90 days for killing a woman by running her over in your SUV!? Wow! There's nothing that can justify this pathetic punishment. She was either impaired, or distracted, either way she killed a person. That license to drive is a covenant the driver makes with society that they will take driving seriously, recognizing that there is potential for great harm, even if it's not intended. This woman broke that deal. And got 90 days, WTactualF!?

@@fozzir If you are talking about the center bike lane on Valencia, urbanist advocates are calling for it's removal, claiming it has cut the ridership on that street to less than half. I've never ridden on a center bike lane, but it does not seem like a pleasant experience. As far as businesses go, they always complain when car traffic is curtailed, even when it results in increased business. They are just so programmed to think their customers need to be able to park right outside the door. From what I read, Q3 economic numbers should be out in mid-January.

Disagree. We don't need e-bikes on the streets. They aren't safe for the children I see who stack 3-4 individuals on them at once (while riding near highway entrances and busy intersections), or for mothers towing newborns on back. San Diego's streets are congested as is. The highways we have in place do not support the ever-expanding population, so people take back streets through residential neighborhoods to bypass freeway traffic, and then they get back on at a less congested point. Instead of spending millions for pointless bike lanes, we need to improve our network of roads and highways. Common sense also needs to become more common for bicyclists who I've seen violate laws daily, just as humans in cars do. Humans on bikes are no more/less intelligent than humans in cars. Everyone needs to follow the rules.

no details on what actually happened. typical. gonna guess that the e bike was in a grey area of travel. e bikes a horrible inevitable invention. they all break every traffic law in the book, everyday. and with a baby? i have ridden one of these and they are super fun, super dangerous. easily lose track of the dangers and the altered sense of pecking order in traffic, especially compared to riding a pedalled bike.... every single day riders are zooming through crosswalks where people are supposed to....i dont know...walk?...remember when it was mandatory to WALK your bike in a crosswalk? out the window now...saw a woman get t-boned as she sped her road bike in the crosswalk against a light. would testified against her but magically her lawyer never called me, but the cars' lawyer did... every single day riders are zooming against traffic going the wrong way. every single day riders zooming the wrong way down a one way street. cars are now trained to have to look in all directions for these people who are constantly breaking traffic laws, like making sure someone isnt coming the wrong way down a one way street, or splitting lanes while im stuck in traffic. ive been clipped by one of these walking out of a store doorway on the sidewalk, you have to look both ways now like its a STREET......didnt have to do this before the electric bikes came on the scene. every single day encountering this nonsense. not blaming the e biker here because i dont know the facts, because they dont like to inform, only inflame. but its a safe guess that if she was pedalling a real bike, this would not have happened, her traffic pattern would have been different. safer guess the car driver was on her phone. but these are motorcycles operating with no rules whatsoever - sidewalks, walking paths, wrong ways, running stop signs/lights, splitting lanes, kicking cars etc etc etc - the whole gamut. treat it like a motorcycle and you'll be ok.

Bike trails are a huge waste of taxpayer money and are dangerous as hell. Why would anyone take their child out on the street where cars are driving- there are drunks, stupid teenagers, people on cell phones, criminals running from police etc. There are hundreds of parks where you can ride safely.

@@Steven-hq3go My post is a reflection on bike trails and bicyclists in general. Whatever the facts of this case, no responsible parent would take their child out on a busy street. 10-1 says if you asked that same woman to put her finest china in a bicycle basket and ride it down the street, she would say you're crazy- it might all get broken.
