Working from home - How to set up your laptop (correctly!) | Tim Keeley | Physio REHAB

Are you now working from home? Here's a simple and easy guide to help you correctly set up your workstation at home, and stop you getting back and neck pain - when all you have is your laptop, no monitors or fancy stand up desks solutions.
I recommend you use a solid desk, a kitchen table or a bench top for standing - and get yourself a keyboard and mouse (not the sofa, bed or your lap!).
The most important aspect is getting the top of the monitor at eye height no matter whether you are sitting or standing. Have a watch to see how it's done!!

Great tips as it looks like I may be forced to work from home soon. Ordinarily I wouldn't mind but I'm down to using a laptop (not my preference) instead of my big desktop and large monitors, so these tips will come in handy. Thank you!

Thanks you and its good to see other cost effective ways to keep a good screen eye level when working. Its also good for people to Consider your laptop ventilation channels when using items which might be smaller than your laptop base. The small feet under the laptop lift them up to maintain air circulation. Also ensure the book stack is secure. Maybe try a nexstand

I have been having awful arm pain and even had a frozen shoulder. I have my laptop propped up on a shoe box but not quite high enough as I now see. I bought a separate keyboard but haven't used it. The result is that I am holding my left arm out straight typing all day. Have you heard of people having shoulder and arm issues from this? I would imagine!!

I see, adjust heigth height of your laptop with tons of books. I was actually looking for comfortable lying positions however, this works too, working positions are also needed... we used to put this many books below our laptop in online exams, and lot of books below keyboard too so examers can see our hands too. It strained wrist like shit when we were sitting. To think it was actually closer to rigth position for body, only we needed to be on our feet

    1. He sets up computer in front of a lot of windows, lots of glare at different times of the day. 2. Stacks his laptop on top of boxes.. so dog or cat or kids can knock it over. 3. didn't buy wireless keyboard.. and something is gonna get caught in that chord and pull his laptop right off the table.. My advice would be buy a bigger monitor at least 22" (your eyes will thank you). Don't set it up in a room with lots of windows and glare, and sun. Buy a mouse and external keyboard. 3. Put your laptop in a safe spot with good airflow, where its safe from being knocked over or having coffee falling on it, Its much easier to replace an external keyboard, then to fix liquid damage to a laptop. IF your using it as a desktop computer, do it right, make it as desktoppy as possible.
