Woodturning - Beautiful Burr Elm !! ( no mid roll ads )
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
I've had this weird shaped piece of Burr Elm knocking about the workshop for a couple of years, so thought it was about time I came up with a use for it ..

wood cast in clear resin is such an underrated and underutilized combination. i think the distorting and magnifying effects of the clear resin provide much more interest than mica powders or other colorants. would love to see more projects like this!! 👍

100% agree!!! Mica powders are beautiful, but they remind me of shampoo. The clear resin is so refreshing...like clear water!
Really like the clear resin on this, shows the wood off perfectly. Did not think it was going to be a lamp…brilliant!
You can take a lump of nothing and produce a beautiful piece of art off the top of your head, whereas I can have a pantry full of ingredients and still bore myself to tears having cereal for dinner because I can't figure out what to make. 😂🤷♀️😉

Beautiful!! ❤ My favorite aspect of these vids is not finding out what they are until the very end

Glad I'm not the only one who finds it impossible to guess from most of the initial chunks what the final beautiful outcome will be! 🤭 So often I watch the intermediate steps thinking "Huh...?" It's like a magic trick!!
I'll be damned, I had no idea where you were going with this and just look at that beautiful lamp... Great work, I love it.. ❤❤❤❤❤

SO often when watching Andy's turning videos, I am guessing constantly throughout wondering what on earth each stage is for, and what the final object will be! 😅 Always wonder if guessing the outcome is equally a mystery to people who actually work wood & resin themselves, or whether their background allows them to see rather more steps ahead than I can...?
One of my favorite things to do is to watch the video before reading any of the comments so I can guess for myself what is being made. In the first 20 seconds of this, I was hoping you'd use clear resin to preserve the view of the burl, then I was thinking it would make a really nice lamp base. I'm so glad we had the same thought! 😁 My idea was a bit different from your's, but I think your idea was better for preserving the beauty of the piece. I was trying to think how it could have been illuminated in such a way as to diffuse the light through the resin to highlight the grain.

Beautiful lamp. That really shows off the the beauty of the wood.
That came out gorgeous!
Flames, quilts, and burls. Always great choices. I'll second the other comments lauding the clear resin, too. I enjoy the colored resin, but I really like the clear resin to let the wood shine in its natural beauty
I only twigged where you were going when the cable appeared, and then it made sense. So imaginative.
When you put it on the lathe, I thought, "don't bore through this, I'll keep it on my desk as is to enjoy". And you did! Great picking out a reflective opaque shade and clear glass bulb.
Oh wow, I wasn't expecting that, beautiful. Have a nice weekend 💜

Wonderful lamp! Love the display at the end, too!
Hi Andy, YES !! I win, I guessed you were going for the lamp !! But I thought of the inside of the column being lit up. Once it was polished and spinning, it looked like fire burning.
It's perfect Andy~well done.

This looks like a oversized vulcaniac Dragon eye on a lamp. Absolutely awesome creation Andy
Thank you again and again and again and again all I do is watch wood-turning videos all day😢 dying inside that I don't have a lathe or shop or tools are all the other things necessary to manifest this to my life but thank you so so much for sharing it with me!
I'm imagining no matter how thorough you are when you clean up after one of the resin pour woodturning projects, you're still finding little bits of it lying around your workshop days later. That stuff flies EVERYWHERE! The resin pour projects always take it to a whole new level of cool, as far as I'm concerned.
It’s like a glass paperweight! So beautiful!
I was so happy to see you create such a lovely lamp & stand. That is what I thought would highlight that beautiful wood within the epoxy. Great work, sir. Thanks for sharing. Sincerely.

An absolutely glorious work of art, Andy, serving as a lamp base. You are so creative and innovative! And I love it when you eschew the blue goo. 👍👍
I MUST say again Andy, you never cease to amaze me! You said on your caption that you weren't sure what to make of this, well I will tell you you have, if you'll pardon my expression, have "enlightened" me. This lamp is incredible!!

I really like the look of the clear acrylic with the wood. It adds a new dimension when viewing the piece. I think that you should do more of those.

So, so beautimous!!
That is a cool light Andy!
Clear was definitely the right call. Even if you'd had a piece that matched and filled the gap a bit, that clear really shows the light.
Really nice, Andy. I especially like the see-through effect of the resin in the base. Bill
