Not only is the content of this video a great resource, but the description and times stamps should be a KZread standard. I don't watch these videos to get out of the Sun. I watch them to find out what I need to do to get "Back out into the Sun"! Thanks for saving me a bunch of time. GREAT WORK!!!
Yeah! Just like other people have said; comprehensive explanations of how to go through a mower, or any small gas motor. Thanks!! I have a 25 yr old murray, 4.5 hp briggs, left outside, rusty deck( still safe) but still runs great because of folks like you. Still starts with 1 pull. Gotta find a deck somewhere soon. Any how, my son says “ just get a new mower?!” I’m like, “ you kidding me! Fix something once, you get hooked! “ I’ll try to keep this thing running until it falls apart. Haha. Thanks again!
Of the 1000's of "Watch me act like I'm fixing this" videos, this one is by far the most comprehensive and in-depth one. Thanks

Now that's funny..
Over the past several years I've gained a lot of confidence repairing my own equipment / appliances. Having detailed information like you provided helps a lot and saves me money too. I appreciate it very much.
I know this is nine years later, but I must commend you on creating such a comprehensive mower repair video. Thank you!
Dude, this is by far the best lawnmower repair video in all of KZread. You pretty much troubleshooted every part of the machine and fixed it one by one. I just fixed my lawnmower myself yesterday (nothing big, just the carburetor) and it felt great, especially knowing that I saved myself $85 dollars from repair shop. I'm a do-it-yourself kind a guy and I love learning how to fix stuff. I sure did learn a lot from your video. Excellent job!
I never really understood timing until now. This is the best analysis video I have seen.
This is probably one of the best small engine repair videos on youtube.
Great to have a video that not only shows the How, but the Why and the trouble shooting Process. Thank You.
Dude, this was the best small engine repair video on KZread. That mower had every problem that could occur except for primer bulb replacement. I learned a lot from this video. Thank you for the upload!

Man, you are the best , thanks to you I found the problem with my Briggs Stratton engine, the key was broken and it was out of timming. Now it is working very well. Thanks
I have been looking for a KZread video that would help me fix my Briggs and Stratton mower. I've looked at a bunch but my friend you have the best repair video out there. Thanks for providing such detail and pauses for clarification. I was about to throw my mower in the trash because I had tried everything. But because of your video I decided to try something you suggested. No one I mean no one has a video about looking into a sheared key on the flywheel. When took it apart sure enough half of the key was in the flywheel and half was left on the shaft. Changed the key out and it started up like New. Hallelujah! Thank you very much and I have shared this video with numerous friends. Tremendous help.

Will Pritchett this, sir, makes my day. Glad it helped.
I was about to shell out money to fix my mower and now I know what to look for. Thanks a million.
The way you explain the small stuff is great for those of business who are just getting started on all this! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience!
As an engineer, I can say this: an excellent presentation or video. Well done. Thanks,
That was fantastic. Thank you so much for making this video. My boys have their own lawn care business and they need to keep knowing how to service their lawn mowers. They are only 13 and 11 years old but they are really good kids. This will really help them to make sure they diagnose and repair their mowers. Once again thank you so much for the in-depth coverage on how to.
Can't believe the haters who gave you a thumbs down. You may not be Cecile B. DeMille, but that is a well laid out, methodical video on repairing a trash picked mower. Kudos to you.
My Dude!!! Luck would have it I own the exact same mower and your little fix it guide will get me up and mowing in no time. Had to do some part number research but helpful doesn't scratch the surface of what this vid does. I appreciate you talking like, (and to) an adult not spending 5 minutes explaining the function of a screwdriver and the righty tighty rule. One more thing I KNEW IT!!! I bought mine used as well and thought it was odd there was no throttle cable, huh!!! It'll have one today I'll tell ya! THANK YOU!
Just getting into small engine repair, this video has helped a lot, thanks 👍.
got 2 machines that did not start tonight after pulling them out for the first time this season. It was just before dark, so did not do any trouble shooting, this guide is still the best around all these years later.
Granted I know all of these skills from cars... having such a well done small engine repair video is gold. This is beautiful.
thanks for the video...I knew nothing about mowers from this video I paid $10 for a lawn mower because they thought it was stuffed and I cleaned the carb, it blew smoke for 5 minutes now it works like new
Good good video! Well explained! No music! No extra talking! everything to the point! Thanks for your advices regards from Colorado!😀
What a great video! I just picked up a free 5.5 hp Craftsman mower and was able to fix the problem with a new spark plug. This spark plug cost only 2 dollars and now I have a mower in perfect condition! Thanks!
This is by far the best video I have found on how to fix the lawnmower. My mower had a timing problem. I followed all the steps here, now my mower works like new!!! Like I said, the most informative and helpful video!!!

