This lecture saved my iman, as a lot of the cultural practices had skewed my understanding of my deen, and that caused me to distance myself from it as I felt that a lot of rights and desires were being taken away if I followed my deen, but the truth of the matter is I wasn't following Islam, I was following my culture. I was ignorant. Dr. Rania inspired and motivated me to learn more and reconnect with my deen. Thank you, dr. Rania.

After growing up in the south asian community and observing the behaviour of well treated housewives, mistreated/abused housewives, wives with small businesses and women with careers... the pettiness is real with women who's whole life has revolved around serving in the home. When your world is narrowed down so is your headspace. I've seen a lot of arguments in couples over petty nonsense and the husband wonders why is she so neurotic?! It's because she exists in the same 4 walls around the same people everyday 🙂 it's enough to make anyone go mad so I expect it's her imaan that has kept her as sane as she is. No matter how gilded, a cage is a cage. Women were not created as prisoners, we are human beings with the same responsibility of serving Allah and the Prophet S said they are your partners and committed helpers, not houseslaves.

@@aishapatel9986 sister please read the history of the Prophet's Madina. Women were not kept in their houses to protect them. If muslim society is unsafe that women cannot work in broad daylight, then I think it has failed. What about female doctors, nurses, midwives, pharmacist, counsellors? Other jobs can be done at home but do you expect women to go to see a Male doctor? Have a man delivering babies? Keeping women in their houses doesn't work in the real world. Allah has commanded that women are kept safe, they wear hijab and don't interact beyond necessity with non mahrams. But men are commanded to control themselves, stay away from women beyond necessity and look after women. It is a balance.

This made me cry so much. Especially when Dr.Rania mentioned the pakistani statement of women only leaving their husbunds house in a burial shroud. Culture has made our beautiful deen so difficult on our women, and a as a young girl it makes you doubt and have complaints against Allah when all along there is nothing difficicult in our religion. The Quran advises men again and again to be kind and fair in regards to their affair with women and for a good reason because men have unfortunately forgotten their responsibiltity over women!

West placed women in workplace since 1960 and kicked feminist movement. Result is 70 percent single mothers, i.e fatherless homes, 60 percent divorces where 80 percent initiated by women. Marriages are on decline. Singlehiod and loneliness is on rise and birth rates are below 2.1, i.e replacement rate. This happened for first time in human history. Women happiness index is dropping since women so-called liberated since 1960, why? More educated, career-oriented, strong and independent woman, will have less kids, unhappy and cynical. That's why higher educate and higher women are mostly unmarried or divorced or having beta husband. This type of scholars are Western influenced and promoting family unit disitegration.

@@naturerules7176 Research shows that many unmarried and childless women are happier, so I don't know what your sources are but they aren't true. The reason there is a rise in divorce and decline in birthrates is because of the independence women gained (not having to stay in worthless shitty relationships with controlling men) and the economy. The reason women are getting divorced more and more is because they don't need men anymore, not the way they used to, which is for survival. You think women were happier then? Women were getting abused day and night. The reason higher educated women are less likely to be married, is because they understand themselves, and what they want. There is no such thing as a 'beta', the only people who use these kinds of terms are idiots like yourself. Why such things aren't happening in the middle east or anywhere else, isn't because women are necessarily happier, it's because there's such a stigma around it that women would rather stay in draining marriages than own the title 'divorced'. Less kids doesn't mean unhappy, education doesn't mean unmarried. Men just want less driven women so they can manipulate/ control them easier, younger ones too. @@naturerules7176 Stop blaming the West for the gross inequities that clearly exist in many of our Muslim communities, especially so called Islamic countries. I’m no feminist but clearly the women’s rights movement has made inroads so women have the ability and OPTION to work, vote, and take active roles in public life. And have you considered that perhaps higher divorced rates are due to many women today exercising greater rights and having the means to do so versus being in very difficult marriages and solely dependent on their husbands financially? Have you considered that in single households, it’s the women who are taking care of their kids and the absentee parent is the father? Have you considered it’s the work culture that needs to change so that women have the ability to take time off (ie when their children are young) or have part-time options so they can readily balance the two? Don’t assume women are all trying to climb the corporate ladder or putting careers above everything else - many desire marriage as well as the OPTION to earn an income and have a degree of independence that was never afforded to those generations before them. It’s systems in place (such as workplace culture and rigidly defined roles) that are causing a lot of the imbalance and need to adapt with changing times (just as remote work has now become a necessity).

