    If some rare/powerful cards aren’t reprinted, then new people won’t play as much, and if new people don’t play as much, then the player base shrinks, and if the player base shrinks, then the game dies, and if the game dies, then the investors basically get rug-pulled…. Which is exactly what I expect this to do.

    hey so as a small publisher and avid CCG player, this whole thing makes me sick. Kickstarter made them cancel the campaign after they launched to a staged group of 50 whale crypto backers and raised 40K in the first hour which propelled them to raise around 1.4 M before KS made them take it down for violating their NFT policies. during the height of the controversy, much more dirt was unearthed from their discord where people exposed that they told their supporters privately to pledge big and then pull their pledge after the campaign hit certain numbers. WOTF then did all of this childish posturing at the news of KS ousting them telling KS to "kick rocks" and kick them off the platform cus they weren't gonna pull the campaign willingly later saying the "woke mob" got them canceled and that they would relaunch on their OWN website because Wonders is so great and all these woke warriors won't stop them...then they went ahead and pulled all the overt NFT features from the Ks campaign and are planning to relaunch on Tuesday 5/14 apparently gettinghte green light from KS - likely following the same playbook of getting people who are already bought into the speculative value of the $250 booster box NFT scam and having them staged to be big first day backers who will inflate the perceived value of this non-game so that those unaware of the many, many unethical and shady underpinnings of this trash ass project will contribute for the "collectible" investment side of this offering - which considering that all the images are generated with AI is ironic and hilarious because they not only don't own the images or create them but there is no inherent value to them in any sense, not even artistically. This isn't the only video like this calling this shit out - more please. anyone who sees what this is should vocally oppose it. as an industry person who frequently has to assure people that the crowdsourcing space is a safe place when supporting tabletop games and has been working hard for over 8 years to build a business that relies on Kickstarter as a huge component of how we can reach the success I loathe what wonders is doing and want them to dissolve and never come back. its all short-term gain at harm many and benefits very few. the sake of quick money $$$ and no substance.

    The idea of never reprinting cards sounds like a particularly horrendous idea, unless cards will only be valid for play during a limited season when they are available. Otherwise, you end up with very powerful cards released in the earliest days of the game that no new player will ever be able to acquire without spending boatloads of money. That does not sound like the type of game I would want to play. In fact, that sounds like the type of game that will encourage people to print their own unofficial copies of those limited circulation cards.

    They've been doing tons of advertising. But yeah, the gameplay and card design seems shallow, and the emphasis seems heavily on collectibility of something that CAN be played as a game.

    Now here is a different view of this “no reprint” of cards. Let’s say that they figure out that one card from the set is high demand, what stops them from a different version, phase, or something along those lines. While I hate the idea of reprint cards. I played magic back after it first came out and that is what they were about. But as time passed they figured out the secondary market was making a killing off there work, so how to get there cut. Reprint, reprint, reprint….. So to keep the value of the market and secondary market stable it does make sense to not do that. But as at the same time updating the card and its powers or ability. Keeps everything in check.

    Yeah man, the game mechanics seem cool so i want to try it, but im not confident itll be something ill stick with. I do think some cards shouldnt be reprinted like MTGs Black Lotus, because its fun to try to get scarce cards. But not reprinting ANY cards? Thats... a strange way to run a game based on said cards.

    Apparently they're finishing up with the Kickstarter now but all the comments in Kickstart about the playtests is the lack thereof. They haven't even tested it much of any and already closing..I have a feeling the mass influx of pledges are maybe done by devs themselves. It's worth the loss to Kickstart if you can fake overwhelming interest in a game rarely tested. They did however, according to comments, release a print and play test deck on their discord for ppl to try themselves. Alot of controversial game rule mechanics apparently going on too. Ontop of that they apparently have a former wizards of the coast artist working them but yeah no reprints ever definitely points to the game being designed for the most financial gain in short time with no longevity...unless they think the ai won't ever stop coming up with ideas. I'll tell you what will happen is that ai if it's used for such purposes will just copy what it sees off of edhrec lol

    They missed the middle ground. No reprints is bad. Too many reprices is bad. Generic base cards need reprints but they could choose to not reprint the first artwork. Like make each edition a different artwork. Anyway thanks for the video. This smells like metazoo.

