It's a really cool video, I just don't know how useful it is since most people don't have access to 15 grand worth of tools to repeat it

So what you didn’t see was version 5 and 6. This can be done with a $10 saw. What I love about woodworkers is their ability to adapt and modify and come up with their own solutions!

Can buy sheets of different veneers at most craft stores and make your own plywood with that. Then it's just simple cut, glue, and sand. Multiple ways to do it, even without the power tools.

I’m actually looking into making a second video using a limited budget and tools. 😁
Glow forge wins Like your new background.
Very Very great idea and explications... Thanks from France 😊🙏🏽
I love all of the Walnut recently! So classy, and it really pops against that sweet maple work bench.
You could use a old bandsaw blade, with the teeth ground off, for a spring. Awesome work. I love the plywood idea.
CNC Music Factory!! Great video! Even if someone didn't want to make a business card holder there are so many different things covered here that surely someone could find inspiration to do something.
I used to have a metal business card holder similar to this that I used as a wallet for cards only. Can’t wait to have a go at this. Thanks DP
Love when you show multiple methods! Love hearing you talk about the podcast. Back when I was just getting into this community I found out about Making It from one of your videos. Keep up the good work!
I love that you show there’s many ways to get the same result. Doesn’t mean ones wrong, just different. I come across this in construction ALL the time! This has been added to my to do list. Another great video
Been rocking a front pocket wallet for about 25 years. I never realized you were extremely smart! Keep on keeping on.

Hahaha! Made the switch about 5 years ago. Shortly thereafter my life changed.
That hose clamp definitely makes it look gnarlier in a rugged, sick way!
I really like the walnut plywood. So many small decorative things could be made from this. The collar spring is brilliant too.
Great variety in techniques! Some really good trouble shooting and design concepts in this build. Your cards are sweet too!
Nice build David, I'm still racking my brain for a spring idea. Thanks for sharing.
These were awesome! I've been needing to make something like this, thanks for sharing!
I loved how you replicated the design across different maker styles, different tools
Nice video David. Great energy ! I love making it podcast with Jimmy-2-shows and Pocket-holes-Bob !
I have a long spiral spring from an old clock, very flexible, hardened and thin; I cut pieces of that when I need. Good idea that sticker cards ! Thanks for sharing !
Great video! Love the hose clamp idea. I was surprised the rake didn't work. The one clip idea sounds like a good one too! everyone has pens that don't need a clip.
Nice job! I really liked how you showed 4 different techniques, and the homemade walnut plywood was really cool!
Now that’s something I need! Since I don’t have a CNC, laser cutter or 3D printer your first method is what I’ll use. I’m thinking of using maple for the center piece of the veneer or perhaps use some scraps of the curly maple I gave for the outside and contrasting it by using walnut for the center piece. Maybe, since I have two businesses I’ll use both ideas.
Love it!! Awesome project dude!!
Nice with the sticker!!!! LOL, I threw my little idea out there to you & your other subscribers BEFORE I got to the part of your video where you asked for our ideas, 🤣🤣😁...
I wish i had a cnc machine they seem so fun to use and watch
The sticker/business cards are such a brilliant idea!
Now that was some instant gratification. Listened to the podcast this morning and got to see the result of the brainstorming immediately after! Nice job!

Thanks for listening and watching!
Loved seeing all the different ways to make basically the same thing!
They all look so good! I can't believe that hose clamp did so well. Good thinking on that!
Love this project.
It's awesome to see how the same concept cab be built multiple ways!
Awesome work David. I just finished listening to the podcast and realized that this video was up. I like the diy plywood
I made a solid wood wallet like this with a leather strap & snap but it cracked & I was so bummed! But now thanks to this video I’m making another one out of plywood! Awesome video as usual dude!
Great project!!! Enjoyed seeing the same project 4 different ways. It made it accessible to all makers... unless they are trolls... now, if only you had 4 pockets for your business cards.
Nicely done, David!
Sticker business cards! that's so awesome! Great video!!!! hope you have a great weekend!
Love the Video! They look fantastic!
I've seen people make springs out of the wood. It seems to work pretty well for them. I cant recall any specific videos or what they were doing, but it works i promise.
Very cool! I liked seeing different techniques. There are always multiple ways to do things. Great vid.
Really cool video. The plywood especially is really cool.
Love the video. The only addition I would make would be to use some flocking on the spring device to prevent damage to the card and also improve the look when it’s empty...
Awesome work dude! I might make one of these myself.
Great, now you have one for each pocket! 8 X 4 = 32 business stickers to hand out!

