Woodturning a Darning Egg
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
This is my first video of 2017. I make a "Darning Egg" for my daughter from a piece of Mesquite wood. This project was based on diagram that can be found at: www.woodworkslibrary.com/repos...

Thanks for the very useful link. Lots of good old books there. Hope you keep spreading those wood chips for a few more years. - I still use my 2 darning mushrooms when needed.

Greeting Tony! Have you made anymore of those special pens? For a while now I have been delayed by technical issues. I want to do things better, but it keeps me from producing anything. But then again I think about how many people are making video just using their cell phones. It is good hearing from you. Cheers
A very well presented and explained video Cip, and a beautiful and functional piece at the end. Nice to see you again my friend. Take care Mike

Greeting Mike! It is always good to hear from you. I found something else about this darning egg. The handle is intentionally thin to darn glove fingers. I am looking forward to your next video. Thank you for watching. Cheers.
Hello Cip, A very nice project and superbly demonstrated. I remember my dear old mum using a similar thing and that was a long long time ago, hers was a mushroom. Thanks for sharing and take care, Bram

Greeting Bram! Yes, brings back memories. I was so surprised my daughter requested such a item. Kind Regards.
Great video Cip. I am going to make one of these for my mom. She loves to sew and make clothing. Not sure how much sock mending she does but a great piece of history for the sewing room! Thanks for the video.
Very nice Cip. I'm quite sure your daughter will get years and years of use from her darning egg...! Thx for sharing...!

Cip, Thanks so much for the inspiration. I'm going to make one for myself and put my old light bulb in retirement..
Happy New Year. Look forward to see new videos in the new year. Its always interesting to follow the work you do. This was a nice job, Its always a special moment when you put oil on the wood and then see the texture and lines in the three. Think your daughter will be happy. Have a nice weekend, Best wishes from Jan in Norway

Greetings Jan! I hope to do more this year. Sometimes I get overly concerned about technical issues that do not matter anyway. My son visited Norway a few years ago. He was working and did not get a chance to see very much. Thank you for watching my video. Happy New Year!

Hello I hope your son will have the possibility to come back to visit Norway , and really have to chance to travel around and have a look at the fjords, mountains and all that the country have to show. I hope you will have time to show us your woodwork this year also. Its always a great time to follow you. Wish you a great weekend. Thanks for answering to my note
Hellow Cip! Great instructional video. You made good use of the video time and showed just how to make it. I appreciate that. The mesquite came out looking nice as well. Nice to get a new video from you and hopefully you can crank out a few more this year as your projects are always interesting.

Howdy Alex! Yes, it is olde. Maybe back in 1919 they were big sellers. Anyway good spindle turning practice and a topic for conversation. Kind Regards.
Frank Ramirez. My mom used a light bulb to darn socks. No problems with the needle digging into the wood.

Hello again, Pascal! Starting a channel on KZread can be fun. It took me about two months to get 100 subscribers and 1,000 views. I think you are off to a good start. Kind Regards.

Howdy Anthony! Definitely like the XP. Fantastic speed control and good torque at low speeds. I still have my 1624-44. It is a very good lathe. I used it in December to show my son-in-law to turn some spindles. Thanks for watching.
Cool.

Howdy Brian! No wife training videos, LOL. Making a Darning Egg was such an unexpected request. I remember mom darning holes in our socks. She would used a light bulb. Light bulbs are getting hard to find now a days. Thanks for watching my video. Cheers
