomite and rock phosphate. Silly question, I’d like the same as the limestone, that you mentioned was in your mineral mix? I’ would tend to guess you made that mix yourself. I’d love to know more about it. I was ready to buy a $50 bag of azomite for my birthday…somehow I always talk myself out of it. Thank you all! Love how you operate! Your cat is a real beauty, too. What a great gardening buddy.

You are lucky. We are not allowed to use peat in Britain as there is a ban coming in shortly.

Have you messed around with the Winstrip trays available through Neversink Farm? They are designed to allow airflow to air prune the roots much like the soil blocks. My understanding is that they give you almost as good a plant as the soil blocks but it cuts out a lot of the labor. I just purchased some to try.

Hi, the Winstrip trays were considered a while back but, there were two considerations, the ease of purchasing and the expense. So we followed Singing Frogs model with a small amount of 6 pack trays, added to our soil blocks. At that time we couldn't get the Winstrips because Neversink wasn't selling them. We think they would work well but we are going smaller so we decided we already have the blockers and will be using those. But if today we were making that decision we would opt for trays instead of the standup blockers. Hope this is helps. Thanks for watching.

@@BareMtnFarm Thanks for the reply. Yes, this totally make sense for your application, and you're already invested. It sounds like I'm on the right track anyway. Good luck.