That's a cool idea! Definently need to try this
Awwww. You beat me to it. I was working on this before Maker Faire! Looks great!

We both should have had ours done before Maker Faire!
Those business card holders came out great! I recently made a business card holder that has a hinging lid. It was such a fun project and by far my most viewed video. I did recently drop it though and the walnut I used broke in a spot. It's fixable, but I'm probably going to use the plywood idea for my future designs. Nice work!
Walnut sandwich I wonder if it taste as good as a Nutella sandwich. Awesome videos new to your channel and great projects you make. Something for everyone. Lol walnut sandwich
Love the sticker business card! Thanks for the different approaches; it’s cool to see some variants on an idea from a creative perspective.

I actually have made quite a few custom business card holders lately. Epilog laser ftw!
I love how your videos always make me smile!
Awesome video brotha. I'm a welder and now I'm going to make one out of aluminum. Thanks for the idea
Great video. I love your multiple solutions videos. We are all different and have different tools. Very inspiring.
I honestly love seeing use the tools I don't currently have access too. It gives me something that I want to work up too and damnit it's cool as hell.
3 spring ideas: First: A bit of actual spring steel from an old wind-up egg timer or alarm clock. B: A sliver of bamboo, either cut from the actual curve of the tube-shape of the wood and sanded thin, or for long-grain, a thin sliver that you steam-bend (hey, thicker bamboo holds a steam-bent shape in a backscratcher, so should work for a sliver). Three: A bit of clear plastic, cut from the curve of a bottle of hand soap, clear-plastic canister of Twizzlers, bubble-card plastic, etc.
Nice work David! 👍👊
Really awesome build - I couldn't wait to check this out after hearing about you guys talking about this on your podcast.Love how you made your own thin veneer out of walnut too.

Thanks Bryan for listening and watching!
On my micro RC rock crawlers I use retractable key clip springs for my leaf springs. They are tiny and obviously made of spring steel. Would work perfectly in this situation!
awesome idea! gotta keep those cards sharp!
"CNC Music Factory Machine" I think that in my head whenever I watch a CNC video. So happy someone finally said it! I thought it was just me.
Great video! I might make some of these
I love this. Totally cool that you showed 4 different methods.

Cool project and I like the way you show several ways to acomplish the same outcome. I like the new shop. Keep'm coming
Ball detents! This old Tony style!
Great simple project combined with your energetic presentation of the work makes it so enjoyable to watch!

If you can still find those little metallic cricket clickers/noise makers you can use the spring clicker (?). I think we bought a bag at a party supply store for my son's 5th birthday.
Good stuff
Awesome video!!! I’m really digging the I’ll show you 2,3, or ten different ways to make this, no more well if I only had a xyz I could do that too lol. Such a great inspiration my friend.

Thank you!!
Its good to see that you still sand in the place where you live... I feel like it's been a while since you've done that lol
Awesome! I really need a business card holder and this is a perfect idea. It was nice meeting you at maker faire!

