Great idea. Great work. You know, I'm going to put a big precious diamond inside the top (the brown handle), while placing inside the box a map showing the diamond's location farthest at... Antarctic. Hihi... For fun. A simple lesson I' ve learnt that the most valuable things sometimes are staying nearest. (Your pieces can speak a lot.)

Bravo, a beautiful piece! Understood that this was about using scrap firewood, but as with earlier commenters, I think a lid with a more contrasting (darker) colour and then perhaps a light finial would be very attractive. Now that you have shown what can be done with the firewood, you could do a video more about design, and make a new lid and finial to take most advantage of that beautiful piece of beech.

I like your choices of spalted beech, and wenge, but I'm not sure I like the yew, for the lid. Even though it is a lovely colour, to my mind, it distracts the eye from the main piece. Beautiful turning, by the way!

Alas, the piece was made from firewood so my choice was defined by the offcuts. Thanks for the feedback though Steph 😉👍🏻
Nice bit of beech. Seen a few trailers loaded with firewood being delivered locally, always wish I could have first dibs before they chop it up! Like the shape of the beech, most of the bowls I make now seem to end up that shape, feel good in the hand and show off the grain. Thanks for sharing, though it’s frustrating to turn all day and watch someone do it better to relax..!
