Erm, yeah. But there's a hole in the bottom. Check 13:53 and you can see the blue paper through the hole.

Russian Olive is not an Olive tree. So no it is not Olive wood, but it is Russian Olive. An invasive species growing all over the American West. Not my favorite wood, but it is a "free" hardwood that i have truckloads of. You have done a good job bringing out some character in an otherwise boring wood.

Nice work Villy. Any wood turner who hasn't had a catch (or one hundred catches!) is not a wood turner. I recently turned a nice small bowl and could see a hint of daylight through the base so I filled the mortise with Araldyte (two part epoxy resin) mixed with sawdust.

I just love olive wood and you have a very pretty olive wood bowl Villy. Fuzzy one too until it's haircut, eh😁 Nice shape, no, great shape that I like very much😃 And such thin walls - were they hard to do ? I had a bowl I caught the inside wall on so it ended up very thin too, hmm. I take it you finished up with the carbide because the gouge got bent, right ? (I was too scared to use my catchy tool for a while. hehehe.) Stay safe. -Mike😷

I am at the point where I am about to buy a lathe and start this new hobby. One question. Is it best to put wax first then the oil, or other way round? Second question. Do you think I can use Danish oil or boiled linseed oil on my turning projects?

at first, you shouldnt start with bowles...

I would say oil first and then wax after the oil has fully dried. I started of using a oil similar to boiled linseed oil but then moved on to using a all natural danish oil (Organoil danish oil)for a mat finish, a quick drying sanding sealer from U-beaut and a friction polish (U-beaut polishes - ultra shine).

Go for it Philip !! You'll be hooked on the hobby. You'll have beauty, self-fulfillment, sense of doing, a community with you, and of course a healthy respect of teeth that lurk in the wood😁 Just kidding. No you're not. Yes I am. Whatever ... be very careful ... if it doesn't feel right stop and think about it. Finishing - ask 10 people about how to finish and you'll get 20 different replies. I tend to do wax as the last coat. Oils don't shine. Almost anything else can be brought to a gloss. BTW, nothing will be a permanent barrier to moisture. Wood moves. Stay safe. -Mike😷

You wasted so much wood choosing to turn it in that orientation. Could have made beautiful boxes of natural edge bowls instead of a shiny bucket.
