Wow! I am stunned by 1) the spectacular athletic performance of World Bronze Medalist Gudaf Tsegay and 2) the bias of the announcer. A historic performance was happening in front of his eyes and he couldn't let go of his predetermined narrative.

I love the story behind this race!!! A perfect illustration of limitless ability. 'Never limit your ability', from the otherwise advice of those who think they may know it all, and only - Sometimes, that very advice could actually hold you back from your true earth-shattering potential. Moral of the story, Never judge others - you may never fully understand their strategy. Well done Tsegay!! ... Oh, and for turning the ''novice' on that commentator too 🏆👏🏻

Beacuse Tsegay was strong enough to set world record after this pacing. A lot of runners in the world can take 800m in 2:06. The problem is to run constently, not using 29.2 for first 200m and then slow down to 34.4.

Th commentary on this race is condescending and insultive. He should have recognised that Muir was out of this race by the second lap and stopped trying to make her a hero. This was Tsegay 's race and we all saw it was going to be something special. "Tsegay is hurting"?!?!? she looked like she could have done another set! This kind of reporting belongs in the dark ages.

I have to agree that Tim Hutchings badly miscalled this race. But I think it's a stretch to attribute that to racism or neo-imperialism. Hutchings has always been lavish in his praise of the great African athletes, as he should be. Tsegay's supreme form in this race just seemed to catch him off guard. Maybe he just hadn't done his homework. And why hasn't WA fixed the timing software used in these broadcasts? It's been broken for some time now.

Why? The pacemaking was really awful. To inform all the people commenting about this who don't know anything about running.. She made the WR despite them. Pacemaking is about providing even splits. It's way harder when they go out way too fast forcing the runner to flood their muscles with lactate early and change paces a lot.

These commentators never learn. They laughed when Daniel Komen did 800m in 1.57 in his 3000m. The world record still stands - 25 years later. Even before this race, what made anyone think Laura was better than Tsegay? Her outdoors PB is better, and she beat her to win bronze in Doha. Laura just records A LOT of 3.57, 3.58, 3.59 but when they have to, 1500m powerhouses easily go below 3.55. Or use better tactics and win in a slower time but either way, Muir is always behind them.

He never shied away from racing anyone, he raced even when his management advised to slow down since he's racing too much. He had no inhibitions and feared no competitor. He had zero knowledge of splits (fast or slow ones). He just run. He could so he did. He's special, I'll give him that. When he started going no one would keep up with him. Why would an athlete THAT fast stop training because he 'feared' someone else? Someone who was beaten not once or twice? Guerrouj got his first Olympic title in 2004. Severally, he was beaten by athletes of less calibre than Komen. Komen just had no desire to be revered. I think he just didn't care.

Yes, she did break the indoor record in the end, but that was Tsegay's strength not the pace makers doing their job, it was terrible pace making.

Axumite kingdom was a civilized society in the early century even before America was found. But because of Axumite (Tigrian) exclusive behaviour and rigid mind, the power shifted to King Laliba (Zagew dynasty). After longer period of time, you ( Tigrian ) regain a dominant power of Ethiopia and had a chance to learn from previous mistakes. But you were so rigid and had unwilling character to share power to other Ethiopians. Progress never comes without change, and those who can’t change their minds can’t change anything. The price of success is determination to work hard and inclusive others. Compromise is a win-win strategy. You can’t win if you always say mine is mine. Never!!