    I agree with everything you are saying BUT the same thing was said about sorcery contested realm and we ALL know how that turned out. ALL CARD GAMES ARE GAMBLE even MTG. Now IF this game comes out and it rockets then are coming back with a video saying you were wrong. In todays card gaming it is the wild wild west. You have 50% flippers and 50% players and you cant tell who is driving the market with ANY game now.

    Cards looks good, game looks fun. If I get a rare card that worth a lot cool, otherwise idc. I'm not a collector. Doubt that normal (not the unique or foil ones) cards will cost that much when games is out. And if it's the case, casual players just print their cards lol. Other game cards also cost a lot if you want specific decks. Nothing new here, but at least you'll keep your cards value. You could get first kickstarter deal for like 55$? And have 2 decks. Playing it like a normal card game

    I've been a fan of TCGs for 20 years now. Every game I could get my hands on: Pokemon, Digimon, Yu-Gi-Oh, Magic, Neopets, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Wacky Packages (not a game), Star Wars X-Wing Miniatures (yes, technically a tabletop game)... Anything I could get my hands on. How many have I played in tournaments or anything beyond playing with my sister or maybe a friend? None. I've never spent the time or money to have a deck that followed the "meta" or even cared to look that up. I just built decks with cards I liked and themes I thought worked. Here's why I think Wonders works for players like me... I don't have to worry about meta! Sure, there will be strategies that matter or ways to play the game better, but I should be able to pick up some cards and be just as good as someone else with a "power rating" similar to mine. I don't have to seek out overpriced older cards. Ideally, if they aren't reprinting, they're making new versions of cards that are similar to old cards. I shouldn't have to know Bonfire or Little Knight or anything else off the top of my head, I just go get more cards and incorporate them with whatever other ones I have. I don't have to wait for a reprint set or buy $100 cards on eBay. To me, that makes this more accessible to casual players. I think this game really undoes some of the current thinking on card games and will force players to just be good with the cards they have. Sure, over time they can introduce new effects or have some power creep, but the way the gameplay is structured, that won't really be that beneficial either. Then they can focus on the art and the collectability (serialized cards, old cards from previous sets, etc.). If you want to drop $10,000 on a first edition card like people do for Charizard, you can! But you don't *need* cards like that to be competitive.

  • @Heartkiller2014
    @Heartkiller2014Ай бұрын

    So I see you continuously whining about price on this. Why is reprinting BS? Because it ruins the collectible value on the card. There’s printable decks on the kickstarter and discord. The cards in the 401 card base set will be MASS printed until they’re not. Remember the infamous yugioh card “ASH BLOSSOM” that was going for $300 a pop at one time? Yu-Gi-Oh is volatile as crap. Because you’ll spend all this money to be competitive at it and then the $900 you spent for 3 copies of a card gets reprinted and boom, you’re out $600 afterwards. True Draco? Let’s ban the whole core card! They scrapped the NFTs but there’s chase cards for the whole base set that are called character proofs, that what you were looking at for sale originally, was the IP for the card in NFT form. The chase cards they have decided to go with now are 1/1. And if you pull it, you are now the intellectual property owner of that card and it’s name, likeness, etc. Out of the 13 or so MTG sets that Brian Tinsman worked on, he was the lead designer for 8 of them. The no reprints aren’t meant to make it unplayable, they’re meant to give you REAL value in your game. Like you said, yu-gi-oh sweats will pay $1000 for a tournament deck just for it to get nerfed in a month. Imagine investing in this game EARLY and having chase cards that will ALWAYS hold their value until a new set comes out with MAYBE JUST MAYBE a counter card? Instead of banning the competitive play of a card, let’s make cards that counter it to make it a little more fair. Brian designed this game to compete with Magic. Do you know who Brian Tinsman even is? He wrote a book, “The Game Inventors Guide Book.” He also worked for WOTC and MTG. His job? Test and play EVERY game that could compete with MTG and determine if it was a threat to them marketing wise. Who better to make a game that will compete with MTG? Seems like you didn’t dig very deep into this thing but allot changed since your video. No hate, just do your research.

    Lol, tell me you are totally clueless without telling me that. There is a serious business model behind this, telling people ‘it won’t work’ - then why the guy who did 8 mtg sets working on this ccg? Or ex Riot/LOL, MTG brand manager as well? Or why do people like me drop 5-6 figs on this, be it presale on kickstarter or buying early editions. I mean, you are bickering for 15 mins over catchy ad, but you are totally clueless about the topic and used a clickbait yourself to make investors and fans come here to watch this garbage.
