What was the big issue with the cue @Cesar? Aren't the players allowed to use another cue stick, if the one they are using is damaged / tip falls off? We see players using multiple racquets in tennis and badminton and replacement bats in cricket. Is it not allowed in snooker?

  • @BhaaskarDesai

I believe players are allowed to use a different cue if the one they are playing is damaged or broken beyond repair. Players get a maximum of 15 minutes to either repair the cue or replace it with another cue. Also, the replaced cue has to be according to the standards of the Snooker rulebook. Snooker players usually play with their 'trusty' cue since they are accustomed to that particular cue action and also maybe for some it's a faith/luck factor.

The deflection and refection of each snooker cue is differrent even you buy from the same brand in the same shop made by the same guy at the same time. They allow to change but player didn't want to. If you change your snooker cue you need time to familiarize your cue maybe 1-2 week to play like your old cue, sometime you didn't play like the same with your new cue that why snooker cue is so sensitive.

Match is unique i think. 2 tips off with the top player of the world. Like 2 147's in one match? Freak and never happen again. When i played golf, we had a match with 2 holes in one from same group playing and i had one the week before i think so 2 in one match , only happened 6 times in history. Playing Snooker too for decades, i cant remember losing a tip and certainly not in a comp match. Super glue gel is thicker and i used that till i used a thick adhesive that you need to break the wood to get it off!!

Best tips in the world need replacing after hundreds of hours. The problem is snooker players dont like putting new tips on as they take a while to break in, therefore sometimes they will choose to re glue the old tip on rather than risk a brand new one. But because the old one has old dried glue on it it means when it is put back on its way more likely to come off again. After the second time you have to just suck it up and put a new one on but Ronnie kept insisting they reglue the one he was used to back on.

Ronnie will forever be the most naturally talented but to disrepect the umpire and Ross Muir that way only displayed the lack of respect he has for his craft and himself. He walked out on a Hendry match one time without even playing. Shook his hand a left. the arena. NOBODY wants to win that way. And nobody wants to feel low or compromised. For the comentators to marginalize his actions with excuses for him shows the depth the modern game has drifted down to.
