    Great video! I know it's a little old now but I've just found it and it's helping me as I learn to use point clouds. One question, the point cloud tool bar is displayed when you have the point cloud selected but as soon as you start to draw lines it disappears. Do you know of a way to pin it so that it's easy to adjust the depth of a slice without losing your place in the point cloud? The project i'm working on is a tunnel with multiple sticky out bits that need to be drawn. As they're not at set intervals, but are at roughtly the same height, it would be great to keep the same view and move a slice slowly through the data, then be able to draw each bit as it appears.

    Thanks for the video. I'm starting to learn about point cloud and already have a problem. I can't select planes on my model, i already check if a have everything turn on like you have on the bottom right corner but still doesn't give me the prompt to select. Do you know why?

    Thanks for creating quality content like this. I have a question, is it possible to digitize point cloud the same way like digitize raster image but with good accuracy like snap in the right corner of building and can I have a good result of distance measurement from it? Thank you very much 🙏

    This one is a great video. I have a project, in which to convert various mechanical parts ( Gears, etc) into 3D Models. I have access to FARO Focus 3D Scanner. Is it rational, to scan individual parts and take the Cloud data in AutoCAD software and digitize / convert. - Appreciate your kind advice and Which Autodesk Suite. Thanks

    Sorry, I didn't see your comment at the time. It is all up to the end user and project to how feasible this is. The ability to extract the geometry in AutoCAD is possibly the shortest workflow. There are other routes, like taking photos of the parts and using that as an underlay in AutoCAD, or an inserted image to Inventor. In each of those cases, you will have to scale them appropriately and then trace over the images, without the ability to snap to the image.

    Hi, thanks for this video, I have one question? is possible to generate a CAD drawing with point cloud automatically? or a need to draw over the point cloud.

  • @3DSteve52

    Using the techniques from this video, you can extract AutoCAD geometry from the point cloud. However, there is nothing that will automatically create the entire drawing for you. You should be able to show the point cloud in the layout tab, but it is just a bunch of points and may not show very clearly. I hope this helps.

    Hello, how can you use a .LAS or othe raw format of cloud points into AutoCad ? is there a way to convert these into a .RCP file ?

  • @3DSteve52

    @3DSteve52

    3 жыл бұрын

    I believe there is a way to get LAS files into AutoCAD but to use the extraction tools I showed in this video, you need a structured scan. To get an RCP, you can use ReCap to combine multiple LAS files into an RCP. I have a video on that, you can find it at this link. kzread.info/dash/bejne/iJl11reeoL2um7A.html Hope this helps.

    If you run the command POINTCLOUDMANAGER, I usually just type this in at the command line, AutoCAD will open a pallet where you can control the visibility of the attached point clouds. Also, make sure that live sectioning isn't hiding the point cloud. Hope this helps, Steve

    It's a bad idea to rotate the point cloud. Suggest setting up a custom UCS if you want a orthogonal orientation.

    Even though the Point Cloud is 3D, AutoCAD drawing is still 2D based. Your shapes will go on the World Coordinate Systems XY plane unless you have created a UCS (User Coordinate System). You will most likely need to create one unless you are on the correct plane by default. If you turn on your 3D Point Snaps, and the Point Cloud Node snap, you should be able to snap to the points of the cloud, even if they are not on the XY plane of your WCS, or UCS. Hope this helps.

  • @3DSteve52

    @3DSteve52

    4 жыл бұрын

    Thanks for letting me know that you are using ACAD 2020. Autodesk tried to simplify commands in the new version. You no longer have a specific Point Cloud Attach. Now you just have the Attach command, found in the Insert tab of the ribbon. From there you can attach several different file types, including RCP and RCS which are ReCap files. You may want to turn on the Point Cloud Manager by typing "pointcloudmanager" at the command prompt. The rest of the Point Cloud tools will display if you select a point cloud that you have attached to the drawing. I hope this helps.

    I work for an Autodesk partner, this is actually a set of scans they shared with me to use in Autodesk ReCap. I don't know how long it took to scan. I think it was taken with a Leica BLK360. I have watched a couple videos about that scanner and it is a pretty quick scanner. However, I have never used one.

    At one point, AutoCAD combined several commands into one. You should look for the Attach, command under the Insert tab. That will allow for several different files to be attached. One of which will be RCP. Hope this helps.

    @3DSteve52

    5 жыл бұрын

    I am not sure what you are asking. Since you are in AutoCAD, you already have a DWG. If you are asking how to bring ReCap into AutoCAD, you have the Attach command to attach the ReCap File (RCS or RCP) into AutoCAD. If neither of these are what you are asking, please let me know and I will try to answer your question.

  • @3DSteve52

    @3DSteve52

    ReCap is only 4 or 5 years old, so it didn't exist in 2009. That is why you can't insert an RCS file into your AutoCAD file.

  • @3DSteve52

    @3DSteve52

    @@vijayabhaskark5393 I am not sure if it will work, but you could insert the RCS file into ReCap Photo, which is a separate product. Then export it to something AutoCAD can take. It will come out as a mesh, and not a point cloud. I am not in front of either software at the moment. I don't think ReCap will export anything else, but check on that first.
