    It is definitely not just about cheap labor because at my job for instance even thou i was getting paid $13 the Americans were getting like 10 plus there are high paying jobs out there like $20+. It also does not have to do with Americans not wanting low paying jobs but they can't secure employee loyalty and dependence for the season and even some of the places have a older age demography where they cannot get employees. There are even some islands that are only opened during the summer season. On dependence, we would work ever hour of the day while when the Americans get any chance to go home they take it, they call out frequently and don't perform as well as us. Plus they can always call us in and we are available unlike Americans that have a life and would not devote themselves during that period to the job.

    Great breakdown..... what is the cultural exchange like?

  • @NasEllis

    @NasEllis

    8 ай бұрын

    It was definitely a mixture of good and bad. Good in that I got to meet persons from various countries and learn from them and teach stuff about my own culture too. Bad in that you learn some of the not so nice aspects of working in another country where you’re not a first class citizen. Ultimately though, everything is a learning experience and I’d def recommend the program :)

  • @lilromi
    @lilromi8 ай бұрын

    The actual reason for the programme is for a "cultural exchange" but that's what the J1 visa is defined as anyways

    Yea I should’ve mentioned that as well but I just know that its “true” purpose gets drowned out most times. That aspect of it was good too. Thanks for watching btw!

    Hopefully you are okay, Nas You did a great job explaining everything i needed. I just want to ask about how to get a second job, i get it through the agency or after i travel to USA and apply with myself? The second job is also from 32-40 hours or it will be like part time jobs? Thanks in advance

    Not sure if some agencies help with the second job but generally the second job is completely up to you and typically you wait until you’re in the U.S. so I advise you start your first job for a little, determine your schedule so you can ensure to find a second job that doesn’t interfere. As for the time, it’s possible you can get 2 jobs being 32-40hrs per week but for me my second job was slightly less.

    Between Maryland(Montgomery or Frederick), North Carolina and Virginia, which would you suggest?

  • @NasEllis

    @NasEllis

    6 ай бұрын

    I’m not sure tbh, research the pros and cons of each or keep asking around. I know ones like North Carolina for example have a low cost of living but then the downside is that you might not have great hourly rates 🤷🏽‍♀️

    How much is the rent per week ans what is average cost for food and transportation per week please answer

  • @NasEllis

    @NasEllis

    6 ай бұрын

    This all depends on where you are tbh but my rent was US$125 weekly. For reasonable food prices, Walmart is good. I didn’t take much transportation since I lived walking distance from my jobs but to get groceries nearby, the uber ride was like $10 or so, I don’t remember. Sometimes u can take advantage of the public transport system that’s usually super cheap like $3/$5 for a day pass depending on the state. The key is to budget.

    Do you have to have money on the bank before applying and if yes,how much

  • @NasEllis

    @NasEllis

    6 ай бұрын

    Uhh they don’t ask to see a bank statement if that’s what you mean but yea to apply, I’d say you’d need around US$3000 or more to cover application fee, placement fee, visa application and flight expenses. It’s also advised to go up with some cash since you won’t get paid right away
