Wood Spirit Woodcarving High Detail intermediate project sycamore wood
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
I wanted to do a spirit for you guys on a harder wood. Mostly to show how much better some woods handle detail than basswood. How rough you can be with the other woods and how the tools leave a different mark and look. not to mention the look of the sycamore...or london planetree. knives are from deepwoodsventures.com

Thank you for the information
Great video Daniel, it's good to see you in your new apartment
Another great job Daniel. I had a meerschaum pipe that I purchased when I was in Turkey; so I know exactly what you were talking about in the video.

*wackymisfit thank you bro,very helpful.
Wonderful vid as always. I've tried to carve on branches from my wood burning pile. I have ash maple cedar oak and some cherry they just all seem way too hard to carve. I really don't want to damage my knives because I just can't replace them at this time. Maybe I'll try the alcohol mixture. Anyway thanks for sharing.

+lungboy42 thanks man. so most of those woods you mentioned are in the 'hard' catagory...if we could have a soft, medium, and hard. basswood would be soft and sycamore would be medium and ash and sugar maple being hard. those woods can only be carved when they haven't dried yet. otherwise it's too much of a pain.
I really appreciate your videos. Let me suggest that you get some Northern basswood from Heinecke wood, located in Wisconsin. I can only assure you that the difference between the wood available from hobby shops and so forth and their product is night and day. Their pricing is quite low in my view and they are nice to deal with. I have no connection with them other than satisfied customer.
Have you ever tried carving Hackberry ?
hahaha killin me!
Daniel, I just watched this video again. What do you think about carving cedar? I found some limbs and they are drying naturally in my garage.

sorry for late reply. There's different kinds of cedar. most is carvable but has bad cross grain cutting. so you have to sand those cuts or cheat them. by that i mean, every cross grain cut can be made of a bunch of tiny 'with the grain' cuts. but yeah, plenty of people carve cedar. look up the different kinds. there's the red one, western and .....the other one....forgot..
That 80's look you keep referring to... are you thinking about the raisin men? lol That's what it reminds me of. I think one of those guys had tall hair and they were handed out at mcdonalds if i'm not mistaken

wait...what? are you talking about the california raisins? the claymation band? you know i was just thinking about them..NWA was signed by the same guys that put out their albums. I have a feeling we're way off topic though.

+Chris Sargeant From my take on it, I would suggest using Basswood... There is this Ebay seller called "lumber4you" and he sells things like this: www.ebay.com/itm/141552844482?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

What do you think of pine?

Graham Parr depends. Some species like construction pine can't be carved. Some like clear pine, white or claro, are pretty good but don't take cross grain cuts as well. But they clean up nice if sandpaper is used.
If u wanna get wood on your own 😮😂
