📌 Jackie & Shadow tend to stay in BB year-round. They hang out a lot after first being away, then do cool eagle stuff on cam 2. We often see them on perch trees and roost trees, and they sometimes even visit the nest. Jackie and Shadow stay in the general area, somewhere near the lake, year-round. 📌 Bald Eagles can live as long as 30 years. Jackie is a very young eagle. She has many years of egg laying ahead of her. Hens can lay their entire lifetime if they are healthy.
📌 Jackie is about 12 years old in Spring of 2024. She took over the Big Bear nesting territory in the fall of 2016. Fledglings: 2018 Stormy JR1 w/Mr.B; 2019 Simba ZR1, 2022 Spirit w/ Shadow.

📌 Shadow is about 10 years old in Spring of 2024. He took over the Big Bear nesting territory in the summer of 2018. Fledglings: 2019 Simba ZR1, 2022 Spirit w/ Jackie.
📌 Spirit is Jackie’s only living offspring. There is no way to ID Spirit at this point. She fledged on 5/31/22 and was last seen in the area 6/24/22. bit.ly/3KAdL3B

🦅 This is a live bald eagle's nest. The nest is extremely difficult to access: no road, rugged terrain, 145-foot-tall tree with the nest near the top, especially in the winter, with snow as another barrier. The nest is built 145ft up in a Jeffrey Pine tree ~7100ft ASL, one of the highest elevation Bald Eagle nests in the US! It is measured ~5 1/2’ wide and 6’ deep bit.ly/3PoSmP6
🦅Our cam is an Axis PTZ (pan, tilt, zoom) system, 100% solar powered. Learn more about what it takes to climb the 145-ft Jeffrey Pine tree to perform camera maintenance. Only a few arborists are qualified/experienced enough to ascend to the nest without damaging the tree or any of its habitats.
🦅The cams are installed in a remote forest & are 100% solar powered. During & after adverse weather events, you may experience live feed interruptions on both cams.

🦅The nest is illuminated by IR (infrared) light at night. The light is not visible to the eagles/humans, it is only visible to the cameras. Why the eagles cannot see it bit.ly/3klors9
🦅Strong sustained winds and wind gusts are not uncommon in the mountains (~7100 ft ASL). Our nest has withstood wind gusts in excess of 80 mph over the years, sustained winds - in excess of 40 mph
