Womier SK65 Review: What's An ODM?

Ғылым және технология

LINKS BELOW! Today's keyboard, the Womier SK65, is a fascinating product in many ways, not the least of which is its striking similarity in appearance to another keyboard on the market, the Velocifire Lucky65... but how can this be? Did someone steal this design? Well no, this appears to be an ODM product, and in this video we give you the basics of how that whole thing works, as well as what the story (so far) is with this admittedly awesome pre-built keyboard!

Awesome video just subscribed. Thank you for breaking odms down I figured it kinda worked like that but not a lot of info on these budget boards usually.

I try my best to make sure my audience understands as much about these products as is reasonable within 10-12 min, tops. A more informed enthusiast provides better feedback, which can drive better products at all price points.

Did you notice an led out of place above the enter key?

That's the LED for an ISO enter, not strictly speaking out of place, but if you aren't using ISO enter, then you simply lack an LED for the pipe key. Not ideal if you're a Pudding or shine-through legends user, but most users of this board won't likely notice.

I would love an update on this for those of us that don't watch twitch, THOCCNOLOGY reviewed both boards and apparently there is a latency difference between them, but people on reddit are saying they are literally the same PCB

It's possible something about the specific firmware with the SK65 might be affecting the latency of the board but still be physically the aame PCB, but without being able to test it myself, I can't speak to it more directly. Had I both boards and the ability to properly test input latency, I'd also verify the findings.

My lucky65 was terrible. Literally top case couldn’t fit bottom end keycaps. I tried everything

OH WOW, that really blows, I'm sorry to hear that! I hope Velocifire was able to help you out with that, that seems like something that should have been caught in QC checks.

I wonder when this board will become available on shopee and aliexpress. Been seeing listings of the lucky65 already.

Those may be the listings Velocifire was talking about, but I can't be entirely certain. I only investigated the SK65 for the purposes of this content piece.

@@TheManicGeek Despite causing some confusion, knowing that both boards from the same ODM helps narrow down sound profile. Now I can just think of it as a lucky 65 with a knob and better latency. (According to THOCCnology's review.) Really makes it easier to decide between them.

@crankiermusic7436 interesting that the SK65 has better tested latency. I lack the tools to properly test that just yet, but perhaps some day!

@@TheManicGeek thank you!! just got this keyboard and I'm a huge fan of how it sounds right out of the box. I'm trying to find a replacement for the knob cause I want a few different color options
