WONKA (2023) Is Delightful! | Movie Reaction | First Time Watch | Timothée Chalamet

Jaby and Achara watch Wonka, the 2023 musical imagining a back story for the eponymous Willy Wonka from Roald Dahl's wildly popular children's book, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Timothée Chalamet (Dune Part 2) stars as Wonka and is joined by Keegan-Michael Key (The Super Mario Bros), Matt Lucas (Little Britain), Olivia Colman (The Crown, Secret Invasion), Rowan Atkinson (Mr Bean) and Sally Hawkins (The Shape of Water) in this all star cast. The music and set pieces in this film are dazzling setting it up there as one of our favorite films of 2023!

There is no reason that even ONE of these amazing songs shouldn’t have been nominated for an Oscar! Especially “A World Of Your Own”, that song honestly rivals “Pure Imagination” for me. And “Hat Full Of Dreams” is one of those songs you’re absolutely happy to have stuck in your head.

I'll be perfectly honest with you. I really loved the movie and the songs. But once i stepped out of the cinema, i couldn't remember a single song. All i had was the noodle apple scroodle rhyme. And believe me, i tried. I really tried to remember the songs because songs are my jam and my adhd would make me think or sing the song constantly. But i couldn't. The song while fun, were forgettable. Even now, while i can now remember the first chorus line. I can't remember anything else. Not even the instrumental. And this is coming from someone who can insta remember any song i listen to once. And even on the night i saw the cinema, i remarked at how forgettable the songs were. That there wasn't any showstoppers. Sad but true.

For some reason, since watching this movie I've had this theory that Noodle is the grandmother of Miss Honey from the 2022 Matilda. We know there's a Roald Dahl "universe" here - if you didn't catch it Mrs Scrubbit and Bleacher are implied to be the Twits at the end - so wouldn't be that far-fetched.

These are just my own theories: 1) The giraffe, Abigail, is either the same one in ‘The Giraffe, The Pelly, and Me’ or it’s simply a reference to that Roald Dahl book. 2) The woman with the baby who asks Wonka for a sovereign may possibly be Charlie Bucket’s mother, and the baby may be Charlie. Considering that she’s the only person in the entire movie (not counting Noodle’s mother) who is in poverty, at least by appearance, it’s a safe assumption (but not confirmed).

If this community doesn't mind, I made an additional character to this movie (because I can't watch anything without adding my own little additional character/storyline). Throughout the movie, we see a girl who is always in the background and always appears in Willie's daydreams and dances beside him in all the musical numbers. 🍫 In the flashback scene, when Willie's mom pinky promised him that when he shares his chocolate with the world "I'll be right there beside you," she actually says "We'll be right there beside you," as she hugs her stomach. And Willie says, "Soon, all I had left was her bar of chocolate. She took my little sister with her, before I could meet her." 💔 In the end, when Willie is sitting on the steps of the cathedral, the girl comes up from behind him and asks if he's waiting for someone. When he says yes, she asks if she can wait with him, and she sits next to him. Suddenly she shouts "MAMA" and races to embrace her mom. It takes Willie a second to realize it, but the girl was hugging his mom. All Willie could do was smile and cry as his mom and sister wave and blow kisses at him. As Willie blinks the tears out of his eyes, they dissappear and he's left there smiling and at peace. 😭 In the end, when Noodle reunites with her mom, (and Willie sings pure imagination) the scene is intercut with Willie being reminded of his sister and mom embracing and waving goodbye. (Let me know if anyone cried or if it was just me) 😭🍫💔🥹❤

Atleats wonka learned one thing with scrubbit and bleacher is that people don't read the fine print so that becomes useful when ur inviting 5 children and their guardians to ur factory in the future

a lot of the people who didnt watch it probably had zero knowledge or intrest in the Gene Wilder version, and the people who were attacking the movie early one were the ones who loved the awful Johnny Depp version and refuse to watch any version of Wonka without their precious Depp in it

Tbh I was more expecting to see his(Wonka's) adventures and him as his own character, with maybe the movie crescendoing with the Oompa Loompa land in which he tries to negotiate with them to work in his factory and not this story line really but thats just me

This is not even Paul King's best film. Paddington and Paddington 2 are a must watch for you now. :)

You seemed to have the 2 movies, "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" and "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" confused. Or at least I hope you had. You referred to the 'classic movie' as "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," which had Jonny Dep in it. The classic "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" had Gene Wilder in it. I wasn't impressed Jonny Deep's version.
