Woodturning - An Experiment!
April fools lol penis
This video was an experiement to see how little effort I can put in a video and still get a lot of views. It seems that it doesn't really mater if what you've made is ugly, stupid and useless, like in this video, as long as it has a good thumbnail and clibaity title, the video will be successful. I guess that's the KZread algorithm doing it's thing. But It is sometimes very frustrating when I put month of effort into a unique project, only for the video to perform poorly, because I didn't find a good thumbnail.
That's why this video was uploaded on April 1th. It is not to be taken seriously. But if you are new here, I suggest you take a look at my channel, and you will find unique and beautiful project that I'm very proud of, and that you will not find on other channels.

Right until the very end, I was thinking "what the?". When I saw the banana, I burst out laughing. That's such a brilliant idea.

I agree, your content is what makes it interesting and desire to watch.
I watch your videos because of the gorgeous pieces you produce. Not because of stupid thumbnails and I could give a flying flip less about the stupid KZread algorithm! Keep doing what you do, because there are those of us out here that appreciate the beautiful artistry that you bring us!

Lol.
I've watched enough of your videos to know the end result of your project will be incredible. It doesn't take a thumbnail to get me to watch and like, it's just automatic as soon as I see you've uploaded. Keep up the great work!
To answer your question, I like good humor. A video like this is good communication with your audience. A short and fun video on this date is absolutely appropriate. Everyone of your videos come up in my feed, and the ones I share is the ones where I become really impressed by your work. I see that you know your stuff, I see that you work impressively accurate, you have good equipment and an understanding for mathematics and patterns and the right way to do things. I think you should do what is fun for you, and not be overly concerned by views and likes. The impressive stuff will shine through for those who know how to see it. Your filming is good, and you put in a humorous point here and there. I like your videos, and look forward to your next big project. You are a good artist.
Your talent is what brings us back each time.
Bonjour.
The best poisson d'avril I've seen today! What fun!
This video of turning a piece of wood into a beautiful work of art is absolutely incredible! The skill and precision that went into creating this piece is truly impressive. It's amazing to see how something as simple as a block of wood can be transformed into such a stunning sculpture. The attention to detail and the creativity that went into this project is truly inspiring. It's clear that a lot of time and effort went into making this piece, and the final result is truly breathtaking. Thank you for sharing this amazing woodworking project with us! Thank you from 🇶🇦 🇶🇦 🇶🇦 Qatar 🇶🇦 🇶🇦 🇶🇦

beautiful artwork Thanks for sharing
🤣🤣🤣 Great experiment and I'm glad that it worked out for you Olivier! Have you finished your new shop yet? You must give us a tour sir! Thank you.
Well played! Perfect for the day and teaching the algorithm a lesson. 🤣
You are among best woodturning channels. No need to place any crap in thumbnails.
Have watched all of your videos and will continue to do so. Love your creativity and humor got added with today's. 😊
Always the most unique and beautiful products.
I always look forward to your upload. I look at the name of the channel and I am fairly sure that I will be treated to great artistry and workmanship. To me, you are the best woodturner in KZread. Keep up the good work.😊
Et j'ai adoré le poisson d'aujourd'hui 😂 I confirm that there is astonishing projects on this chanel! And I loved today's April's fool
Merci beaucoup Mr.
Inspiring and humorous, I love your channel.
I watched this one not because of its thumbnail, but because I watch all of your new videos.
Love the video. I could see the fruit bowl holding holding a nativity or festive greenery during the holiday.
Don't be discouraged by the algorithm. Take comfort in knowing there are a lot of people who watch evey video you upload. Also, the harder the project, the more you're developing your skillset. I hope you keep pushing your craft more and more, creating beautiful and unique pieces to sell while entertaining us at the same time.
You are an artist and I know I will be watching a brilliant young man produce a masterpiece. That is why I watch and not for any other reason.
That was awesome. Love the humor and the design concept. 🔥
Another "ONE OF A KIND & NOVEL" piece like many in your portfolio. I could not stop laughing when you put in the banana (or was it plantain🤣🤣) along with the spherical fruits, which will definitely make an "adult" conversation starter in any gathering
I thought the vase thingy actually looked pretty nice artistic-wise.
Bravo
In anyone nelse's hands this would have been a mess! This is stunning, beautiful, and deeply informed. With 243K followers, I'm not alone in this.
To hell wih the algorithm, your work should always attract clicks!
This video made me laugh out loud! Probably more than it should of!! 😂 Well done Olivier, regardless, your craftsmanship is always exquisite 👌🏼 keep up the amazing work!! 👏🏼👏🏼
Being a subscriber means as soon as a vid comes up its watched. After reading the description just made this one even better. You still made something no one else does
Even with it not being a serious project, in my opinion it looks cool as hell. And that ending - LOL. I watch your videos and have enjoyed the content a lot. I've especially enjoyed your recent works (restoring the lathe, the desk and the Wormhole table). KZread is strange. Lot of the creators I watch have made mention of the same things with the algorithm. Just keep being you my friend - don't fall into the clickbait and false titles. Too many like that on here as it is. You're great at what you do, let that be what helps you to continue to grow. :)

