Wooden square making - only hand tools
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Hand tool woodworking. I used walnut and maple, finishing tung oil with carnauba wax, glue up - fish glue. I noticed a long time ago that if you buy a square in a store that costs less than 100$, then its accuracy plunges me into sadness. Therefore, for many years I have been making squares for myself, and they don’t wear out, more often they just get bored and I want something new, now I needed a square a little more than my smallest and a little less than a large square. I ask you to pay your attention to the fact that when you glue both parts of the square, please do not use PVA glue, as it remains elastic after drying and the seam will always be movable. Therefore, I recommend gluing the squares only with solid glue, and this is Bone glue, fish glue, or polyurethane glue. And, I almost forgot, you can also use the red Titetbond original, it is also hard and not elastic after drying.

Thank you for another beautiful video. Your lighting, editing and music selection are only surpased by your fine woodworking.
story of my life - need a square to make a square... nice work, brother!
Well done ! Such a simple tools needs great care to be efficient, and you did it ! Inspiring… And the "whistle" of your Clifton… a music by itself !
patience - that is the word that comes to mind after seeing a few of your videos - impressive - thank you
Another work of art. After a long day I fell asleep to the amazing sound track. And had to rewatch❤
I enjoy making my own tools too, so rewarding. I created a small square and let the tail of the square protrude a little further out the back of the "handle" which was cut at 1:6 for dove tails. and the other end at 45 degrees. these are so useful when making boxes and similar items.

Coolest Dad ever! 🙂
Your videos are very inspiring for me. One day I hope to have a tenth of your ability. Great videos. Great music!!
I’ll tell you man, I can sit and watch & learn from you all day long. I have made metal working tools most of my career. As a retired guy, I would love to make precision tools like what you did here. I would love to watch you make wooden hand planes. Your work is beautiful & brilliant! Thank you so much for sharing…

Pretty to watch
Wasn't expecting a wooden set square to be that good, but your work is amazing, really great.
Such a simple thing, beautifully done. Thank you, for showing us how.
Beautifully done. It's the joy in the journey that counts!!
As a woodworker, I can appreciate the level of detail and precision that went into this.
Another beautiful piece sir as it's in the tradition of the masters. Thank you.
Stunning work, Yurii! Really beautiful square!!! 😃 Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Beautiful woodworking skill! This video is so relax to watch!
You've just made me realize that making my own square is a very good challenge to push my woodworking craft further. I've recently made my own marking gauge with osage orange and I was looking for another small scale, high precision project. Yours is a superb piece of woodworking. I hope I can get close to your end-product!

Lovely tool build! I have been working on my mortises the hard part I find is keeping the back walls flat when paring . That Clifton plane is a beauty :)

Absolutely excellent channel you have created here. Great work, great projects and wonderful style. Without any words, but with a lot of enthusiasm and dedication. I hope you can continue your work during the horrible war in your country and that you and your family remain unharmed. All the best 👌 By the way, what kind of grease or fat do you use for your planes bottom side?
Очень красиво работаешь! После того как посмотрел это видео, тоже такой сделал пошёл 😊

Спасибо:) Я долго не решался, думаю как без циркулярки то сделать)) ну оказалось не так сложно!)
You can also use basic geometry to create the 90 degree angle, instead of needing a square to build a square.
O come on mate I thought you were making a tea 🍵 or something Nice job
Love this build, where can I find the glue double boiler? I need one for hide glue and such.
The only thing I didn’t like is that you used a manufactured square to set your original squareness. But as you showed, true squareness can be determined by marking a line and then flipping the square and marking another line. I wish that was the only method u used to establish squareness, but I also understand the difficulty that comes with it when a glue up is involved. Maybe I’ll make a vid taking that enormous challenge :)
Nice! I just made one myself out of maple last week. What brand of Marking gauge is that if you don't mind me asking? Looks like it possibly has micro adjustment if my eyes didn't lie to me.
Quanto tempo, realmente, precisou para fazer ester esquadro?
Perfection is not for everyone
So will wood movement take it out of square over time? Thank you
Would You recommend securing the joint with perpendicular dowels or brass rods?
I need to make one of these too! Did you fine tune the inside edge of the darker wood to be square too? If so, how?
@TheTrequarista
11 ай бұрын
It seems that he fined tune the inside edge during the glue up, you take that for reference before clamping because this edge would be hard to touch up later while you can easily planethe outside edge later if needed.
Were do you get fish glue from
The marking gauge was used incorrectly - the bevelled side of the blade needs to be on the waste wood. This is very nicely made though. It will be great to use with a pencil, and will be accurate until there is a change in humidity!
And I can buy one of these how?!
Was ist das für Kleber, der da heiß gemacht wird?
