woodturning :large plate in resin and segmented wood
woodturning: large plate in resin and segmented wood
I make a large plate or fruit bowl with epoxy resin and segmented ash wood.
As we can see on the video the segmented rings are assembled in a bed of black resin thus giving depth to the room.
No pieces of wood are in contact with each other, all "float" in a bath of bright colors highlighting the grain of this pretty white ash. To make this plate I use very little epoxy resin, I prefers make precise and waterproof molds so as to minimize the use of resin.
Finally, I protect and nourish the whole with Tung oil.

I thought those little spacer pieces were a ridiculous unnecessary complication. How wonderfully wrong I was. This is one of the better and ingenious segmented works I've ever seen. Great job!

Hi Morgan, Enjoyed watching your video I'm new to wood turning in some respects never really done any epoxy resin but have made furniture dining tables chairs, various windows and doors over the past 40 years I live about 6Km from Argentat in a Old Moulin which I have converted into a dwelling over the last 7 to 8 years at this point I must apologise I am English and cannot speak French or even read it I'm retired in my late 60s living by myself , I have a little workshop, which is very cramped as I have a large separate Planer and Thickness and spindle moulder , and a Watkin RS pattern make a lathe, all jammed into my basement it is a bit tight as my business/workshop in the UK my workshop was about 7 to 8 m wide and 35 m long are used to work by myself , The Last 10 years making specialist doors and windows mainly on Barnes conversions, , I have a river/stream running alongside my property and I occasionally pull out old bits of wood that I've come down from the mountains which I think will look nice set in Resins and turned at some point , anyway that is enough about me I've had a look at your things you have made over the years I look very impressive keep up the good work obviously as you know it's very bad in England and in France moment with a virus so I do not travel very far stay safe facemask and Head shield on ,. You are such a mad genius! Your work, precision innovation are inspiring! Thank you for all your efforts and sharing your journey with us all. Question please. Not that I would ever try to learn or try anything you demonstrate 😁, but. I'm very curious about that drum sanding thingy. Is there a video on that? I'm not finding one but would love to see more. Hi Morgan I would love to send pics, me not very good with computer to send pics, me good with hands I think, or so I have been told , 🍂👴🗜🚪. And yes the region is very good it's got the autumn feel about it now beautiful colours in this in the trees from the leaves 🍃, i'm a property that runs along the side of the river for about nearly a 1/4 of a mile , just after January this year I pulled out two bits of oak that I think I've been in the river I think part of a bridge or some structure that has been in the water for quite considerable time as they worn away. I think when they are dried out that could look quite amazing set in resin and then been turned. And about three weeks ago we had some high winds the farmer owns the property or the land on the other side of the river one of his trees came down across the river took one of my trees out and blocked the road that only goes to my property so out came the chainsaw made clearance but found a couple of nice piece wood with some lovely grain init , so I can see another project for two or three more bits of wood in a few years time when I dried out, . Cordialement, kenavo, Jean-Luc
@bawbreizhartwood
@bawbreizhartwood
). Merci Patrick.
@bawbreizhartwood