Thank you very much!
TBH, I always click on your videos because I genuinely enjoy your content. You're actually the only woodturning channel I follow; I usually watch either weird medical channels, doll customizing/restoring, reddit channels and video games, so whenever you upload it's like a breath of woody fresh air.
There you go again, thinking outside the box, er, ah, the bottle or vase or something. Whatever it is that you were thinking outside of, it worked. Very interesting. I like it. 👍👍 Thank you for sharing. Have a great day and stay safe.. 🙂🙂
This is pretty to watch, Olivier. Salute from Canada.
It's so satisfying to watch. Well done. What a great hobby/job.
I'm absolutely agree with you. KZread works exactly as you described it. Althought, as an old subscriber, I know you have potential, and watch your videos because I know that you provide an awesome and unique content!
Gorgeous, even with a banana🤣. Actually, it's very clever, really interesting, and a lovely piece of work. Thanks, Olivier.
The videos has some kind of happy ending... Your message about thumbnail/clickbait is very clear. I can imagine that it's frustrating that nonsubscribers are susceptible for nice thumbnails or fancy titles to click on. I, as a subscriber, watch all videos you create about all the projects you create. Keep in mind that a lot of subscribers, maybe all of us, are loyal viewers. Despite of what you make. This vase with an identity crisis or bowl in transition is still a piece of craftsmanship. Keep on your good work!! Greetings from 🇳🇱
Never look at the thumbnail. I see a video from you in notifications and know it will be good. Even your jokey one. It gave me a laugh which I needed as I've been poorly for 2 weeks and no sign of improving.
Unusual….. I like it!!
My favorite was the snicker you had at the end. LOL
I dont even look at your thumbnails, I just see an Oliver video on my feed, I always immediately click on it to watch. I have already liked the video before it is 3 seconds into it just because I have followed you for years now and you have yet to disappoint on your craft! It is damn impressive to me that you could do a video like this, even as a joke, and still turn out something that looks good still in a few hours! You are damn impressive to me!
Loved the description! 🤣🤣🤣
Well I'm glad it brought me here. Cheers mate, good luck
Brilliant as always.
Oliver you have a wonderful and funny sense of humor....and I like it!
As so many have said already, we don't care about thumbnails. We love what you do and watch whatever new video you post. Keep on keeping on because what you do is pretty awesome.
What? Got me. I didn't see that coming! I've also never seen anyone mount a vase sideways on a lathe either. Kudos Oliver! Very cool....and funny! Keith from Hickory NC, USA😮😂
This looks so good. Your idea is great. 👍👍
Bravo, continue !
Lol... Fantastic piece. Nice video and great work as usual.
that is a crazy idea that looks amazing
I watch all your videos. I don't care if it has an super interesting title or thumbnail. I love your interesting camera angles and little jokes. Algorithm sucks so.
Hey man, cheers from PARAGUAY... the quality and unique original designes and ideas 💡 you usually have i think is the true and trust i see in your channel so keep the good way and happy aprils fools....
Well, how unusual. Never seen that done before, well done.
Now this is an April fools video i can get behind! 😂👏🏼 My thought process: • Ooo a vase • A vase with a hole it the center. Modern, i like it! • Oh there’s just an opening in the front…. Okay i dig it! You will be able to see the stems of the flowers! Nicee! • Oh….you made a fruit bowl that looks like a vase….okay. Not my esthetic but you do you! Still enjoy watching! ❤ *puts banana in neck of vase* •WAIT A MINUTE……🤔 •OMG! 😳😂 bravo!!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Such a cool turning. I have wanted to try doing a turning somewhat similar to that, turning the piece on two completely different axles like that. I love your sense of creativity and I fully agree with what someone else mentioned, it doesn’t matter what the video title is, if it has your name on it you can be sure that I’ll watch it. Your videos and work I find to be so inspiring and beautiful.
