wow an intelligent discussion with informed people about a serious subject and its on tv news! I'm amazed. The world definitely regresses over time, it doesn't progress.

Remember the Queen opening the plaque for the Wood Green shopping centre in 1981- So many shops on the streets have changed. Amazing history

2,000,000 pounds for 90 acres of London building land ? Lol, you can easily pay that for a single house now !!

This is the Wood Green Shopping Centre I remember. All the big high street names were in there, and I believe D H Evans? jumped in when John Lewis backed out. Sadly as a Shopping Centre it went down & down and only on a fenforced visit back there last week , it was a sad old 'eclectic' mix of shops that no-one wanted or, even less, ever visits. I jumped on a 141 and headed outta there PDQ. (N.B For 'Eclectic' - read "jumble of)". Very Sad

Where the news reporter is standing with Ally pally in the background is now primark's roof area. In the stairwell up to it you can see the builders graffiti names and dates of when they place been built

Its a shame that Wood Green has turned into a rough place at night especially. Imagine if John Lewis and some other places had had shops. They needed variety, a Marks and Spencer in the shopping city, House of Fraser, who knows even a Selfridges. John Lewis pulled the plug because they knew the City would pull them down since they were expected to be a centre piece - what was in for them? There is a clear victim mentality since Haringey was considered so poor. I rate the ambition, but Haringey were clearly very naive - how could they offer Uniliver that sort of cut?! A loan at that scale that pays off 12.5% dividends?! I think Stratford has done a much better job but was much easier. given the Olympic Stadia.
