Wood Engraving of a Chickadee | Fine Art Print on Handmade Japanese Paper

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Video showing the process of doing a wood engraving for a fine art print. It's a 7" x 5" wood engraving of a Chickadee printed on handmade japanese paper. This was my first wood engraving, but I have previous experience with woodcuts and linocuts

It’s such a natural progression to go from scratchboard to wood engraving and your style certainly works well with this medium. Beautifully done!

Hi Mike, I love your beautiful print! Thanks for your process description materials and references!. We met years ago in Ken´s class. Now I am in the afternoon session with Brian. I tried woodblock carving and printing last semester with two mythical birds. It would have been great to have your video when I started. Still haven´t figured out the sharpening materials and techniques. I would very much appreciate it if you could teach me how to do it appropriately!

Thank you, Eloisa, for your comment. I'm in Ken's class again this semester (1:00). Drop by anytime you want to talk woodcut. However, I'm not a teacher and you will get better information from Brian and Ken. The chickadee here is a wood engraving, which is similar to woodcut but it allows for more detail and it has its own type of cutting tools. The cutting tools for wood engraving are difficult to sharpen and I'm still trying to get better at that. But keeping woodcut and linocut tools sharp is a lot easier and I can show you an easy way to do that. Sharp tools are key for doing your best work.

:-) I can understand that.I'm sure you know that I'm using a text to speech app for the voice over. To make it more convincing, I put a "cough" sound effect in there. I knew it didn't really fit, but I thought I'd give it a try anyway. In the future, maybe I should make sure the voice over is artificial?

@@MichaelHalbert1952 i cant speak for others but a text to speach that sounds more natural is often easier to follow, and i appreciate how good this one is compared to many others ive heard before

Nice. But can you make tutorial from start to finish? At least basics.. Apple or Tree.. No one wants creates tutorials for free, so Patreon page will make you at least +500$ in a month for sure.