LOL, Brilliant mate, absolutely Brilliant 🤣
Weiter so
Silly; but beautiful. Now EVERYBODY is going to want one!
I knew it was gonna be something cool...it always is! Kid, ur a master of ur craft!
I think that, like many craftspeople, you are your own harshest critic. Everything you have ever made and shown on this channel (including this "joke" piece) has been beautiful and made with incredible skill and talent. I realise some pieces take more time and effort from you and it must be frustrating when those videos don't do as well as those of you making pieces you're less proud of. However, none of your work is "bad." I've admired every piece you've ever made, including this one. P.S. the banana made me chuckle, thank you.
I watch all your videos. Your skills are amazing and actually I like the concept as art.
Might have been a silly April Fools video…but it does give thought to the interesting things you could do working off axis on the lathe! I’ll bet we see some more of this in the future. Silly or not, I always watch!
Social media is tricky, try to keep it as something fun and do not get trapped in to chasing the number of viewers. I watch because of your name because your past projects have been so impressive. I appreciate your unique projects that is what brings me back. A lot of Creators on Utube and other social media sites quit because it is not fun anymore, try to keep in mind why you started doing it. Is it better to have 1000 viewers who appreciate your work or 10,000 who are just there for the click bait? Thanks for this project and all the others.
I was wondering when that special Gomis touch would be revealed, lol. I'll always watch your videos because of your brilliant videos and your enormously beautiful and creative projects. So...
Honestly mate, just keep going, your content is great. Inspiration for us amateurs! You havent been going too long either! Dying for another segment video though... 😅
lots of fun. thanks for that. you are a master and i enjoy your videos very much.
Great experiment and very nice fruit arrangement 😂
Different, NICE
Love it!! On a side note, I won a Milwaukee battery chainsaw in a raffle it has been so useful trimming pieces on the lathe. It’s small like a 6” bar. I would recommend to anyone! I’m sue any brand will work just as good.
You got me... I kept waiting for it to make sense...
Awesome and a WOWSER😮
It feels like you used April fools as an excuse to give into your intrusive thoughts about using the lathe off-axis 😁 Still a great video, and FWIW this is one of the only channels I have notifications turned on for so you could upload a video with a black rectangle for a thumbnail and I would still watch it :)
Muito bom como sempre 👏👏👏👏👏👏
Well said!!! Still like your creativity and sense of humor on this video.
I love your videos. I don't care what they are. They are wonderful and you are amazingly talented. AND you make us laugh. BONUS!
Nice one. I love your videos whatever the thumbnail.
Interesting piece.
WOW sweet job
I don’t even look at the thumbnail. All I have to see is “Olivier Gomis”and I’m in.
Don't store bananas alongside any other fruits. It doesn't matter how suggestive the effect it gives, it ripens them too fast... Nice bowl, by the way.
I watch all your videos (though I'm a few behind right now just because the last few were longer). I actually burst out laughing at the end. Thank you for this. Also, you say this piece is not a great one but I think you actually could repurpose this idea/design and make something really cool and more intricate. For example an urn/vase that doubles as a bowl? Would be something neat to put a few fake or dried flowers in while at the same time be a great place to keep something like keys? You are on to something here.
Top banana! LOL, Love it.
I'm not sure what I would call the end result, other than COMPLETELY AMAZING!
That’s very cool however at one point I thought you might be thinking “is this really a good idea “. So very pleased you pushed on. You’re a legend
Lol, very funny joke!!! ❤️❤️❤️👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Nice one 👏🏻
