Woody Harrelson on work and weed

Actor Woody Harrelson is as well-known for his affinity for cannabis as he is for his versatility on TV and in movies. He's currently starring in the Oscar-nominated "Triangle of Sadness," and the new sports comedy "Champions," about a prickly but charming basketball coach who finds himself leading a team of players with intellectual disabilities. Turner Classic Movies host Ben Mankiewicz talks with Harrelson about fulfilling his dreams: both to inspire an audience, and to co-own a dispensary.

I always like to hear about weed and productivity for people. I used to get high all day and get things done, but eventually it just got to the point where it made me too lazy and I had to cut it out. I also can't smoke in moderation for whatever reason. If I have it, I'm pretty much high until it's gone. I still smoke from time to time, but I don't keep it around anymore. I wish I could still be a stoner as an adult, but I have to be honest with myself and the truth is I like myself more when I'm sober. It's different for everyone, but I think for many people who aren't happy with their lives it's something that gets in the way of changing things. After I stopped smoking I got an English teaching certificate and now I'm a world traveller. Statistics are more important than individual stories, but I love my life right now and personally I was satisfied with with living in a mediocre way when I was high all the time. It took quitting to learn what possibilities were out there and to take action on one of them. Just some food for thought.

Same here, but since quitting six or seven months ago, I get even less done. I might have POTS or "covid long hauler" though - frequent vertigo, rest a lot, little interest in doing anything. I used to play guitar and sing almost every day and had just started writing songs a couple years ago. In the first month after I quit, I had more energy than I could deal with a produced one song and one commercial parody video easily. Since then though, I've barely touched a guitar (except when I got high once, which wasn't fun at all), and only produced a few semi "stop motion" videos. I wonder if my spark will ever come back - at least, without sparking up again regularly.

@@Wombat86dkdk If you're looking for an argument you won't get it from me. I'm in the center of the political spectrum, I've never owned a gun and have no desire to do so. Also, my views on gun laws have frequently fluctuated but as of right now, as an American citizen and veteran I swore an oath to honor the constitution despite personally not being a supporter of guns. Do with that what you will. I also think it's reasonable to consider the objectively verifiable correlations between gun crimes and the collective mental health of American citizens. After becoming aware of this, it's more than reasonable to assume that changes can be made to improve the mental health of Americans and honor the constitution. To me that seems like a win win for everyone but as all of us know, our leaders never make the changes that result in a win for everyone, instead they make the changes that result in a win for their ego and pockets and watch everyone else suffer more as a result. That might seem bitter but it's actually the nicest way of putting it that I can think of. But yeah anyone with an above average IQ and without excessive bias would address the root cause of these terrible things, the root cause is undeniably the failure to recognize, diagnose and successfully treat mental illness. This isn't even up for debate, the cause is mental illness and highly destructive behavior is the result. It just is. Again, I'm not a conservative, I've never been one but both sides of the political spectrum can be right or wrong about different issues and I guess I've just always been able to objectively recognize it. Though I doubt this will change your views, maybe nothing can at this point, I still think you should make an effort to atleast consider some of the things I said mostly because I'd like for you to see the truth and I think you can only benefit by doing so.

Champions sounds like a good movie. This took me on a trip down memory lane of me when I was in middle school and high school and even as an adult. Sure I was cool with almost everyone but most of my friends were special needs and I'm still friends with some of them now and even best friends with some so that's pretty cool. Just watching that one clip reminded me of one of my former hs teachers who was like a father to me. Also, him doing the Elvis impersonation reminded me that I have done similar impersonations in the past and was the kid that was almost always singing and dancing in school.

Weed really isn’t the issue, it’s the individual and their use. T.V, video games, social media, food etc are all things that are innocuous by themselves but can be extremely harmful depending on the individual and their usage. I don’t think weed should be marketed as completely harmless because it’s not, but you can smoke weed & be completely functional and productive. You also can be sober and a menace to society.

@@LifesongAcademy Weed doesn’t have to be smoked to be ingested. I stand by: “weed itself isn’t the issue, it’s the individual and their use.” Also, I’m not of the belief that everything a human does has to be healthy. Health is not morality and we’ll all die anyways. There are also people who do everything “perfect” and still have health issues, while people who are “unhealthy” seem to live their life unimpeded. There are certain things in life we have to accept people are going to do, and we just have to create boundaries accordingly.
