I'm at a loss that people were judging this family for not keeping him. They fed him, took him to a vet & loved him until they could find him a forever home. That family is AWESOME! & I really wish more people would be like them in regards to stray animals.

Exactly and she specifically said that he didn't get along with her other pets. Why on earth would someone keep a stray pet that didn't get along with the current pets?

@@mikeh2129 Learn from my mistakes: Vet fees. My cat insurance is £65 per month. I can't really afford it - but I've only one pet to be responsible for, so I manage to pay it. Most pet insurers won't pay out for Dental work. Especially for elderly cats. Best part of a grand spent a couple of years ago for teeth removal / cleaning. Insurers would not pay out. My mother bailed me out financially. My point is, even if the dog in this clip _did_ get along with the other pets - the cost of caring for him throughout his lifetime was probably prohibitive. The kindest thing to do was to home him with somebody who could afford to keep him. The lady in this clip did the right thing, a thousand percent.

Anatolian shepherd must be one of the most underrated dog breeds, they are really smart and just love people. They want to have a home and protect their family, it is literally coded into their genes. However it is true that they don't get along well with other pets and animals because of this because they see them as dangerous against their family. But you could train them to accept those pets as a part of family as well without much trouble. The most important thing with Anatolian shepherds and similar breeds you must make them understand you are the leader of herd not them then they wouldn't attack anything at all unless they are provoked badly..

You should contact the owner. A dog that young will out live it's current owner. After a death, most family members just stake a big dog like that to the city run kill shelter and let them deal with it. You know how that goes? He shows any form of aggression to the plastic hand, he's quickly destroyed. Oh and yes, the city still uses the "plastic hand" to determine aggression.

Exactly this is something I'd love to do, which is why I dream of living more rurally means I am not limited on what I can rescue by what the neighbours are willing to put up with and sadly a lot of rehoming sites and shelters get so full round holidays it's horrible that a lot of people can't respect and take on the responsibility they chose to bring into their home leading to shelters filling up, taking on animal they normally wouldn't deal with and animals popping up on streets, so I'd love to rescue and foster animals and anyone I keep could potentially depending on their attitude help me determine a good home for animals, like would they ever have the chance to get along with other dogs, other cats or other animals. Do they like big open spaces or prefer to be a couch potato. All things that are bonuses of me loving a variety of different animals, and any confident ones would be very helpful for other animals or really motherly animals can often benefits from raising smaller things like silkie chickens, some dogs or cats can be very motherly.

I agree. A dog like this needs about two hours of exercise per day. He seems to have a great temperament- it would be a real shame if he didn't get enough exercise and it led to weird behavioral issues. That happens a lot with powerful dogs who don't have an adequate outlet for their pent up energy.

It's a shame she feels the need to apologise for not keeping him. (I can only imagine the judgy online grief she got in thanks for her good deed). She did more for that dog than most people would, and the people spewing online. Even her neighbours didn't do much, they said he'd visited them too, they shut the door and carried on their day. They didn't take him in for a month, take him the vet, or find him a home. Plus she didnt make a stupid decision to keep him, so her existing pets would be miserable, and life difficult. This lady did all she could, the dog is safe and happy, and I salute her.

Exactly. People forget to realize the responsibility of taking care of a pet. It's not just cuddles and petting; you need to feed them, monthly/yearly vet visits, any medication they might need, daily walks and exercise, grooming, also training if the dog needs behavior corrected. And on top of this, most people work and have other responsibilities outside of home. I have one dog and I could NEVER imagine getting another dog to take care of. This lady already had TWO dogs so it's more than reasonable for her to give him to someone else.

  • @Spike-ck5tj

@@Mar-pe9kx I agree. I did have 2 dogs until October. My elderly one sadly passed away. I worked out some years ago I spent more money monthly/annually on the dogs than any other regular bill. Don't get me wrong I was happy to. I chose to have them, so I also chose to look after them. You shouldn't get any pet on an emotional whim. It's a commitment in time and money and if you're short of either, you are short changing the animal and being selfish keeping it.... and keeping it from a happy life with someone else. This lady made the right choices for her and the dog. She did a great job.👍

Why do people always assume that lost dogs don't already have a home? Are non dog owners completely unaware that running away and ending up at a neighbors house or elsewhere is normal and frequent behavior? All people on the internet care about is that they have a chance to look like a virtuous hero when they're only stealing a dog from their original home.