Hey! It was nice meeting you as well! Keep up the great work!
Great mood Picciuto 👍🏻
Very nice!! To answer your question how would you make a spring? Use steel banding. I own a sheet metal shop and the sheet come on a large pallet banded with steel strapping. The strapping is coated so it won’t rust great light duty spring material. Keep up the great work. Always inspiring!!!
Liked purely for “sand in the place where you live”
#NASTYASSRAKE! I about spit my drink out. Thanks for another awesome video and keeping them all fun. Love your channel bud!
Could sand/grind down the aluminum strap to make it more flexible. I like the look of the hose clamp though. Rugged like someone else said. Would just need to keep a sacrificial card in the back because im sure it would get chewed up over time. Or maybe put a piece of packing tape over it. Great job on all 4 methods!
sweet build!! When I heard this project on the podcast, I was hoping you were gonna do a hinged one like a cassette case.
I really love the 4 different techniques. Maybe sand the aluminum to be thinner?
I would steam-form a strip of that plywood to make the spring. Keeps continuity in the build and is less likely to damage the cards.
For the spring, maybe bust apart a cheap or broken tape measure, or buy a constant force spring from McMaster if you are doing a bunch.
#nastyassrake #respectthewalnut #respecttheglasses #sandintheplacewhereIlive Awesome vid! Thanks!
I have used a cut off piece of steel banding for a light spring. An inexpensive feeler gauge set will provide different amounts of springiness depending on thickness.
@cpepper5702
6 жыл бұрын
Roy Reynolds a feeler gauge is a good idea! Good thinking man! See??? BRAIN STORMING! I love our community 😍 lol
Nice video, never would have thought of a hose clamp as a spring, putting that in the brain vault for later.
Many, many years ago, when every thing was made out of wood (think wooden wheels and wooden teeth), they actually made springs (for pressure like this, not coil springs) out of thin pieces of wood. That way you can continue the wood theme.
I made this project with modifications for strips of double sided tape I use frequently at work. The really big hose clamps have large sections of metal without the holes if you are concerned about the aesthetic. So it looks clean like the aluminum but more springy than the aluminum.
I'd use a thin strip of spring steel to hold the cards. Just like the ones used for holding parallels against vise jaws on a mill.
Doing a great job. Getting ready to fire off my own channel. You are a big reason for that. I'm a music guy as well as a wood worker. Keep up the great content bro. Peace.
Food for thought. When you made the one with the hose clamp, you "could've" put two pieces (Two, to distribute the clamping pressure) of hose clamp inside, one towards each end that way they would not be seen when you gave out your last card. Just a idea...
Cool project👍 You could have used band saw blades as springs🤔
Stink Bug. You could have made a video called "How to make your own Walnut plywood" The card holders turned out great.
Cool project. For the 3D printed version you could have printed the spring as well.
Hey, look guys at all the fancy expensive tools I have! Much of what you do can be made with hand tools and a little bit of imagination and skill. You gave me some ideas (thanks) but I'm still struggling with displaying my cards so I know which one to pick (I'm looking for a design for credit cards, not business cards). Perhaps a piece of foam runner would act as a spring?
@MakeSomething
Жыл бұрын
I could give some suggestions but I’m too busy looking at all my fancy tools!
Now I’m hungry for a walnut sandwich.
For the spring clip I was thinking a thin piece of metal, (like your second choice), with a spring at the bottom between it and the back. A little more complicated because of drilling a seat for, and/or just gluing the spring to the back, but the metal would be solid and could be polished to a bright shine.
You should get an app that I could listen to the pod cast on.
David, sould be awesome if you used a wood filament for the 3d printed version :)
‚Walnut sandwich‘...and now I’m hungry 😄 Also: that rake looked creepy. Like a spider. Cool project though!
I made one using thin textile rubber-band to hold cards and glue into between the plywood layers...
C&C Music Factory!!! LMAO! So funny!
Awesome project, what would your thoughts on using metal banding? It's thin usually made with spring steel.
For springs maybe talk to your tattoo artist and see where they get their spring steel? Assuming she or he uses a traditional machine and does the upkeep themselves.
Use spring steel... easy source is find a place that gets in metal banding straps and tosses them. Typically a tempered spring steel, more than likely free and you can adjust the temper in your oven.
