Wood turning tips and projects. Taking you from start to finish with a ruff piece of wood to your sanded and finished project.
This wood turning project takes about 20 min. This is from a reclaimed wood. I am not certain about the species of the wood. Very hard wood with a beautiful grain that finished up nicely. This is great fast gift idea for dried or fresh flowers when you have a glass vial to insert. These can be found most local craft stores.

Thanks for the tip on the mineral oil and paste wax... I had asked you on another video. Awesome, have get the mineral oil and I'm gonna try this.
The grain and colour is really firery. That wood looks very dense. It looked hard work to turn that down compared to your other work. Great finished item. Hadn't thought about using something like a test tube to finish it.
I like that Chisel, what a beast. Pretty nice vase too.
Great idea Dennis,
This is a nice project for those small pieces left over from larger projects. Thanks for sharing.

Very nice! You made that look so easy to do!!
Lovely profile on that vase. I'm going to have to steal that. Best Wishes, Brendan.
Thanks John.
I reclaimed a bunch of that type of wood from work 14-15 years ago. It was used for the structure in crates from S Korea. I always thought it might be mahogany. It has a very aromatic, almost like cinnamon, smell.

Thank you.
Thanks Larry, Would love to see the banksia pod vase. I have not turned one of those. Carl
nice
Thanks John. I had a great 4th with the kids. Yes, KZread has some strange gliches sometimes. I have clicked on channels that tell me they have been removed when they are not. I am not sure what is going on, but I have had the same thing happen with people I have subscribed to.
Thanks Ron. Let me know if you have any other questions about the process. Carl
Next time you want to take off a lot of wood try using that big old scraper you have. Works fast and easy. Dennis
Looks like you had a good forth as well, made it through the day with all my fingers in place. :) thanks for another great video (fireworks as well) for some reason it is giving me the option of subscribing to your channel which I did long ago, strange.
Hi John, I got this one at Woodcraft
Hi Carl, I love your videos and I'm getting back into turning after a 4 year layoff and I've learned a lot from watching you. My question is: After sanding with the wax/oil mixture, have you ever buffed the piece on a buffing system? If so, how did it turn out? Thanks in advance, David
@CarlJacobson

+David Judd Thank you very much David. Yes I've used the buffing wheel on a few pieces it turns out great and a nice shine
Very nice job. I really enjoy your work. Where do you get the glass inserts?

Hey Carl, Nice vase. I need to make some of these. It's one item that I haven't turned yet, except for one I turned out of a banksia pod a while back. The wood still reminds me of sapele, especially in the still picture at the end...but what do I know? ;-) Larry
where did you get the glass tube? What do you think about using Helmsman marine finish from minwax for vessels holding water? Beautiful piece. Thank you for all your teachings. They are valuable.
@CarlJacobson

Thank you Debbie! I've never use a marine finish, but if it's waterproof it should work. I got the tube from one of the turning supply companies I can't remember which one.
Yes you get a email notification. Take care, Carl
@mrdifficult I got them at a hobby store.
Thank you Carl Do you have problems with cracking since you did not hollow out the base of the piece.

+123HURST No, this a dry piece of wood and it didn't crack.
Yes, I throw it away after each use.
MrLeonard55, I agree.
nice vase, in this video what chuck are you using? I have one that came with a used Delta 46-460 lathe, but there are no markings on it, and I would like to see if I can get larger jaws for it.

Happy New Year and good health and happiness. Excuse me, but I should have one more question, could be the final surface treatment of wood to use coconut oil? Thank you once again and wish you the best.... Anton....

Anton Jančo Happy New Year Anton, I'm not sure about Coconut oil, I've never used it. Walnut oil is a good substitute.