She was microchipped but nobody ever came forward. I searched everywhere, employed a tracker dog service, used posters with rewards, appeals on radio, local newspapers, vet practices and via Facebook, I even used psychics. I've never got over it and remain heartbroken 12 years later. Interestingly, all the psychics independently said that man with a small dog found her and took her home. I just pray she was loved and cared for. I still feel crippling grief and guilt even writing this. It also really hurts to think of anyone assuming that she had been dumped when she was so very precious, as all dogs are 🦋

@@clevername8832 It’s not “looking like a virtuous hero” and it’s not stealing a dog. If “running away and ending up at a neighbors house or elsewhere is normal” as you say, then that makes it even more important for a responsible dog owner to make sure their per has either a collar or a microchip - preferably both. A dog without either is a sign of neglect at worst and indifference to the dog’s safety at best. I have no idea how you can say that is “stealing” someone’s dog when there is literally no way to return it to the person who was responsible for losing it. The person who finds the dog shouldn’t be judged for the laziness of the dog’s owner. This should be obvious to any responsible pet lover.

You did the responsible thing and microchipped your pet, so I understand and appreciate how devastating that must have been for you. But the woman in this video did everything right. Took him to the vet to be scanned for a chip and posted it all over social media trying to find his owner. She was not trying “to look like a virtuous hero” and “stealing” a dog. What else was she supposed to do? Just let the dog wander around every day and risk it getting hit by a car or possibly attacking someone else’s pet in their own yard? What happened to your pet is tragic, but it’s a totally different scenario than what happened in this case.

He was gentle to our young sons, babies, other pets, and puppies and kittens, and fit right in with our pets. He knew the difference between playing rough and someone who is a threat and he would protect his family like a Grizzly Bear protects her cubs. There is a reason why animals just show up at your doorstep and don't leave. They are God sent for a purpose. a few years after he came to claim our house as his, my husband left the boys and me. I don't know how I would have made it through the first few years of my life after the divorce had it not been for Nick to lean on and protect us.

She also said it was a “little old lady” and that this dog was 1-2 years old. That means she placed it in a home where the owner is highly likely to pass before the dog and then the dog will go through the trauma of being homeless again.

One day when I got home from work and was unlocking our front door I heard 3 dogs barking from inside our house- instead of just the 2 we actually owned. I’d been gone for 6 hours and my husband was out of state at the time. We had a fenced back yard and a doggy door. When I went inside there was a mysterious Jack Russell. He’d found a way to crawl under our fence and join our family. He’d facilitated his own introduction to our dogs all by himself & had clearly passed their tests to be a part of the family. I asked around our cul de sac, found the owners, took him home. He kept coming back, I scoped the fence line but I couldn’t figure out how he was getting in. We did this dance with him for about 5 months. When it was winter I’d wake up at 3 am to him jumping on my bed and wiggling his cold little body under the sheets to warm up. Eventually my husband went to the owners and asked if we could just keep him. They’d had a baby and Duke (the dog) had lost his place on the totem pole. So Duke became ours. He was always meant to be ours, he just knew it before we did. ❤️

@@debbiebrumfield1007 thank you! He was a really good boy. He even brought a gift that first day- when I opened the door there was a fairly long garden snake. I had my two dogs doing the happy dance, Duke, who was doing the “please-accept-me-I’m-a-good boy” wiggle and then the snake. Thankfully it was unharmed and I managed to nudge it out the door quickly. The first few minutes were crazy fun. Our dogs never brought in anything like that, so I’m sure it was Duke. 🐍😊

@@gin3314 I’m sure I could find some. I recently moved and cleared out a storage unit so am still working my way through stuff. Our first dog as a couple was from a box of 4 week old puppies in front of a grocery store- I walked in and bought a big bag of puppy food. She was a tiny little beagle /lab mix and we named her Trial, cause my husband joked that she was on a trial basis. The second one I found on the highway in rural Alaska- 20 miles in either direction to humans and it was February. So it was brutally cold w/ no water available. The snow wasn’t soft fluffy snow, it had a hard top shell. I saw 2 cars a mile ahead of me tap their brakes, slow down then speed up. They were so far ahead of me, I assumed it was a moose. When I finally got close enough to see my heart just broke, he was just walking along so slowly with his head down. Didn’t even barely glance at me. I couldn’t leave him out there. Opening the car door and inviting him in was one of the best decisions of my entire life. He was a big dog, so while he settled in we’d say oh the big dog wants out or big dog wants in … eventually that became his name. Duke came much later, but still while Big Dog & Trial were young enough for the three of them to bond. I’m seriously going to be looking for pictures cause now I want to see them again, so much. I don’t think people should ever have to go in search of a special pet… they find you when the time is right, whether it’s God or the universe- I’ve never been steered wrong, not one time. The best pets I’ve ever had are the ones I didn’t know I was going have the morning I woke up. Hands down. ❤️