Best repair video yet. I've watched countless videos on lawnmower repair and you're the first one to show me how to check/fix the timing. That'll be my next step. Thanks for the well explained video. Keep it up!
Excellent video. Touches all trouble spots on the mower systems in an easy to follow dialogue and fairly stable camera.
This is the most comprehensive no start video that I found. Well done.
This is the most awesome video for EVERY ONE to determine why your lawn mower isn't starting, isn't staying running or needs maintenance. The length is just about right, the info spoken during the video is extremely helpful and SPOT ON! Every lawn mower should come with this video!! Thanks, your video is directly responsible for my lawn mower starting this season! Will in Southampton, NJ
the description with the different times for different stuff in the video is awesome..i wish more people did this in there videos..thanks
I watched this video with great interest and , found that you did an excellent job of explanation and your trouble shooting was very clear and to the point. I just wish I could have lived near you and your family . I would have really enjoyed seeing you and picking your brains of every little detail. You are the real deal on lawn mowers. and you know your stuff. I'm 75 years old and can barely get around, I'm half blind, and have authorities so bad that I can hardly get around. In my early 20 's I just loved to tinker with small enginesI hope you continue your way in life doing what you like to do. Have a good one. By.
Nicely done. Very informative. I'm not so intimidated by my small engine mower anymore.

My dog perked up and glared at my phone with a really annoyed look while I was watching you sharpen the blade on your bench grinder. She made me turn the volume down!! Great video, tho. Guess I'll go get started. Thanks!!
this was the best tutorial I have ever seen. the teaching skills started from the very beginning of trouble shooting to the culmination of a major fix. Great ,just Great. thankyou
Appreciate the commentary as the engine was being checked for problems and the steps to fix the broken key way.
Good job! I have never been so informed about lawnmowers as I have by this thorough self help video. My wife was at my side watching as well and was also very impressed. Thank you so much.

Great video! Thank you very much! Just what I needed all in one video and very detailed and right to the point, no excessive chit chat! Loved it! Keep 'em coming!
That's a very nice lawnmower, it's a shame it was so poorly maintained. I am in the same boat, I just rescued my neighbor's old lawnmower she had abandoned in front of her house, I will get it fixed up and I thank you for your help.
Great video, you hit all the main points. One thing you might consider adding is a comment on engines that use the blade as a part of their timing system. I tried to start one of those without a blade once and nearly yanked my arm off! Great job.

Thanks for the laugh, I could only imagine how that must've looked. 😂
The best lawnmower troubleshoot video out there! That Craftsman mower had lots of issues from abuse and neglect. You expertly repaired every one. Thank you for a great instructional video!
Appreciate the patience and time doing this blog. Well narrated and addressed the different areas that potentially can cause your mower not to work. I will be looking at an area mentioned here about the timing on my own which I did not realize may be my problem. Thank you!
Great video and explaining yourself!! Also indexing the vid on the desc. is another excellent touch. Many people dont have the gift of being able to teach and explain themselves as well as u. Great vid man!!
Without question the best how-to video on KZread. Please do a how-to video on how to make how-to videos! Informative, understandable, and watchable start to finish. WELL DONE!
My lawnmower wouldnt start today, saw this video, and was able to fix it AND mow the lawn today... Excellent video and the best part is that my mower was EXACTLY the same as this one, so I was able to rip it apart really quick thanks to you... Nice job man!
I need a man like you in my life! I fixed my mower with the spark plug info you showed. Thanks!

This is the best repair video on KZread thank you so much. This was a complete study of everything i wanted to learn.
Great. I learnt a lot! Next job is to check the keyway!
This video got my mower running again. Thank you!!!
Really clear, concise, and complete! Now armed with enough to try and troubleshoot my chipper-shredder engine. Hope you rack up some ad revenue -- you deserve it.
I really learned a lot about the timing and how to replace the key way, thank you for showing the repair.
Fine job, very informative as well as detailed enough to show what you are actually doing. So many of the instructional videos tell you what their doing but don't show it. That mower rips through those weeds like nothing, not even slowing the motor. Great work!
One of the best edited, best narrated and most informative videos on the subject out there. Good job. Thanks!
You are are great teacher. Thanks for showing all the processes clearly and demonstrating how to use the tools correctly. Just what I wanted to see!
You are the man! My B&S engine stopped running the other day. It just stopped and wouldn't start. I couldn't figure out why. It had gas, spark and compression. After watching your video, I checked the key and sure enough it sheared off. Now to fix it. Thank you so much.
Thank you for this video. It is very through and detailed. I learned a lot watching this video. Gave me somethings to look in to on mine. I have a Troy-Bilt 34345 with B&S 6HP from 1998 it still runs and looks new. It stalled out on me while mowing and I think the ignition system is at fault. I am waiting for my parts to arrive to further troubleshoot. I just want to say thank you, I wish I found this years ago!
Love your full explanation of any and all issues that could be wrong...love the fact that you got into deep brush upon repair...a very real world situation...2 thumbs up if I could!!
you're my hero! only cut one finger broke three nails and scratched my leg...but it worked. got the darn thing to work.
I don't even own a lawnmower, let alone a lawn, and I still found this video to be awesome :)
Hey! Thanks for posting your video. I went through all your steps. Now, my mowers running. Something was in the carburetor. Thanks again.
What a great video, this was prefect in helping me study for my small engines test this week, so thanks for making it.
I've got to say. this is one of the most enjoyable videos out there.
What I do with my screws is put them back in the holes that they came out of after parts are removed. That way, you know where they are and what they go to. Awesome job on the video!

