Wood turning - Plank to Pine Bowl
I had short length of CLS Construction pine left over from another project, and wondered what could be done with it...?

Pine is so under rated, it takes a very light touch, which sharpens your skills. Thanks for watching🙂
Excellent job! I will have to try this out when I get my lathe working. I have a bunch of 2x4 scraps to practice on

Nice job. I use mostly construction grade lumber due to my location and you can make some very nice stuff from it. I was fortunate enough to find some "ditch wood" recently and plan to turn a few larger bowls from that but usually I am stuck with construction grade lumber. Great work. Yall have a wonderful day.

A great use of the quarter saw grain! When you first stacked the two boards, I was wondering it might be better to book match them, then you did 😊

I love experimenting with pine. Thanks for watching
Love it, the resulting bowl is very nice, lovely grain pattern. I would be terrified turning something held together with a thin film of glue, knowing my luck I'd end up wearing it. As a point of interest what glue did you use. .

I have used Gorilla Wood Glue for the last 2.5 years. It's fairly priced and easy to get hold of. Thanks and good luck!
Nice work mate

I'm guessing you intentionally tried to line up the grain for the best symmetrically visual orientation. Looks very nice! 👍👍👍👍👍

Yes, thanks 😎👍
Just curious, has the bowl split at all?

Nope. Still in pristine condition. The CLS timber is kiln dried, so no warping or similar.
That turned out awesome! About what speed you run your lathe? Thanks for sharing!

On this project around 800-900 rpm, but it depends on the size and type of wood. Thanks for watching 👍
Great job and inspiration for those of us not blessed with endless supplies of 'nice' wood 👍 Just curious about your tool rest - trying to find a 12" with a 16mm post (looks like what you have there) - only found one 'off the shelf' - is that the VIGAN rest from Amazon? any good?

Yes I think it is. I bought it a couple of years ago, and whilst it was fairly cheap, it is very good quality and still is superb condition. It was a bit of a gamble buying the unknown, but for me, I couldn't go back to a shorter everyday tool rest.