I second this! I stopped at a shelter to volunteer my time and get some puppy/dog love and ended up falling in love with this precious little 4 pound puppy that had been abandoned on a rural road. I put my application in that same day. The rescue told me not to get my hopes up because 4 other people had already applied for her. On my way home, I got her a collar, leash, bed & toys. A week later I got a call saying she was "mine if I still wanted her." Are you fu*king kidding?!? Of course I "still" want her!!! That was 10 years ago. She's by my side as I type this. Sweetest doggo I've ever met and best $40 I've ever spent. 🥰 🐾

Yeah, he certainly appeared to have claimed that home, he also appeared to be used to sitting on furniture & doing tricks as well...which makes me wonder if he hadn't escaped someone's vehicle or home. My dog is an escape artist & he can open any type of door handle too, from letting his companions & himself out of indoor kennels & outdoor kennel/play yards, to opening car doors from the inside & letting his companion & himself out, or opening the door from the outside & letting his friends out of the vehicle, to letting himself in or out of different houses, garages, a 5th wheel...we have to make sure house & 5th wheel doors are locked, kennels & play yards have padlocks, car doors have lock on window, child lock on door & that his leash is secured to seatbelt; he's even chewed his way out of halters, collars, leashes, dog runs, & if he couldn't open the outdoor play yard door because of padlock, he climbed up the cyclone fence, pushed his way through the roof of the outdoor kennel/play yard, pulled the cyclone wires apart at the base, dug beneath it & actually pulled his fat little pug companion out. We couldn't keep him off the furniture, so we got him an old used leather armchair, put a big fluffy blanket on it, so that he wouldn't tear up the leather & that's his designated location...other than his bed. He needs structure & a set routine or he gets himself into trouble & everything needs to be dog-proofed. It's like having a child & he's just as intelligent & devious..he understands everything that is said & watches every move, so nummies need to be placed high where he can't open doors & cupboards to help himself. No one believed me when I told them that he understands everything that they say, never forgets a face, even if he met them only once, can recognize the vehicles of different people, can recognize where he's going in the car & can open doors... until they witnessed it for themself.

Wow beautiful Dogs !, sad how people abandon their pets , they are family I could never do that ! 5 k that is a lot ! We really do not need anymore babies born in this world , our world has an over abundance of pets now that are homeless, living in woods, streets, trying to survive in freezing cold !, it’s not fair to them , every time another breeder or family has another litter, that’s a lot of Pets out their dying m we have enough Pets in the Shelters across the world looking for forever homes, literally dying minute by minute , Adopt a dog from a shelter, or save a stray ! People need to go to jail for these crimes and we need to pass along To GET THEIR PETS FIXED! China just killed 10k stray dogs last year for food ! , that’s not including other countries and that’s not including cats , they stack them a squash them like trash before a very painful death! They tape puppies mouths and bind their feet before slaughter . Let’s not support this by buying dogs or having litters ! Ty God Bless 🙏🏾♥️

I work in retail outside the door someone left a dog a Jackshund, a mix between a jack Russell and a Dachshund, so I took it to the nearest vet snd found out it wasn't chipped and no one reported it missing, so I went around to 5 other vets and they all gave me the same answer. I assumed it was a old person's dog because it wasn't chipped but it had a £40 collar, it had some sort of cologne or it was it shampoo smelled nice plus it was well looked after, and all it wanted was to sit on my lap. Eventually I found out after putting up posters that it belonged to an old couple who both died together, and their child was in hardship so couldn't look after it and also it was 8 years old and they live roughly for 12-15 years I had it for another 6 years.

It's a bummer and sad when stray dogs just appear. I know of another dog years ago that was found on the streets. She was a puppy. Got to the animal shelter and no one came forward to claim her. So then my friends adopted her. She is the sweetest dog! They were surprised no one claimed her actually. Also- Similar incident happened to me in regards to finding a dog. In 2020 I was walking 2 dogs and found a dog roaming alone. Managed to get the dog & walk it to my car. I started trying to think who could possibly own him. The shelter took him in and he wasn't chipped. No one claimed him so they put him up for adoption. The shelter said he was originally scared of men, not confident, sometimes good with dogs & didn't like cats. I paid the adoption fee to get him a good home. The shelter worked with him- started training him....getting him more confident. Someone adopted him. He is in a great home. I kinda wondered though- who dumped him on the streets and why??

I go out and do things..I have young friends and older friends.some in Thier mid 70's...and the older ones actually have more energy and vitality than the 45 yr olds Don't assume she sits in a rocker with an afghan on her lap all day ..

I cried when i couldn't keep a stray that found us. She looked like my dream dog! We already had a dog and a full house of people and couldn't afford her. We took her to a pet rescue and one of the men who worked there immediately adopted her after the official 5 day waiting period was over. So, I felt better about what we had to do, but I still think about her often, especially now that my dog has passed away.💔😔🐾❤️
