Great man day by day blesings from Puerto Rico
The red part on the top is called the comb kind of remember the idea it looks like a comb over every now and then
Nice one! Cool knifes you made, like the idea of stamping them
Very interesting, thanks ..wil have to be in somewhere outdoors though :) Was thinking perhaps in the apartment to bad
Well….you can get a smaller knife up to critical temp with a single torch. Maybe two if the yellow plumbing torches and no forge. Very thin and small steel. That small, single blade shouldn’t cause too much smoke on quench. My first attempts ranged from shaping already made knives to making a letter liners that didn’t get heat treated right. It’s all fun
The lifan swap os by far the all around best option
I don't always carve wood, but when I do, I go "weeee.'
Great video ❤
Off no help
You've watched a lot of videos and said negative things. Are you okay?
First time of viewing your Vedio espically your explanation, and your in-depth views on same general information it all rensenated with me. Thank you
This is my favorite woodworking channel because he goes weeeeeeee
Weeeeeeee!😁
So talented, I'm hoping I can get half as good as you one day. Peace & Praise, Big Jim New Hampshire USA aka Boston Strong
Hello my friend my Brother. I found your videos today and subscribed. Your skills are unmatched. I am a retired contractor builder who was forced to retire early due to chronic pain. I have been in the " Club " since Sept 3, 1993, Clean & Serene. I pray you are still with us. I have much to learn from you. Peace,, from Big Jim New Hampshire USA aka Boston Strong
Awesome. Thanks for commenting. Yeah I haven’t taken any nights or weekends off. I haven’t been carving as much. I’ve been opening recovery houses in South Dakota to help the still struggling, it’s left little time or energy for much else. Loving life though.
I have a bone diease in both feet cant work, feeling like wise i started carving crochet hooks and spoons
what are you using to sharpen?
Well done with the recovery 👍👍👍👍👍
What is a best/recommended wood, offering best balance of carveable but is strong for something like this; we want to make a wooden sword (2' long max). We don't want too hard of a wood that will make it hard to cut/sand. HOWEVER, we don't want the wood to be too soft, where the sword will be easy to break. One piece sword... not multiple pieces.. a simple project for 12 yr old. No massive details to be carved into the wood. We're just after the general shape, cut from a 1-2" thick piece of wood. Initially it will be "blocky" but we'll sand the edges, more so on the "blade" part. Again, we don't want to go too soft but not too hard either.
is this for a child level? or an adult swing sword? My mom had a boyfriend that made me and my sister swords when we were kids. My sister's was made out of white pine i think, mine was probably a quality oak. both were fine but my sister's would dent. If you want an actual hand guard you need a second piece of wood or it will break. your wood grain can only go one way and that will need to be down the shaft of sword or even a strong wood will break. I would suggest dark walnut or sycamore. both are pretty strong but not impossible to carve. something a bit lighter would be butternut. make the hilt/hand guard just a bump or you'll need to look at how to make a real sword and replicate with wooden pieces. Get leather studs for accents on hilt and pommel. Get leather strips to cover handle. If you have a 'woodcraft' near you, go to that to look at wood. ask for scraps and bring a carving knife to test wood to find personal determination to sculpt wood. good luck
I just started carving and i went to use the standard size chisels and gouges method but then it got overwhelming as i needed a LOT of different sized gouges which are expensive (the good quality ones i dont bother buying cheap ones for chisel/gouges they are useless) then i saw chip carving which seems like it doesnt need a lot of different sized knives and shapes. one thing is these knives are small and all i see is people carve on basswood and im trying to carve big letters on hardwoods as I live in asia which basswood is hard to find and expensive. so i wanted to ask Is chip carving doable on hardwoods?
Woodcarving is difficult and expensive. The project needs to fit the skill, wood and tools...Having an idea and trying to make it come to life is very difficult. You will need to find projects already done, find out tools and not expect much change from projects already done by beginners. I would start with whittling, with quality knife from flexcut or deepwoodsventures that is already sharp. Use basswood. if you want to chip carve, use basswood for first project. get chip carving knife from flexcut or pfeil or Butz knives. There's a ton of information depending on what you want to do. I can do a phone call, email, or zoom if you have items and sketches you want to show. [email protected]
yep, initially i thought carving would be cheaper than regular old woodworking but it seems not the case after knowing that you need a lot of tools (quality ones) to get the job done properly. I mainly make furniture and cabinets but i would like to add some carvings to my work just simple ones like lettering and geometric patterns. thank you for the tip! i will try to get some whittling knife in the future but in the mean time i have bought a chip carving knife from beaver craft. living in south east asia means that a lot of brands are not available and so does basswood (there are some but it is very expensive). there are only one store here that carries some pfeil, henry taylor and beavercraft tools so i went with pfeil and beavercraft which seems more affordable. as for wood, locals here go with jelutong wood which they say it is comparable to basswood. I appreciate your help and will send you an email in the near future. cheers !