Nice video! Thanks for taking the time to record/post it. I feel like I could get any mower running after watching it.
Thank you so much for this video, I needed a detailed video and spent two days reading and browsing. This should be at the top of trouble shooting lawn mowers! The thing that really makes this video exceptional is "what could be wrong" when you are explaining things. Love it! Exactly the info I need and want!
I have watched a bunch of videos, your's was simple and easy to follow. I love to tinker and fix things. I have 2 mowers and 2 weed eaters to play with in the spring of 2021. Thanks again.
Good content, right to the point, good editing and good camera work. Thanks.
Thanks for the video, I have two riding mowers both have kohler engines both don't run. So I am tired of paying people and they still don't run. So I decided to teach myself small engine repair. Your tips are a great start, I've always needed the basics you shared today. Thanks again Kudos

+sparky smith Same here. I paid a repair shop $75 to fix my weed wacker. It worked twice then shut down again. So I decided to learn how to fix my own yard equipment.
Great video. I am glad you got it running, your weeds were out of control.
Great video had not checked keyway , Turned out that was exactly what was wrong guy gave me the more because he couldn’t get the mower to start ! Keyway was sheared and blade was severely twisted ! Thanks for the help!
This should be required viewing for anyone posting a "how to" video on youtube: No BS, no kids interrupting the video, no "um, um, um, um, um", he fast forwards through the tedious parts like taking out the screws and bolts. Clear, concise, to the point and quickly to the point. Furthermore, it is a complete diagnostic journey. I can't tell you how many "how to" videos i've seen where I shut them off 2 minutes in because they are unbearable and the poster spends 10 minutes explaining what could take 1 minute. To "familytime" send me your postal address and i'll mail you a T-handle for your tap as a thank you!

Looks simple what he did but really his explanations came across as concise because of his thorough knowledge and experience. You could have someone saying the same things who didn't have the experience but it wouldn't stick to the listeners brain and would seem unbearable.
There is a lot of information here. Very entertaining and well done on top of that!!
Amazing . Thank you so much 👍 I am 43, and I just learned a whole lot 😄
Excellent!! Thanks for not using annoying background music as most people do. Very helpful video..
Thanks, I have this same B & S engine. Running ethanol laced gasoline, even running with Sta-Bil all the time, I know I will be rehabbing the carb some day. I bought the carb rebuild parts, a lacking inline fuel filter ( clippings always manage to get into the tank ), extra replacement primer bulbs and a few other upgrade and maintenance parts from B & S online when the mower was new. LOL, 12th year and I am still waiting.
That was a course in small engine repair. Great job.
Great video. Clear, concise and to the point.
Nice job on video, covering a wide range of topics!
Hands down 1 of the best how to videos on youtube. 2 small oversights that I saw. There is a washer that goes inside the starter cup and it makes a difference on how it goes in. It has a small curve to it and it goes down. It locks the cup to the flywheel and won't spin when you tighten the nut. When securing the nut you showed the coil instead of the blade brake looking for the correct depth so to speak for the flywheel to seat on the shaft. The coil should never rub on the flywheel.. Thats it for me, from 1 wrencher to another, outstanding video and you set the bar very high 👍

Glad it was helpful. Have a great time gettin greasy!
Excellent attention to detail. Now let me tell you something. I love my electric lawn mower. Thing is great. It's as light as a kids plastic push toy. So you don't need no power assistance. I think even an old grandma could push it. No noisy engine. Just a sweet whirr. If I feel like stopping and doing something else-no problem. Just let go of the handle. To start just push the button and grab the handle. No struggling to start the thing EVER-NEVER-EVER. And the coolest thing of all is the smell. Nothing but sweet smelling grass smell. You really got to experience the way it smells. It makes you want to mow the lawn even more. The only fall back is the dang electric chord. It's easy to get a rhythm. Even when going around trees etc. You just work each section in squares. Go back and forth and don't go backwards. I had one many years ago but I made the mistake and sold it. Now I got one for $60 at flea market from friend. If I don't sell it, it will probably last the rest of my life.

When a briggs key is nicked even a small amount they will be out of time.... I used to use a large screwdriver under the edge of the flywheel and apply pressure against it upward push screwdriver downward then sharp tap on end of drive shaft will usually pop the flywheel off... be careful and don't beat the end of the shaft into a mushroom...get a new key where you buy your parts...a n original part key is soft to allow for shearing, to protect the engine... if you put in a steel key you defeat the purpose

Thanks . It was a great and informative video. Cant wait for spring!
Super amazing effort on this production. I've got an old high performance mower that I spent all day on, getting nowhere trying to start it. I treat all my equipment like gold. I didn't know about the "key" thing under the pull cord. Then I remember, I have loaned it out a couple of times. Maybe somebody hit something. I'm gonna check that tomorrow, and hopefully the "timing" thing is it. If not, thank you anyway. Very helpful and useful information presented so well.
