Services between Worcester and Birmingham via Kidderminster along the Snow Hill line usually operate at a 2 trains per hour frequency with most services operating from Worcester Foregate Street throughout the day and most services in the morning and evening operating from Shrub Hill. Most services from Worcester on this route do not call at Blakedown, Lye, Old Hill or Langley Green but some services like this one call at all stations. Most services continue through Birmingham alternating to Whitlocks End or Dorridge via Birmingham Moor Street. Additional Snow Hill line services operate from Kidderminster and Stourbridge towards Birmingham with some continuing to Stratford-Upon-Avon. Faster services from Birmingham to Worcester operate every hour via Bromsgrove in to Birmingham New Street.
Almost all services on this route are operated by West Midlands Railway, usually class 172 Turbostar but Chiltern Railways operate some peak services between Kidderminster and Birmingham towards London Marylebone. Great Western Railway operate between Worcester Shrub Hill and Foregate Street. Cross Country also operate a very limited services on this route between Langley Green and Worcester Shrub Hill (from New Street) but these services run non stop Birmingham to Cheltenham Spa and mainly operate in case this route has to be used for diversions.
This route is entirely unelectrified with no current plans to change this so it will remain diesel operated for quite a long time, although new class 196 CAF Civity will operate some services on this route when they enter service. This route is also 2 tracked throughout. Between the Hawthorns and Birmingham Snow Hill this route runs alongside the West Midlands Metro line 1 which is electrified and interchange can be made at The Hawthorns and Jewellery Quarter.
