You should learn WorkFlowy before doing a video about it. As a pure outliner WorkFlowy is one of the best ever. What differentiates Tana is not the outliner functions per se but the possibility of structuring data with the fields and super tags. WorkFlowy has a much better search function that allows you to filter information in a way Tana can only do with a complicated structure of fields. As a pure outliner I believe WorkFlowy is the best in the industry. It also is wonderfully simple

Thanks for providing additional context. It's true. It's as simple (pure) as an Outliner can get.

Also it was stated that reorganizing nodes in Worlkflowy has to stay in its current sectional hierarchy, but that isn't accurate. Workflowy nodes can be dragged and dropped to any part of the outline. I'm not sure if you can do it with a shortcut. Maybe you can't, but i don't know that because I use Workflowy on my phone. super tags though is super cool.

I used Workflowy for a long time, but the app hasn't progressed much. Tana is pricier, but it's actively developed with new features constantly added. Supertags is a fantasic feature, it turns a Outliner into a Knowledge Management Database!

@@idgafaboutbs I have a lot of time for Logseq but my requirements are different, I have no wish to store data locally. I'm happy with my data being in the Cloud. I don't want to have the friction caused by files and folders, I always want my data to live in a graph first and have no limit on what I can store, how much, sharing it with whom I like to collaborate on. Yes I have private data, it is stored away in a HSM, never in clear text and always with the best of security and access controls. In that way I'm happy to be device dependent, in every other way I don't wish to be.

It’s a complex topic as it’s not only the type of note-taking apps but also what note-taking types work best with your way of thinking. This is why we’ve dedicated a whole course about this topic: paperlessmovement.com/digital-note-taking-course/

⚖Obviously Workflowy is not nearly as powerful than Tana. But there's something to be said about a tool keeping things simple. Tana requires a significant learning curve, and is unnecessary for basic needs, such as tracking insights and ideas. For keeping track of projects and meetings and all associated details however, Tana is the clear choice. But depending on how our brain works, it might take days to months to "get it".

You're absolutely right! Something we've discussed also in this video: kzread.info/dash/bejne/eqF3ldeunMS_ZdY.html I my personal opinion, the sweet spot between Workflowy and Tana is Reflect notes. Easy to learn and yet much more functionality than Workflowy.

@@paperlessmovement Good to hear, and thanks for your podcast episode as well, as well as all the insights you share. I've checked out Reflect and though it feels like it doesn't quite capture my needs, it's nice to have some tools in my back pocket as my needs evolve.

@@paperlessmovement having tried Reflect(paid subscriber), I much prefer my setup in Workflowy. Fits the way I think better than Reflect. I understand the need for content, and nothing brings in clicks and comments like a good old comparison bashing one tool over another 😉. Like you keep repeating though, choose what fits your workflow and the way you work.

As a basic outliner, Tana’s learning curve is quite flat. However, there are so many powerful features, it can quickly become very steep to use them. I’ve been slowly and steadily adding to my Tana workflow for several months now, it’s taken some discipline to avoid going as deep as it allows. These far, being a great outliner with tags, super tags, and fast search features has been more than sufficient.

The best way, according to our members is to join the Tana Slack group and ask there for an invite. Usually took less than 24h for them to get an invite. Furthermore, Paco and I got a very limited number of invites which are reserved for our Inner Circle members. If this is something you’d be interested in to join, then the Tana invite would be guaranteed. For more info what this is all about: paperlessmovement.com/inner-circle-cohort/#pricing

There's so many note-taking apps and knowledge management apps now that I see so many people waste time trying to find/set up the perfect app. Meanwhile, my friend who has stuck with Evernote since the very beginning has better grades than all of us and is the top of the class.

Tana can absolutely be ground breaking in its use (my brain works best with bulletpoints/outliners... so yea... ;) ). However, no offline options make it almost impossible for me to work with it fulltime. It would be amazing, because Workflowy can and even something like Twos handles this better although it's just a bit more basic. I really don't understand why they cannot make it not freeze up when the internet connection is lost for just a few seconds.
