I worked for a company that had a policy that you had to be with the company for at least 3 months to be eligible for the end of year bonus. They brought everyone in the office team by team to resign our contracts "digitally" to just "update paperwork" in late November. Then when nobody got bonuses and we had record high production that year, we collectively asked upper management about our bonuses that we had all earned and the whole plant was told that because all our contracts were only 2 months old we didn't qualify for bonuses. Half the plant walked out.

As a public school teacher of over twenty-five years, not only have I never received a bonus. As a matter of fact, the latest administration dictate is that teachers may not accept any gifts from parents, no matter how low priced. No coffee cards, no homemade jams, no mugs, zippo. Imagine how parents feel when you turn their kindness away. It is just incomprehensible.

Here in the Netherlands you would have received a present each year, like all employees do. I even got them from the companies I did temp work for. Not giving a yearly present/bonus is highly unusual. It never happened to me in the 28 years of work, and everyone I know gets it.

  • @sanderdeboer6034

I checked and in the Netherlands teachers are allowed to take small low value presents. The policy is that in general it is better not to take them because it can lead to problems staying independent. For example when giving the indication of the level of secondary education. However in the same policy they state that sometimes refusing a gift can also be wrong because it would feel disrespectful to the parents. So it is up to the teacher to determine accepting it or not. Up until 2020 public teachers were officially government workers and were not allowed to take presents worth more than 50 euros. Now it depends on the policy of the local school. But homemade stuff is usually acceptable, except if the parent is a jeweler or gold smith themselves I guess.

I worked for a company, where they looked for some product for nearly 2 months in the warehouse before they cycled out the product. This product to make, cost the company over $300k. Retail value of this stuff was over $1.2M. They finished cycling it out, when I printed out my cycle count for the day. I found the product ONE slot over in the racking, to where it should have been (before they cycled it out). So I saved the company all this money and nearly 2 months of work to replace it, and I got a $30 Starbucks gift card .. and I don't even drink coffee.

You named it! GREED! Pure, unadulterated, American corporate greed. American CEOs are no longer content being multi millionaires - they now have to be billionaires. Who cares that the workers who bust their asses to make them rich beyond all imagination are starving? Can't afford housing, a vehicle, clothes or food (unless they work 2-3 jobs.) Because, as they raise the prices on their goods, our paychecks remain pretty much the same. Sometimes, a measly raise puts a worker in a higher tax bracket so they actually take home LESS! But you know - as long as those CEOs have that pile of money that they can't possibly spend in ten lifetimes, who cares? We should rename this country 'The Greedy States of America.' Or more accurate - 'The Greedy Divided States of North America.'

Cuz they aren't real followers of Jesus. They believe that poor people are poor because God doesn't like them or they are lazy. They "interpret" the Bible to stand against LCBTQ, women's rights, immigration, any form of gov't benefits. Jesus' only prerequisite to salvation was that we treat people with only kindness, love, and mercy. Yet one pastor said recently, "Good works are no longer relevant". Certain denominations spend 0, zero on charity or outreach. Yet , they pay no taxes. The US has allowed corporations to take over DC....money buys re-election bids, and ads. We need campaign reform, term limits, and an end or a substantial change to the Electoral College. Also anti-trust prosecutions and a fresh look at non-profit organizations, like the fringe churches.

@@jackkanoff6265 I realize that, however if they were truly making a donation on their staff's behalf they could have broken up the one large donation (deduction to the company) into a series of smaller donations adding to the same amount in each employees name (whey would have all the needed details in payroll) then each employee would at least get the deduction. That's the added insult saying your bonus was a donation on your behalf but keeping ALL of the benefit for the company.

I used to work for Apple retail. It was actually a really good job with great pay and benefits. They would usually give us Apple swag every Xmas (backpacks, hoodies, etc). Which they sell at the corporate office that’s open to visitors. And that was cool. Bc unless you were going to travel to Cupertino for Genius training or something you wouldn’t have the opportunity to get those. But my last Xmas gift was a $99 pair of beats headphones. Which was just insulting bc not only were they the cheapest beats option and something that everyone could just buy themselves if they wanted to (especially with our discount on products). But they were also wired and Apple had just gotten rid of the headphone jack so for those of us with newer phones we couldn’t even use them. It was at that moment I realized how they were probably just giving us the scraps each year of discontinued products or stuff that wasn’t selling. Bamboozled.

When I worked for the locally-owned newspaper in Aus, we received 1 full week's pay for our Christmas bonus. You only had to be working there for a year to get the full amount and if you worked a half year, you got half your pay. Murdoch took the local paper over and the next Christmas we got $20, but this only lasted ONE year then zilch. I have just seen that Coles Supermarkets here in Aus very generously gave their workers a Coles-branded plastic water bottle for a bonus.....would have better not to give them anything in my opinion.

Behind the scenes, employees are manipulated, verbally and sexually assaulted, discriminated against, the works. The company received PPP loans totaling over $1 million. Employees saw hardly any, maybe $250 each, and then the loans were forgiven. The kicker is that the loans were granted and forgiven through a bank that one of the 2 owners is a board member of. They fired me the day after xmas once they realized I had the drop on them. Never been verbally warned, written up, suspended, etc. Just came in, and they said that they've decided to let me go. They know I'm too poor to get a lawyer.
