Work Got In The Way Of Camping! (International Steps Install)

In this episode of Wandering Wagners we traveled to Alum Creek State Park just north of Columbus Ohio because Mike has a mandatory work training/meeting in downtown Columbus. We also installed the original ‪@Internationaltruck‬ steps on our ‪@NeXusRV‬ Wraith Super C RV.
These are the steps that International puts on their chassis' and Nexus removes them and puts on their "RV" steps. We really dislike the "RV" steps as they were rusted after only a few months, they are oddly shaped and slippery, and makes it difficult to clean and get to the chassis batteries.
Chapters:
00:00 Intro
00:17 Old Steps Removal and Original International Steps Install
06:41 Arrival at Alum Creek State Park
11:25 Walking Piper
12:26 Lectric Bike Ride through the park
13:15 S'more Treats Baking
15:38 Walking Guy on Trails
16:59 Mike arrives at the RV taste test the dessert
17:50 Roosters for dinner
18:52 evening walk and campfire
20:52 Close out of trip
We had to pay $300 to Nexus to get the original steps and hardware. We picked them up at the Nexus Rally and the time has come that we can install them! It was a quick and easy switch, we did have to purchase our own washers, lock washers, and nuts. Once we took off the old steps we power washed the area with the ‪@BLUETTIOfficial‬ AC200MAX and it worked great!
The new steps went on without issue and we left to go on a trip soon after.
We went to Alum Creek State Park ‪@OhioStateParks‬ where we stayed with some friends Dave and Andrea‪@FollowingtheFitchs‬ , Bill and Val, Mike and Melanie, and Matt and Debbie.
Mike had to go to a work training/meeting during the day so i was left to my own devices. I walked the dogs separately, and decided to cook Mike a sweet treat for his return from work! I made golden graham smore treats. Golden Grahams, marshmallows, and chocolate chips! They were a big hit! I hiked with the dogs, and rode my ‪@LectriceBikes‬ XPremium around on the chilly Fall weekend.
We went to have dinner at Roosters, had a great campfire with laughs and overall it ended up being a great trip.

Okay finally got through to Nexus Parts. They will no longer sell the steps. They sent out to the International Dealer, who pull the build list for the VIN and came back with Black Powder Coated Aluminum Steps. That dealer was nice enough to recommend I use my local International Dealer. Who priced the steps for me. ~$225/step and yes you need 4. Navistar Part Number is 3578201C1 for the steps. My local team then found aftermarket for ~$90/step (I found similar on line for ~$65-$80 plus shipping. So they are ordering them. Then there is the two spacers you need for the passenger side. Each one of those was ~$160/each. Plus the bolts and nuts, final cost is just shy of $900. And YES I ordered the parts and we are still doing it. Because the original steps look better.. Thanks for leading the way on this project.

I've replaced/ upgraded all my Self Tapping Screws on my rig with Nutserts. Makes life easy and no need to back up a nut on the unreachable underside to tighten. And the best part is if you strip out the threads in the Nutserts all you need to do is drill out the Nutsert like a rivet and pop in a new one replace it. If those were my steps I think I'd be tempted to raise up that bottom step by bolting in a 1" square tube spacer between the top of the bottom bracket and the bottom of the step to lessen the distance between the first step and the second step. But my wife is only 5'2". The premise is to equalize up the distance between the distance one needs to raise their legs to get in the cab.

I think the truck steps are an improvement over the nexus steps which are fugly. I personally would look for something else but not sure what, but here is the thing the only person who needs to be happy is Lynn cause she is the boss and it is your rig at the end of the day so you have what you like and be happy, enjoy your camping and stay safe getting out in that cold weather, 48 that is like early morning in January cold. Working on the weekend sucks but it has to be done some times.

Like you guys I'm not a big fan of the sheet metal steps. Not so much for aesthetic reasons but because they are so loud on rough roads and they are really slippery when wet. The non-skid stuff needs to go to the outside of the step not be a half inch in. I've thought about going to the steps too, maybe I'll do that. I will probably go to stainless bolts so they don't rust. I don't know what MIke brought home there at the end, but I don't think it's going in the Wraith. Keep the good stuff coming guys.
