Wondering if a Recumbent Trike is for You?

When getting on/off, put the parking brake on so the trike doesn't roll. Makes it that bit easier.

Hello from Denmark: Thx for sharing the video Serafina. Wow! It is admirable-joyful sightseeing tour. Inspiring to see so many people together TRIKING!!! You do not see Trikes in Denmark, only bicycles. Last summer I shifted from my KOGA World Traveller bicycle to an ICE Sprint Full Suspension Trike, no EL assist. I just love it. As I am 5-6 months a year on the road, I have a ZIFLEX mono wheel trailer in tow for the camping gear. Looks that you are having a lot of fun, which is wonderful.... Keep on triking and enjoying the outdoor. 🙏

If you find a road bike uncomfortable and want comfort , you could get a touring bicycle which will have an upright riding position, steel frame and wider tires to make the ride comfortable. Send some heat over here 😃 I'll send you some of our cold!
Serafina, I came across your video about a month after you posted it and I enjoyed the trip very much. I'm in Denver, Colorado, USA and it is -2.2 degrees Celsius with a light mist falling which freezes as soon as it contacts the surface. Makes for interesting biking, driving or just walking. I have a fix for your "blow-out" that you had on the trike. You must use a higher pressure in your tires. You probably pinched the tube against the rim when you rode over a sharp bump. I also use a gel liner AND a hard plastic liner inside the tire between the tube and the tire. We have "Goat-head" thorns here along the trails and paths which the liner combination keeps from puncturing the tube. The Hard plastic deflects and the gel liner adds distance the thorn must travel before it can poke through the tube. Since I have used this method of protecting my tube, I have not had a flat or blow-out (3 years). I also recommend a head rest and a little more reclined position on your seat back (if it is adjustable). This will add distance to the position of the boom which will ease the pressure on your knees as you pedal. Just adjust the boom out a little. This will also lower the center of gravity on your set-up so you can corner faster. The goal is to lower the angle of your knee bend helping to keep a straighter knee. This is probably enough info for today. Be well and stay safe, bf

So I have arthritis in my hip. I'm wondering if I should go for a motor to avoid wear on the joints from pushing too hard or if that is not really an issue with trikes?
@CyclewithSerafina
Жыл бұрын
Hi Mark 😀 I spoke to Ray, this is what he said... "I would suggest go without a motor first, Motors can always be installed at a later time. Some of our riders have had two new hips. And riding is a blessing for them" I hope that helps 🥰
@Mark-oq9fl

@@CyclewithSerafina Thanks. In my case they are not willing to replace the hip yet - I've probably got 10 years to go. Let me know if that changes Ray's answer please.

Here's his response 😊 "If he has the money- motor is a lot of fun. If he wants exercise- not motor! My limited knowledge is that there is no impact on the joints , the only issue is if the pedals are to far away and you then over reach can throw your hip out. But that is an east fix, same if your pedals are to closer- cramped knees" If you're in or around Adelaide, Ray does test rides for free if you want to take one for a spin 😃

Just buying them is expensive- but you only do that once if you've researched well. Riding them is cheap. The rear tyre on my mtb would be worn out at 1500km, the rear on my magnum big wheel still looks new at 2800km. The fronts wear faster on tadpole trikes- I've just swapped sides with mine to use the other half of the tread ( magnums have a decent camber angle) so I expect I'll get a total of 5-6000km out of my fronts. I'll probably never have to replace the brake drums as I'm told drums are a lifetime of nearly no maintenance.

Great video, Serafina. Questions: Did the wind affect you much (like it does on an upright 2 wheeler)? Being so low do you feel like you're going way faster? What was your max speed? Lastly, do any club members ride on the roads that you've introduced us to? PS When shifting was being explained to you I was shouting, "what's so hard, they're just downtube shifters!" Then I sheepishly realized that you're so young you probably never had to use downtube shifters. 😳 You didn't miss much, brifters made me realize that downtube shifters are the spawn of satan!
@CyclewithSerafina
Жыл бұрын
Thanks John 😀 and good question! I hardly noticed the wind, I didn't think about it at the time but now you mention it, it doesn't seem to affect in the same way as an upright at all. My max speed was 32.6 km/h, but it can easily go faster, I was being a little cautious 😁 and yes. a few of them do ride on the roads I've shown in other videos, actually I'm keen to do another episode where we ride out on the regular roads (not bike path) and up some hills, and show what that is like riding in traffic etc...

Can you take the trike onto the trains in Australia? We can't here in the US which is why I want to get a touring bike here to make it easier to travel while touring. I love my HPV Gekko 26 and have done a 7 day 545 mile tour last year from SF to LA...not the quickest rider in the group but love that I can stop on a hill when tired, set the parking brake and rest before continuing. But it's the width of the trike plus the narrow or no shoulders here in the US that makes it dicey biking on the roads with traffic.
