Awesome review, and I think the main take away is that it's not only a one tool option but also just a fun trustworthy blade, I personally love the design, the steel, the heat treat and geometry, it was and is the ultimate bowie knife.

Excellent tough testing. I like this Puzon Wilderness Bowie! I always carry a big blade in the areas I hike/camp. I always watch the whole video before commenting so I can never say " 1st " : )

Thanks! I tried to give it a solid hard use test while still being fairly practical in terms of what I would use a knife like this for. Firecraft is a big part of what I do with my larger blades...so hammering through wood is a regular occurance for me!

Great video I just wish this knife was available

I know this is old but how was the edge retention after this workout? Did it dull appreciably after all this work? Seemed to struggle a bit with the finer feathersticking but I know the type of wood can have a lot do with that just as the edge geometry and edge condition can. This was a REALLY GREAT review by the way! Bravo and thank you for sharing! I will be checking out your channel and other vids for sure after this!

You absolutely positively murdered that Xmas Tree. Too bad it wasn't the appropriate "Wilderness" setting that the manufacturer promised us.

Nice vid. I like the way you didn't baby the blade in testing. I like the design. Good job reviewing the knife. How did it do in food prep?

It's overall fine for food prep, but it's a big ole blade. So it's fun for food prep, but not practical. I don't like babying knives...actually I truly enjoy the sport of hard use with blades. It's quite enjoyable to test the capability and limits. I have bent quite a number of thinner blades.

Yes, this is a very legitimate hard use review, I don't like to see people who try to break knives or see how much damage they can take that's just unrealistic and detrimental to a product

It can definitely perform! The handle is great!

Heck yeah on the Moses bowie it was designed by my good friend Jason Moses who I went to high-school with and unfortunately Ethan becker shot down the idea because he didn't design it so it was a very limited run and if you've got one hang onto it for sure!!!

It's much bigger than the PlanA. I like both. Plan A is a maybe more manageable size, but both great in their own way. I like WTG build quality better for sure.

Let's put this into perspective. Two scenarios. In both cases we get high quality G10 with high quality G10 liners. We get Japanese sourced SK85 steel. In both cases we have an American designer. In both cases the knife costs $220. But here's the scenario difference. In scenario 1) Vic Lin fabricates the knife. In scenario 2) You fabricate the knife. Which knife do I want? I want the knife Vic Lin fabricates because he is an expert. It doesn't matter where he lives. And furthermore if you do your research you'll find out that Taichung produces some very fine knives and even for your favorite knife brands. So, the "Taiwanese" part of your comment doesn't make much sense. If you question the $220 part...ok, that's reasonable to ask.

I’d rename the knife the Workout Bowie. This would make a good exercise video. The only exercise class where everyone brings a machete size bowie knife. That’s a super, no, super duper knife. I’d like to see the Puzon Bowie go up against the Ontario Marine Raider Bowie. It’d be the Grey Poupon vs Heinz Yellow Mustard mashup meetup. One of the biggest differences between the two of them would be the handle. The Puzon is obviously a very refined, in design, knife ergonomically speaking. But, how would the bargain basement compare to the penthouse in a friendly competition? I’m curious.

@@PREPFORIT I was making a humorous comparison. I own the Marine Raider Bowie. I paid $60 for it ten years ago. The Puzon is over $200. I am making a price comparison between two substantial heavy duty choppers. The biggest difference between them to me are their handles. They are similar in size, shape and metal thickness. To me they both compare relatively close in all ways except price. So, does spending $175 more for a similar knife make that big of a difference. I joke around with Eric about products in his reviews and he kids back. I enjoy that banter. It’s all in fun.

I think the Raider Bowie vs. Puzon Bowie would be a fantastic comparison. I have definitely pounded on some Ontario Knives with very good results...no damage or concern. The SP line is definitely capable of taking some abuse. You're right about ergos...Raider will undoubtedly crush the pinky...those handles always do, but for chopping and splitting? Would be fun to see.

@@outerlimitless I mean, come on!! Which knife would you rather have? Look at the Puzon, it’s obviously, tested and tried and refined and then tested, tried and further refined. Look at its features. It has a finger choil and a guard that’s designed to allow you to choke up on the blade to utilize the choil. The finish alone is finer. The handle is in a whole other class than the marine raider. The Puzon handle has been scrutinized over from a design standpoint to refine its ergonomics to better suit the user to be used for an extended period of time, comfortably. I’ve used the marine raider. It’s a great knife, but it doesn’t do your hand any favors. Blade wise, I’d be afraid of stabbing a piece of campfire wood to split the wood for fear of breaking off the raider’s fine point. The raider has a more aggressive clip that makes the tip thinner. That’s another example of how the Puzon has been tested and tried to make a better blade. The handle design and ergonomics are also higher quality and obvious from the choice of handle scales to the fit and finish of handle. The Puzon is on the other side of the tracks from the marine raider in design, ergonomics, refinement, engineering.and production. I’d much rather have the Puzon simply based on this review. I trust Eric’s reviews because he’s thorough, detail oriented and experienced. I wouldn’t expect anything less from a successful engineer such as himself.

I find the 1/4 thick and above knives not great or even good, at food prep.

I wont this blade,so hard to track down

Work tuff gear is becoming a company one does not want to support. I have messaged them multiple times and they never reply. Makes you think how effective they will be to uphold their warranty. I tried to get a Puzon splatter edition. They were sold out in 5min and only 12 went on sale. Later all my complaints got Victor Lin’s attention. He told me that only 12 units from a previous batch went on sale and I must keep in mind the splatter edition is a limited edition. They are trying to get 300 units for October. The thing is I would like to have a puzon for a up and coming survival and bushcraft trip that would be main chopper. Now I will have to settle for a knife that I dont really want. Work tuff is playing a dangerous game of being exclusive. It will their downfall.
