Full coverage of the heats of the women's 400m event from the Olympic Stadium at the London 2012 Olympic Games.
Since 1896, athletics has been on the programme of each edition of the Games of the Olympiad. Its presence on the Games programme has allowed its popularity to increase across the world. This popularity was also strengthened by the creation of the IAAF in 1912. Women's events appeared for the first time at the 1928 Olympic Games in Amsterdam, while the men's programme was standardised as of the 1932 Games in Los Angeles. Although at the beginning women were authorised to participate in only some events, today their programme is almost identical to that of the men.

I am going to miss Dee Dee Trotter running professionally. Never had the best top end speed but she is one of the few consistent 400m runners throughout all phases of the race and has an amazing closing 200m. The closest thing to Dee Dee's 400m running style now is Polish runner Iga Baumgart.

And I beg to differ with you too. She is easily one of the best finishers in the current field of 400 women, especially afetr running 3 rounds! On paper, she should not have come close to a medal ... she was outstanding on the homestretch and few others are the same

Krivoshapka didn't learn anything from Richards in Beijing it's nearly impossible to run a 400m all out from gun to finish CLEAN the key is to stay as relaxed as possible, run a controlled first 200m and pick it up in the last 200m and bring it home hard

MrGreenelight what you say is true for a final, but this was the semis. She over exerted herself and had no energy left for the final. She didn't even medal. All you're trying to do in the heats and semis is qualify for the final, you do as little as possible so you will have fresher legs for the final.

You have to remember qualifying first gives you a better lane. Krivoshapka had the benefit of running in the final heat. She knew what bench mark time was needed to get a better lane than Montsho and Richards-Ross who were the hot favorites at the time and she achieved it. She should have adjusted her tactics for the final though once achieving the objective but that's another story.

  • @PePinmySteP

@@phoenixforce6595 The only mistake she made was in the 1st round where she obviously had enough to relax more. The semis, 3 of them ran under 50 so to win it she had to run fast anyways to be top 2 (Trotter and Wiliams Mills are no joke), to have a good lane like you said, and have a psychological advantage. The final, well...

Negative, krivoshapka used an excellent strategy. It does not matter if you ran your fastest at the beginning or the end of your races. It is the shortest "Total" elapsed time to cover the distance that wins.Regardless of when you ran your fastest lap. Did you see the look on the American and the Jamaicans face at the end of the race? They were totally shocked. Krivoshaka did not make a mistake, she was clever and she won. How is winning uninjured making a mistake?
