WordPress Speed Build Challenge - Rich Tabor vs Jonathan Jernigan

Ойын-сауық

The WordPress Speed Build Challenge is a fun live streamed event, hosted on my KZread channel, where two people battle it out against the clock and each other to replicate a website design in just 30 minutes.
Rules of the game:
Players try to replicate a website in 30 minutes
Players can use any tools or techniques of their choice (eg. Gutenberg, Bricks, Divi, Custom code, Anything goes!)
I choose the design they have to replicate
Players have 5 minutes thinking time before they start building
They both try to replicate that design
After 30 minutes viewers choose the winner (I have the casting vote)

Loved watching the challenge, especially Rich using the Guttenberg editor, he showed how powerful and flexible it is, compared to other themes/site builders. I even learned a couple of new things. Can't wait for 6.6

It was a very profound and different experience. Both of them were great. Rich showed us that soon we will be able to do everything we can do with elementor or other pagebuilder and more with block editor. thanks jamie, jonathan and rich ❤👌

This episode was excellent, showcasing two outstanding educators and esteemed members of the WordPress community. I often enjoy Permaslugs' content, and in this case, watching Rich Tabor's with his active involvement in the Gutenberg Project was especially engaging, providing a glimpse of upcoming features and workflow of full site editing.

I catch the episode in the last minutes of the live version, so i rewind, and try do the site. Was fun just hear the voices. Also in all episodes iam seeing a pattern. Every single one of the participants strugle with the challenge. Is fun to see, expert of automatic or whatever tool decide to use, have the same problems everyone of us have, even the ones are responsible for the product have this problem. For me is a relive, because even the greatest WordPress educators and developers have problems with the new block system (i know its not new) as me. Thanks Jamie, for this Speed Build Challenge, and long live to them. See you next time. Regards from Patagonia, Argentina

Everything can be done with the Block Editor. The only problem is that the child Columns of a large Column do not have the "RADIUS" option, so they cannot be rounded. 😅

Amazing video again! Love these live streams. Makes me consider Generate Blocks and being excited for 6.6. It would be so awesome if we could have a theme, that is unopinionated, but allows you to add styles via the Gutenberg UI into themes.json. An FSE Theme UI builder. Secondly, it's such a shame that spacers needs to be used to improve the UX of adding spacing around, that should be added for the padding/margin. Some tools offer a way of editing it, but it feels janky at times. Any way, love it! Kudos and we should have more WP team members in the stream

Thanks Lex - the core blocks do now have margin and paddings controls - i believe Rich added spacers because a) it was quicker for this challenge and b) it's easier for clients to amend if needed (than having to search for where margin has been added).

@@jamiewp Soon it Will support negative to 😁. My remark was about b, it’s a shame that there is no visual indication of changing the margin / padding just like the spacer option. It’s a ux challenge, but I am confident that it can be solved by the WP team 😁. I’ll also love to explore how others solve this just for entertainment

@@jamiewp Yeah, I know, which is an improvement, but is it the most intuitive version for adding padding and margin? I don't believe it is. Greenshift has a solution. This is not perfect, but it is a little better regarding UX. You see the changes where you are editing, secondly, I don't have to search for my padding/margin in the side panel. kzread.info/dash/bejne/X4OEmaeJmrupfbg.html Many tools have different solutions, but I don't know which is the best solution for changing the padding, margin, height, and width (perhaps borders), all within 1px of each other.
