Wood turning - Spinning top and handle. Wooden toy making.
Ойын-сауық
Hello and welcome. In this video I show how to make a spinning top toy with a go faster handle using Zebrano and walnut on the wood turning lathe.
I had one of these as a kid and it's been on my list of things to turn for a long time.
Originally this was going to be all walnut as I picked up a box of end pieces and offcuts from ebay however, finding a fault while turning the top caused the stem to snap, so it became zebrano.
All done between centres with no chuck required although, I did mount the drive spur in the chuck as I am lazy and didn't want to take it off.
Finished in flaxseed oil before it's spinning debut at the end which is cut down slightly as this thing goes for a aaaages!

I absolutely love this video style. Very comprehensive and educational, but no talking! My favorite way to learn is to just watch carefully, and I hate it when tutorial videos waste 10 minutes on explaining how they're going to explain the process, how cool the end product is, why you should buy NordVPN, and their life story. This is actually very meditative to watch. 10/10, I subscribed after a minute. Thank you for your quality content.

What a lovely comment, thank you so much!! I guess what I try to make is the style I wanted to see when looking for videos to learn or take inspiration from. Some videos are edited to music which I also compose, but that's just so I don't feel like college was a complete waste of time lol. We're boardering on life story here so i'll say thanks again for taking the time to watch and leave such a nice comment. Made my day!
WOW! WOW! WOW!! Once again, you have blown us away. I dont think people realize how perfectly the top must be balanced to spin properly. You made the entire process look so simple!!!

Nice, get involved! I didn't measure a lot really, top to bottom drill bit was 8mm, just made sure the tops stem was thinner. And the Forster bit was 30mm but could definitely go smaller without issues. 👍
Superb Tim, just terrific making the handle alone would have been an excellent video. Cheers mate, really enjoyed that.

Greetings from Humboldt County Ca. Tim, watching your video, said to myself, Bob, you have that tool, yep got that one. Wow.. almost the same lathe. So how come your stuff looks so much better than my stuff?? I shall endeavor to get better, thanks for the encouragement 👍🏻Stay safe.

Thanks for tuning in Bob! I guess we are our own worst critics sometimes. The only thing that matters is, if you enjoy it, keep going. Also repetition is key. Thanks for watching!
better use wet stone for sharpening.