Lovely
Is it the pencil? Damn dude chill out!
Reminds me of dan hagerty from grizzly Adams nice work
How hard is this wood to carve ⁉️
It's actually sounds like sater is the way it's pronounced just helpful hint from d&d
Kutzull would be a good brand
I'm just trying to help no criticism but they make way smaller bits thanks for the video 😊😊😊
Great job ,, but they have way smaller bits for these smaller things check out treeline use
Love that you stayed with us carving "real time" - thank you. Excellent intro, including safety. I never would have thought of the glove. And patience is SO important. I just inherited these tools from a very dear friend, so I'm determined to pick up where he left off. I've ALWAYS wanted to work with wood! I seem to have body memory of sharpening a pencil like this. Great start! Thank you!
Thank you well done. I read Mr. Clean magic eraser is like 3000 grit sandpaper. Use my Fender guitar strap for strop. Thanks again.
Bad news I cut off appendage, good news I still have 4 more. Good video. Thanks.
Something about those”hobo” boxes I love. Homeless guys during the Depression wandering the country making boxes etc.We only have one life and when we are gone what we make is what counts. Inspiring video. Thank you.
I like the texture of the bear. Thank you.
Well done, except now I need more tools. Which gouges do you like? Thank you.
I had a tip snap off, will this method help reshape the end for a thin sharp tip. Thanks. Great channel. I will take out my basic Harbor Freight grinder.
Great beginning video, like your enthusiasm forget about negative loser comment. My first video I have seen. Will check out your channel. Thank you.
Aimed firearms and knives is dangerous Wishing you would mount the 4x4. Stay straight I'm living in suburbs and neighborhoods full of burned out yound people living like old people. Good luck and stay focus. Make a jig that you can lay at a 45 degree angle on a sturdy table Check out at a wood workshop and they should have a suggestion. Very dangerous tooling and a table cheaper than a hospital visit. Thanks for helping me/us.
I hit your liked button become you giving great instructions I'm a few months and 5 characters finished and pasted halfway on 5 others last spring. I did one rooster with a beginner tail and after a few tryouts thought my willow was perhaps starting to dry in the summer heat. " Roosters has gills below it's beak." Your skills are still gaining but teaching skills for video helping is above the normal so stick with us please 🙏 You're instructing great. Thanks
Interesting as I'm thinning my Beaver Craft blade and already noticed that the handle is to thin for my medium/large hands also my older age of 72 I'm in need of larger handle. Thanks for helping
An alternative to the Lifan is a 1984-85 ATC125M. You get Honda reliability, it bolts into the ct90, has the hi/lo sub trans with pull/elec start.. if you want a kick, you can order the components from the 110.
Rooster was good but no wings at least a line
That has to be the worst demonstration of chip carving I’ve ever seen 🤦♂️. Learning as you go is no time to make an instructional video.
Love your work! I'm doing pyrography but I can't wait to get started with this!!! Also, great on your recovery!💖👍
Excelente aula.❤❤❤❤😂😂😂😂
Wow that's awesome teaching bud,i have almor everything but a chip knife
Cleaning benzene to clean gunk off metal.
Why did you fit the carburetor backwards [air intake facing forwards]?
most carbs hit the frame so they need a spinner or different intake...or backwards
Really like your work and tutorials, what brand of carving tools are you using on this carving, what would you recommend for a beginner?
Hi, when you have some burr left, just pick up some soft wood like basswood or a cork and gently do few passes on the direction of the grain of wood 🪵 being used. You’ll be surprised how easily u can get rid of the burr and the area on the wood 🪵 will be somehow black due to removing the burr from the knife. Thanks
Love the tutorial, very helpful. For the sake of my own mind, the shape is not a triangle and not a pyramid. It is a tetrahedron, as all 4 sides are triangles. All the best!
Thanks for the video and the info helped me do my first. appreciate the knowledge
