"Women in Combat" An Air Force Television News Special Edition - 1993

On April 28, 1993, former U.S. Secretary of Defense Les Aspin issued an order that allowed women to fly in combat, marking the first time women could qualify as operational and combat mission ready military fighter and bomber pilots. This decision also lifted the United States Armed Forces' Combat Exclusion Policy for aviation positions, which had prohibited women from serving in combat roles since 1948. The policy was lifted for all assignments in 2013.
This video is from The U.S. Air Force Television News, May 21, 1993. The program was produced soon after the announcement was made and gave details on the background and purpose of the policy change to serving Air Force Personnel.