Im so tired of how individuals who hear the same verses as we do and interpret it with the male gaze 😭 and actually how we were taught about them as young girls and either lived up to it or became lucky enough to see the big picture and be labeled as “radical”. SubhanAllah, this came timely although I personally feel there is beauty, comfort in staying at home, being somewhat 'hidden' especially for an (ultra) introvert. To add to that, I actually thrive both aa professional, students and wife at the comfort of my own space. I don't dismiss the other perspective of the Qur’an verses which Dr Rania have proposes because I did learn prior to this video that the particular Qur'an verses was often quoted out of context. On this note.. I would like to say, there are scholars of tafsir that have actually explained it differently because the Qur'an verses which is misquoted as 'stay at home is cut off in the middle, without continuing the verses till the stop ( waqaf ). The full ruling is actually stay in your homes and donnot display (tabarruj jahiliah) yourself like back in the days.. This is actually the Qur'an verse "Settle in your homes... and do not display yourselves as women did in the days of ˹pre-Islamic˺ ignorance..." The point to say, there was no ruling that state women are not allowed to go out, but it is don't go out wearing, looking like a jahiliah. And for this, I would argue that there is no ruling stating the prohibition of going out, but it is more on the manners of muamalah, or interaction with people including the Qur'an verses stating speak properly without softening your voice. Having said, that I don't think this ruling is specific for just Prophet Muhammad wives, because there are scholars who says following the Sunnah of the wives is better just like the Sunnah of the four companion, as they are the best of people. Allah knows best.

Thank you so much sister. My husband and even the Imam of our mosque misuses this verse to guilt women into staying at home. Sometimes to the extent of going to shops feels like a sin. I knew Islam is a logical way of life%religion and could not have wanted imprisonment of educators of the future generation.

Do anything as long pleases Allah. Even Khadijah ra after marriage stayed home. God gives women the choice to do anything as long their husbands are ok. Better to care for children and still serve society in many ways. Many dnt live in the extended family. Don't listen to something and then decide it going to work in your family. Every family has different dynamics. I always feel, talk about how can be done what you need and get support and at the same time have marital bliss. Many women listen to something like this and start to believe they're right. Heard this happening in many homes and sadly peace is gone. Always be mindful of your family dynamic when you want to make a change that is not the norm.

That is true but the thing is the husbands should be okay with the things we want to do. But they aren’t because of cultural beliefs and also weaponize the islamic beliefs they falsely interpret. That’s why talks like this are as important for men as they are for women.

Surely husbands can uphold their share in domestic labor and raising the children so women have more time to do other things. The real reason women are either out there and neglecting their homes or closed in is actually because homes are standing on one leg. Your kids being neglected should not be the cost of you having a job or participating in anything beyond your house and would not be if men knew better.

Khadija also went out to give the prophet peace be upon him food, climbing large mountains to get there. She packed food for him(saw). She also went to waraqah and took him herself. She still went outside but she did not WORK outside. It’s a balance. They say women should go AT ALL. Only for a purpose. What if she just wants to do an act of sadaqah. There is a Hadith of a women plucking dates, and someone scolded her. The prophet peace be upon him said ‘perhaps she may give some charity’ (something along those lines forgive me if I’m wrong). Also one of the later wives of the prophet (I believe was safiyaa) went out to visit the prophet, and the only sole reason was to visit him in the masjid. And he gave her company when she did and even walked her away from the masjid when/while spending time with her. So it should be a balance. Yes husband has to provide. But let the wife go out!! For whatever reason. If she is doing something that’s not haram, what’s the reason for stopping her? If she can fulfill her wife duties and family duties, why stop her? Tell her she must stay home. Even tho some say that verse is only for the wives of the prophet, they STILL went out, even if it was a little. I don’t get what people mean when they say stay home. Because technically they can still go out. She can’t go out for haram but neither can the man

Assalamu alikum. I don't know if the speakers are relayed the questions from the chat but I would really like to ask Dr. Raina if it was it a common practice in Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) time for women to never get married for whatever reason. She said statements like "if the women is blessed with marriage" twice which really sparked my curiosity. By the laws of shari'ah as well, does a Muslim woman have an option of never marrying or is it a displeasing act in the sight of Allah SubhanaWaTa'aala? May Allah bless her and you all.

You must realize that there are women out there who may want to get married, but aren't for whatever reason. Finding a suitable spouse is not that easy. It's not like going to the grocery store and buy a loaf of bread.

you have to understand that not getting married will require you to have financial freedom until your passing and not only that but u require to have some kind of protection until your passing. this is something you have to also think about because one who get old age then you are on your own in this world (except with allah of course) how will you support yourself and protect yourself when you are at your weakest? i what assume this is why it is highly rewarding and recommended for both men and woman to get married. it is not just a matter of financial stability but also mental stability
