WOODEN DUMMY FUNDAMENTALS

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this video Neil Parris shows some of the Wing Chun fundamentals that should be applied when training on the wooden dummy. Wooden dummy (muk yang jong) training can advance your Wing Chun, but common mistakes are often made which interfere with the students progress. This wooden dummy fundamentals guide can help the Wing Chun student to better navigate the wooden man, while keeping the core concepts in mind.
This is not a Wing Chun wooden man techniques video. Instead, focus is placed on; the intention of your stance, hip positioning, direction of energy and more giving you a solid foundation from which to train on your wooden man in a productive way.

    All the videos of Mr.Paris are in-depth and easy to understand. He takes the chinese taboo out of the wooden dummy and makes it more universal.

    Fantastic video, I'm a beginner & my classes have been stopped due to covid 19, I've built my own dummy and your tutorials will help sharpen what I've already learnt, so thank you so much 🙏

    Cheers for this amazing video! Sifu, please can you tell me how to make one's wooden dummy less noisy if one's living in a flat? So as not to disturb one's neighbours, you know...

    Where did you get your dummy? I've been looking to get one that will fit in a room about the same size as in your video.

    Big fan, I built my own dummy a year ago, kinda lost love for it when I could find proper training on it, only little training when I also did my regular training... after watching your vids, I love training with it again. Looking for to more.. Do you have a online class, one just KZread? I’ve been training nunchucks online for a about 8 months, when I’m done all my lessons I want to incorporate wing chun to part of my kung fu training. If not, these are fantastic!! Thank you

    Hi Sean A, congratulations on building your dummy and thank you for your comment. I'm currently working on some new content so plenty more videos on the way. Afraid I don't do online classes at present but if there is a topic you'd like to see me cover here on KZread I'll do my best to make it happen. I wish you all the best with your current nunchuku training and Wing Chun in the future. Best regards, Neil Parris

    Hi Tristram, there are a few good places to go although stock has been non-existent during the pandemic. Its worth trying Pagoda imports (UK), or everything wing chun (US). The one in the video is from Pagoda.

    For those who hesitate or can't afford a wooden dummy, what's your view of using rattan ring as training aid? Useful? Problematic?

  • @CentralWingChun

    @CentralWingChun

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hi huaxzhang, thank you for your comment. I Personally don't use rattan rings as the user needs to apply outward pressure (from the shoulders) as apposed to forward energy (from the body unit) while using them. I know of many others who find them useful, but they've never been something I'm interested in. Like any training aid, there usefulness will ultimately depend on your focus so I'm sure they have their place, but it's totally different to what you get with a wooden dummy.

    You meant EVEN more right? Yea i agree with you but still practicing the dummy for development, unless you can find someone every day that's willing to let you play with their arms and legs till you master a certain part of the style 🤷🏾‍♂️
