WOODEN DUMMY DRILLS - Wing chun punching technique

In this video Neil Parris guides you through a striking drill you can train on the wooden man with a special focus placed on Wing Chun punching technique at close range. This is a step by step Wing Chun tutorial using the wooden dummy as a guide for two distinct paths that your centre line punch can take. This is one of many drills that can be done done on the wooden man (muk yan jong). In this drill, you will learn how to practice your punching on the wooden dummy.
This is a simple Wing Chun wooden dummy drill that anyone can do and Neil Parris provides you with details of the techniques so you can correct yourself as you training sessions. One of the characteristic features of Wing Chun is the chain punch made popular in the Ip Man movies, however this punching drill is not about developing chain punching technique. This drill is for repetitions, awareness and understanding of the path of your individual punches while taking into consideration the need to reduce an opponents available space.
Our aim for these wooden dummy drills is to share Wing Chun concepts and techniques which you can explore in your own way. First you learn the form, and then you become formless! Here is the form, or in this case the punching technique.
At the time of filming and uploading this video many countries are in lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic. We hope you are all well and safe.

Like fencing I suppose, controlling the line and not giving space for the opponents point (strike) to come through

Yes, fencing is a pretty good comparison for this concept actually. The idea is to restrict the space the opponent has to use and attack in the same action. Thank you for your comment Andrew. Good observation.
